arrested by police is set to face a judge today. a grisly scene in dorchester after a 48-year-old woman was found overnight along columbia road near 93 and appeared to street. drunk or something happened. i don't know. >> reporter: boston police and state police would determine that victim had been walking with her 56-year-old husband in chinatown around 2:00 this morning when they were mowed down by a driver who never stopped. the man who was seriously injured was found near kneeland street and harrison avenue while the woman was dragged by the car that hit her from chinatown to dorchester. traveling along 93 south nearly three miles before took her into custody. 45-year-old xiao ying zhou of sandwich was arrested by police early this morning and charged with two counts of leaving the scene of an accident with personal injury. investigators telling us they are looking into whether or

debates and speeches along the campaign trail. now it is up to the voters to decide which candidates will move forward. >> sarah: bernie sanders and hillary clinton are in a dead-heat. donald trump and ted cruz are locked in a tight race. diane gallagher joins us live with the latest. >> reporter: you know, this is something the iowans take very seriously. they even went to caucus classes, some of them, to make sure they do this the right way. now the candidates make last-ditch efforts so they can try to convince them to vote for them tonight. take a look at this. we will give you a live look at a donald trump rally in waterloo iowa happening right now. this is one of many happening across the state. those candidates are trying to convince iowans to come out and caucus for them. they have spent millions of dollars trying to get these votes. now it is go time. for the first time in the 2016

and who goes. up to now, donors, polls and party members have had the most influence in who remains a viable candidate. the road to the white house begins in iowa. history shows that since the 1970's, less than a third of republicans and less than half of democrats who won here have gone on to win the party nomination the most recent poll average in iowa shows donald trump holding a lead over ted cruz. political analysts say a trump victory comes down to turnout. >> turnout is important. it will tell us something about whether he has changed the electorate. i mean, that is the real prospect. can he bring out new voters who haven't voted before? >> reporter: turnout will also be key for bernie sanders who is in a virtual dead-heat with hillary clinton. >> bernie sanders is relike on some notably unreliable voting blocks. to come out. before. maybe don't have an attachment to the democratic party to come out and vote for him.

polls puts clinton three points ahead of sanders among iowa voters. with martin o'malley far behind. now, o'malley says that he believes he is going to outperform what the polling says. but even if he does finish in a distant third, he is not dropping out. that may not be the case for others, though. a poor showing in iowa could have a rick santorum or mike huckabee dropping out. >> sarah: after itwarx race turns east towards new hampshire. we are keeping up to date on the latest poll numbers and what the candidates are up to. political editor andy hiller with exclues i poll numbers this afternoon. hey, andy. >> reporter: hello. i'm in our new hampshire headquarters with dr. joshua dick from umass-lowell who is conducting our exclusive tracking poll. and the poll shows exactly where the candidates stand here right now.

bernie sanders and donald trump are in front. the donald looks headed for a win here with 38%. he is far ahead of ted cruz who is in second with 12%. then there is a clump of candidates. ohio governor john kasich and former florida governor jeb bush get 9% each. florida senator marco rubio gets 8%. the rest of the republican field? new jersey governor chris christie, 7%. dr. ben carson and kentucky senator rand paul 3% apeechlts and carly fiorina, 2%. only 8% are undecided. here is how it looks as we begin our tracking. trump well in front. then a pack chasing second and third place. remember, whatever impact iowa will have on new hampshire can't be measured yet. dr. josh, it looks like trump can't lose here. >> yeah. it is going to be hard for anyone to catch trump. he is doing well among men and those with lower levels of education, but the key to this race is his stability. trump voters are trump voters.

