>> christa: now at noon, we have breaking news. a three-year-old rescued from a balcony, when an apartment bidding suddenly goes up in flames. good afternoon. this child luckily, was able to be pulled to safety. >> kris: very fortunate here. he was trapped on the fourth floor balcony. steve cooper is live with all the breaking details. steve? >> reporter: kris, at this hour, those fast-moving flames, the thick smoke is out right now. beyond where we are here, fire

knocking down some of the hot spots. but this was pretty dramatic scene with dozens of residents scrambling to get out. let's go to sky 7 hd over this fast-moving... this was a four-alarm fire here on eleanor street in chelsea this morning. where the situation, as you mentioned, only intensified when firefighters learned that a three-year-old boy was spotted up on a fourth-floor balcony all alone. now, he was taken out of the building by firefighters. we are told that he is doing okay this afternoon. also, crews from several surrounding communities responded to the fire here. this was a four-alarmer, as we mentioned. bringing dozens of firefighters from all over the area. there are 24 units in this apartment building. we are told by the deputy fire chief, as many as 60 to 100 residents live inside the building. everyone has been accounted for at this point. it is deputy fire chief telling us a short time ago, how they were able to rescue >> the three-year-old child

fire on the fourth floor, a neighbor spotted him in the rear of the building on a our crews were able to get to him, and i believe there was an occupant also that was trying to get him out of the building. basically, he took them out through the interior before the fire actually spread to >> reporter: and again, the good news that the hour. that toddler is doing okay. again, a lot of the people around here who live in the building standing around, anxious to learn whether or not they are able to get back in the building to grab some possessions or not. right now, they are still trying to tally up all the damage. we do know that two firefighters were injured fighting this fire here this morning. including one who was taken to mass. general hospital to get checked out. we know the investigation is ongoing right now. the district chief telling us that it appears the fire started in a third-floor apartment unit. they don't know why right now. that investigation is ongoing as we speak.

this will be his third appearance today. earlier today it was another town hall meeting in bowe, new hampshire. some critics have said that rubio hasn't put in as much time as the others here in new hampshire. he may be making up for lost time with a number of appearances across the state starting yesterday. including today. rubio, after that surprise, strong third-place finish in iowa is making the argument that his quality is he is the best candidate to take on hillary clinton or bernie sanders, whomever the democrats put up. >> we cannot win if we are divided against each other. not only will we bring it together, we will grow it. we need to convince more people that what we stand for is the right approach for them and for our country. and if we do that, we are going to win this election. i give us the best chance to win and if you don't believe me, ask a democrat. they do not want to run against me. they know that if i'm the

governor chris christie has been highly critical of rubio, calling him the boy in the bubble, saying he doesn't talk off-handed to reporters as much as the other candidates. has not exposed himself to as much questioning and christie himself appearing this morning in lebanon, new hampshire. he is saying he is the kind of guy who can have a give and what it takes for a presidential candidate. we will be hearing from rubio in the next half hour or so. we are live in laconia, new hampshire, dan hausle, 7 news. >> christa: to the clinton campaign. hillary clinton playing catch-up in new hampshire where bernie sanders has a double-digit lead over her. the former first lady is hoping, though, to get her message out to the people. she is reaching out to young husband as a key player in the campaign. let's head out to byron barnett in derry with more. byron? >> reporter: that's right. well, you know, we have gotten word that hillary clinton will be spending every day here in

primary. trying her best to catch bernie sanders who is leading in the polls. now, she just finished up right now at an event here at the boys and girls club in derry, new hampshire. she brought along a couple of familiar faces on the stump with her this morning. hillary clinton this morning was joined by former congresswoman and shooting victim gabby giffords and her husband astronaut mark kelly. clinton defended her record as a progressive and said if the race comes down to comparing her record with sanders, she said she would win by a land-slide. clinton also pledged to support gabby giffords in pushing for more gun control. >> speaking is difficult for me. but i want to say these two words. madam president. >> the agenda that gabby and mark have laid out that i have endorsed really is a

checks and closing loop holes. and 92% of americans support this. 85% of gun owners support this. this is a big difference in this campaign because as mark said, i have been standing up relentlessly calling out the gun lobby and doing what i can to penetrate the fear, thek a wee essence, the intimidation that too many elected officials feel in the face of their threatening political retaliation. >> thank you, keene! >> reporter: bernie sanders held a get out the vote rally in keene, new hampshire yesterday. he said he was pleased with the results in iowa even though h lost byless than one percentage point. after the rally, sanders went to his home in vermont to rest up a little. he canceled all of his events in new hampshire today. but he did appear on some of the morning news shows,

his-to-focus to his senate reelection campaign down in kentucky. >> kris: let's talk numbers now this noon. the umass-lowell polling numbers are coming out of new hampshire now. they appear to be seeing a dip. andy hiller has new polling numbers you will see on just one station. andy? >> reporter: i'm in our manchester headquarters with dr. joshua dick, our pollster. conducting our tracking poll which is showing the impact of the iowa caucus on the new hampshire primary. watching what was happening there because democrat hillary clinton and republican marco rubio are both moving up. donald trump is still in first. but he is frozen at 38%. ted cruz is second with 14%. marco rubio is third with 12%. jeb bush has nine. john kasich, 7. rounding out the republicans, chris christie has six.

three apiece. rand paul who has now dropped out has two. undecided? 6%. here is where you see it. trump stays on top, but he is not moving. ted cruz still in second. but look at rubio. he is up two points. jeb bush is holding steady. and john kasich isn't getting the reception he wanted here. he is down two points. dr. josh, marco-mentum? >> i can see why you would say. that he has gone up two points in the last two days. this poll is good news for donald trump who is heading steady at 38%. >> reporter: but hold on. trump isn't moving. marco is coming up. points. cruz didn't move at all over the last day. okay. we will see. we will see. >> reporter: now let's take a look at the democrats. bernie sanders still looks hillary clinton is kuing into his lead. she has a long way to go. sanders gets 61% in our poll.

