some controversial comments he made on-line about saving the lives of drug addicts. the fire fighter was investigated for writing a post on-line which denounced the use of the drug narcan, which can reverse the effects of an over overdose. the firearm's facebook post said "i for one get no extra money for giving narcan and these los losers are out of the hospital and use again in hours. you use, you should lose." he called narcan one of the worst drugs ever created. weymouth's play i don't remember said he is disappointed in this employee. with the position that you hold in this case someone whose job is related to saving lives there are some boundaries that you have to abide by on those comments. not only from a common sense standpoint. >> anchor: such a struggle.
5:01 pm

5:03 pm
to throw a tomato knock the crap out of them, would you? seriously. i promise you i will pay for the legal fees. i promise. >> reporter: senator ted cruz still predicting he will beat trump calling on conservatives to rally around him and send the reality star packing "the time for the media circus has passed. this is now our time. >> reporter: senator marco rubio said he is hoping to surprise tonight but insists he is in it for the long hall no matter what . i was in portsmouth the first step in the long process but ear respective of what happens this campaign will continue. that. i need you. i feel really good about all of . >> reporter: hilary clinton stops by her des moines campaign headquarters to thank staffers and urge them to bring the caucus voters home . thanks, everybody. i know we have to get back to work. thank you. >> reporter: senator bernie

and supporters among them an actor who to mcgovern as a nine nine-year-old and thinks hillary isn't progressive enough . when he was a young activist marching with martin luther king junior she was campaigning for barry gold water water. as far as i'm concerned she has never been a person of the left. >> reporter: sanders brags he has run this race without running negative ads . i think not doing ugly, negative ads is the right thing to do and you know what i think it's good politics. thank you all very much. >> reporter: as you might notice here the weather is very nice. that changed the storm is a few hours away and shouldn't affect caucus goers but it may affect candidates trying to get out of town and those of us who follow them. live in de, dan hausle, 7 news . >> anchor: so dan just a really big night, people are very curious about these results but they don't start caucuses into the evening and with the time change can you talk about whenny we might expect to see some results?
5:05 pm
local time, 8:00 your time and some of these processes democratic side in particular involve gathering in different parts of the room. the republican, those might come in kind of quickly because they just cast votes and there is a new app so we might have a trickle in of some of the early votes particularly republican maybe at about 8:15 or so but realistically you are looking at 9:00 or more before we see any significant results and if any of these races are close you will have to wit a lot longer to see where the differences lie. dan hausle reporting live from iowa. we'll be reporting all night for sure. adam? >> anchor: new hampshire as we mentioned will be stepping into the spotlight after iowa. the first in the nation primary just a little more than a week away now and the race there is tight. every day leading up to the primary we will be bringing you the latest results of our exclusive poll so let's begin right now. our exclusive 7 news umass lowell tracking poll shows exactly where the candidates stand in the granite state. so donald trump leads with 38%
5:06 pm
he is far ahead of ted who is in second with 12% clump of candidates, ohio governor john kasich and former florida governor jeb bush get fine each in florida senator marco rubio gets 8% here. the rest of the republican field well new jersey governor chris christie 7%, dr. ben carson and kentucky senator rand paul three appease and carly fiorina 2%, one more key number only 8% are undecided. for the democrats it's neighboring senator bernie sand sanders with 61% up in new hampshire. he is more than dowling hillary clinton's 30% right now. former maryland governor martin o'malley barely registers with 1 1% and our 7's political analyst andy hiller is digging deeper into the numbers and live in manchester for us right now. andy? think about donald trump for a moment. now think about bernie sanders. does a democratic socialist from brooklyn have anything in common billionaire?
5:07 pm
their personal histories and political policies couldn't be farther apart. but their appeal has a startling similarity. both have significant support among voters who don't trust the federal government to do what's right. in the republican race, trump leads ted cruz his closest rival 53 to 11%. a huge margin among voters who distrust the government in washington, d.c. and on the democratic side, bernie sanders has an even bigger edge. 69 to 21% over hilary clnton. normally, when we look at voters in these elections we look at how liberal or conservative they are but that's not what is going on here. what we're looking at is trust overtaking how people think about their vote. that's what is drying sanders and trump. new hampshire, the eyes of the world are going to be on you again. >> reporter: but clinton gets the best of sanders when new hampshire voters were asked no
5:08 pm
you think will be the next president? hilary clinton was the number one answer with 23% but trump was just a point behind at 22 and sanders had 16. interestingly, 30% are still un undecided. it's fascinating here that 30%, that number 30%, keep your eye on that because that number is greater than support than any candidate is getting of who we think will win. voters don't know what's going on in this election and that highlights how unusual it is. now imagine a trump sanders general election. no matter who won, the mandate would be for change. big change. the problem is, there is no big change both liberals and conservatives support. what one side wants, the other fierce. live in new hampshire, andy hiller, 7 news. >> anchor: andy is staying up there in new hampshire. you can look for his live reports leading up to the primary and every day he will be bringing you the very latest