stay with 7 news on air and on-line for coverage of the iowa caucuses. look for dan hausle's live reports throughout the day today. >> christa: now, in roxbury, a three-year-old child rushed to injuries. police are trying to figure out exactly what happened. let's head out to the home and victoria warren is there with details for us. vicky? >> reporter: christa, the last update we have is that this child was rushed to the condition. boston police officers have been inside of this home all night long and all morning long. i just spoke with a neighbor. she has seen the family with the three-year-old here before. she has never seen police called to this address before. at this point, police are focusing their attention on what may have happened inside this home. boston police in and out of this roxbury home on alpine street after a child is rushed to the hospital. the three-year-old toddler, a trauma victim. police were called here sunday night. the report was for a child not breathing.

raced the toddler to boston medical center. that was around 10:00. police will search the home and homicide detectives were called out. boston police say that's common in an investigation with unusual circumstances. a man leaving the home wouldn't say which floor police are focusing on, but he did say he has no idea what is going on with the investigation. boston police have not released any new information on this investigation since last night. we did reach out to the district attorney's office. at this point, they say they have no comment because no one is yet facing any criminal charges. live in roxbury, victoria warren, 7 news. >> christa: this just in: mashpee public schoolkids getting a day off today after receiving a bomb threat. both the middle and high today. and students were dismissed. police and fire officials are at the school. they are investigating. three weeks ago, mashpee received a similar threat and

>> sarah: more news today: a facebook post stirring up controversy this afternoon. now a weymouth firefighter under fire. nicole oliverio live in weymouth this afternoon with a look at who investigators are zeroing in on. nicole? >> reporter: well, really it's town leaders. they say it is too early to say whether or not this post will change this firefighter's job status. a weymouth firefighter critical of a life-saving drug pooes his thoughts on facebook. on his personal page, the firefighter called narcan the worst drug ever created. the post read in part, "i get no extra money for giving narcan and these losers are out of the hospital and using again in hours. you use, you should lose." narcan revives people who have overdosed on heroin. the facebook account has been deleted since. enough people saw it and now this firefighter is under fire

the weymouth fire department released a statement that said, "the department has been made media. reflect the philosophy or values we hold as a fire department or town." some people believe the comments are in poor taste but perhaps the firefighter was just venting. >> i don't think it's right. but kids get high because they know they are car rig them. >> i would imagine everyone things. it is a good drug to be out problem. >> i think he made a big venting. you know? because i'm sure if he had to use one, he would use it. you know? on somebody. he wouldn't let anyone die. >> reporter: the mayor's office says it received a lot of angry e-mails over the weekend after this post was seen by many people. not just here on the south shore but across the country.

upper 20's to lower 30's by daybreak tomorrow. it is a cooler day overall. will punxsutawney see his shadow tomorrow? looks likely across the commonwealth there. that means six more weeks of winter. as a meteorologist, i have to say, we are not done with winter yet. not ready to stick a fork in it. it does turn colder next week. now over to danielle. >> danielle: thanks, chris. yeah. you saw the damage that this storm did in southern california. stretching up into the upper midwest. bringing a lot of rain and snow to parts of the country. it is going to continue to strengthen and move northeast as we head into tonight and into tomorrow. it is going the bring dangerous blizzard conditions to much of the plains up into parts of denver and minneapolis. and the next two days, this is how much snow a lot of the areas are expecting. up to a foot of snow in minnesota. and in iowa. 12-18 inches of snow in nebraska and in kansas.

this we are going to see some rain from the system. also for tomorrow, the threat for severe weather stretching from the gulf coast all the way up to the great lakes. this is where the greatest risk is. and the areas of orange. you could see some tornadoes tomorrow. for the effects this storm system will have on us, chris, back to you. driz track of the area of low pressure is also moving to the west of us. along the front, we will get a lot of moisture. tropical moisture, at that. a mild storm for us. temperatures well into the 50's on wednesday. heaviest rain and wind arriving in the afternoon. looks like many locations pick up a quick inch, inch and a half of rain. could see winds gusting to about 40 miles an hour out there on wednesday afternoon. into wednesday evening. flip side of the storm: thursday, drying out. a lot of clouds around. there is going to be another storm just offshore thursday into friday. going to keep it dry for now. more seasonal in terms of temperatures as we end the week.