where we track the steady rain to the west of us, back through western massachusetts, now entering western connecticut, this all has to slide on through. the spotty showers across eastern massachusetts turning to steadier rain as we work through the afternoon. especially by 2:00, 3:00, 4:00 this afternoon. temperatures? we are going up throughout the day. we are going from 40's now in the city of boston to 50's and upper 50's by this evening. we will talk more on the forecast and we could see a little bit of snow in the forecast as well coming up. >> kris: also this noon, new details in the death of a toddler from roxbury. we are learning that the department of children and families was in contact with theboys boy's care provider the hospital in respiratory distress. 7's victoria warren live in roxbury with the very latest. >> reporter: yeah. and police are at the house once again. but they have not provided an update on their investigation. the mayor, though, is weighing in, saying he wants answers from both the boston police

of children and families. police back at a roxbury home the toddler rushed to the hospital sunday night after someone called, saying the little boy wasn't breathing. he died at the hospital tuesday. >> when you hear situations like, this there is not many worse tragic situations. >> reporter: the boston mayor marty walsh has been briefed on the politician investigation and an investigation by the department of children and families. dcf reportedly had contact with the child days before police said he was the victim of some sort of trauma. at the time, the child was fine. neighbors say they have seen him smiling, playing and have never seen police at the house before. the mayor says he is waiting on the police to do their investigation and in the meantime, he says if someone suspects an issue with any child, they need to speak up. >> yeah. there is too many of these kids. one is too many. there is too many cases that happen... seems like every several months.

a plain old rain at this the winds becoming active. certainly, across southeastern massachusetts. where we have the warm air gusting 25-30 miles an hour. we will likely see some gusts 0-40 late this afternoon, through the evening hours. wind speeds not quite as strong farther off to the north and west. of course, we have had some rain in there certainly, across northern massachusetts and southern new hampshire. a couple of spot showers north and west of boston. getting ready to move into plays like arlington, winchester. that stretches back into sudbury and natick. that will slide off to the east real quick. in fact, it is already through sudbury and back into the 495 belt. close to hopkinton. mainly dry right now. we have a wall of showers to the west of us. not particularly heavy. but this line of showers will work through and the rain will become more widespread. by about 2:00 or 3:00 across much of eastern massachusetts. with the exception of perhaps the cape and the islands. you will get your rain. you will get yourain day's end and into the evening hours as we continue to track this wet weather. occasionally, we will get some downpours in here.

the blast ripped a huge hole in the side of this plane. as it was flying 12-14,000 feet in the air. passengers say they heard a loud explosion and you can see the air mass came out as passengers tried to move away from the gaping hole. somehow, the pilot was able to fly the plane back to the airport. the blast injured two people. investigators say the first test did come back positive for explosive residue. the plane now back in somalia as the investigation into how this happened continues. and that investigation does continue this afternoon. cnn is reporting that one person onboard that plane was killed when they fell out of the plane right after that explosion. saving the dozens of lives onboard. >> christa: up next, bill cosby back in court today. but today might be the last time the comedian has to face a judge. >> kris: a florida teen risking his own life to save

we have warmed even there to near 40 degrees. there is that rain stretching across new hampshire. stretching back into northern worcester county. a couple of sprinkles down boston. the bulk of the shower action to the north and to the west of 495 at this point. it is a wall of showers back through connecticut. work into the midafternoon hours here. even in the city of boston, 2:00, 3:00 this afternoon, a good bet that this shower activity will settle on. in you really ramp up that rain chance going into the late vrn and evening hours. we ramp up the temperature. look at that. 59 degrees. more on the forecast coming up. draes man responsible for a serious crash in jamaica plain that paralyzed two people back in 2013 is in court being sentenced right now. he is in brighton district court where he is facing up to

during the trial, prosecutors said he was driving more than 50 miles an hour. 20 miles over the posted speed limit. >> christa: new information about the death of a child in roxbury. reports from dcf say they visited the child at the home days before the incident. and he was doing fine. the three-year-old boy, however, was rushed to the hospital on sunday night. after he stopped breathing. and he died on tuesday. police searched the home and the dcf did take another baby away. while they investigated what happened there. today, catherine greig, the longtime girlfriend of james "whitey" bulger set to plead guilty to criminal contempt. a change of plea hearing will be held in boston. it will happen this afternoon. greig initially pleaded not guilty to criminal contempt after refusing to testify. on whether other people helped bulger during his years on the run. she is already serving eight years behind bars. >> kris: scary moments in chelsea. an apartment building goes up in flames there. crews, though, had to rescue a

late this afternoon into this evening, the mild air pushing up into that region. winds sustained at 21 miles an hour in the city of boston right now. gusting at times close to 30 in southeastern massachusetts. we will see the gusty wind pick up throughout the afternoon into the evening. light rain to moderate rain stretching from portsmouth, new hampshire back into manchester. a few showers rolling through cape ann right now. rockport, gloucester, stretching down route one. close to salem. boston, mainly rain-drop-free right now. you hit worcester. then go west. we have some showers working on in. light to moderate showers back through western connecticut. this is all pushing eastbound. i do expect that rain to overspread frs eastern massachusetts. now, overnight tonight, still sporadic showers out there. this evening, a couple of embedded downpours rolling on through. tomorrow morning, we wake up. there may be lingering isolated showers out there tomorrow morning. but overall, the theme here tomorrow morning is still mild. it will be mild this afternoon
