rains will switch over to snow about 5:00 to 7:00 down on the south shore, on the cape and the islands. the winter storm watch has been extended north into the city of boston. also through the southwestern suburbs in norfolk county as well as southern worcester county. for the rain transitioning over to the heavy wet snow late overnight tonight and through the day tomorrow. in the morning hours. i do expect that timing of the rain to switch to snow. boston out through worcester, somewhere in the three to five a.m. window here. once it does happen, it is snow is going to come down hard. a little bit later down through southeastern massachusetts. you get across plymouth county, perhaps down into brockton and bristol county, between 5:00 and 7:00 in the morning. we snowed to beat the band at times across southeastern massachusetts. between 5:00 a.m. and noontime. snowfall rates approaching one inch per hour in some of the bands that we get. this will basically lock in. a messy morning commute. in fact, if kids probably a lot of them won't be having school tomorrow. though i expect a lot of cancellations coming in once the snow settles on in.

54 degrees. we are talking about heavy snow in the forecast. what needs to happen? we need this cold air back through the midwest to start moving toward the east coast. which it will do overnight tonight. now that the front is offshore. this front is not going anywhere. as this wave of low pressure rides along that front, with plenty of moisture along it, initially, it starts off as rain. but as the cold air works in, we flip over to snow early tomorrow morning. that is when we do expect this snow to become heavy at times. you can see that transition here on the forecast model, and look at all of this blue showing up by midmorning. commute. 8:00 in the morning. many of us seeing that steady snow. and the trend over the last 12-24 hours has been a little bit farther off to the west. when you see the snowfall totals, brought it up accordingly with more moisture back in place. expecting the metro area, many towns to pick up three to six inches of snow. that extends out to southern

then you get close to foxboro. 95-495 exchange. down 24 as well into taunton. six to eight inches of snow. a good bet locally. nine inches, a possibility. this is heavy wet snow. tough to move. temperatures close to freezing if not just above it. for the timing of the danielle. danielle? chris:. hard to believe we are talking about all this snow. with temperatures in the 50's right now. overnight tonight, this cold air really starts to work in. now, as k a.m., notice temperatures are still in the upper 0's. and the low 40's. these temperatures really are more supporting rain. then by 7:00 a.m., these temperatures drop to around freezing. this is when the temperatures will really support the snowfall. and this is way it will stay throughout the morning into lunchtime in the afternoon. surely, this will really impact your commute tomorrow morning. 5:00 a.m. looks like fair travel. but really from 7:00 a.m. all the way until 11:00 a.m., it is going to be a mess out there. still really a mess for southeast massachusetts as we head into 1:00 p.m., too. then things get better as we

sunday night, every pundit on every station said cruz could not win. you heard that over and over and over again. can't be done. can't be done. the polls aren't there. it can't be done. i remember watching hannity the night before they had six experts on. they asked him, who is going to win? the answer was trump, trump, trump. trump, trump, trump. >> reporter: but of course, it was cruz who won. he admits his team made some mistakes when they urged ben carson supporters of the iowa caucuses to switch to cruz. they propped up some rumors that were out there. carson planned to stop his campaign. in fact, that was not the case. that was a mistake. they should have gone after the people to let them know hey, he is not suspending his campaign. that follow-up was not done by the cruz campaign. disciplining any of his people. he doesn't want to make scapegoats out of them.

one presidential candidate is moving ahead of another. so let's get right to andy hiller with the breakdown of the new numbers. andy? >> reporter: hello, christa. time in our new hampshire headquarters with dr. joshua dick who is conducting our poll with umass-lowell. and what it shows is the political ground in new hampshire is moving. we are seeing more of iowa's impact and all the arguing between the candidates that is under way here. hillary clinton is moving up. and marco rubio is really coming up. donald trump stays in first among the republicans with 36%, but marco rubio takes over second place with 15%. ted cruz now in third has 14%. jeb bush 8%. and john kasich, 7%. for the rest of the republicans, chris chris gets 5%. ben carson, 4%. carly fiorina,%. the undecided number is 8%. our tracking poll is what you want to look at. trump is on top, but he is down two points.

pretty much out through southern worcester county, too. rain going over to heavy wet snow early tomorrow morning. where is the cold air? 37 in buffalo. 36 in toronto. 9 in sudbury, ontario. overnight. moisture works back in, this is rain. you know, 10:00, midnight. 2:00 in the morning. mainly a rain event. between 3-5. you get enough cold air, start mixing in. you change it over to snow. from worcester into the city of boston. likely taking longer the further south and east you go. perhaps as close as 7:00. closer to the cape cod canal. 8:00 or 9:00, even 10:00 down across the cape. look at. this during the morning commute, this is a lot of deep blue here. dark blue showing up across eastern massachusetts. that is where we expect the highest snow totals and heaviest snow bands f right in time for the morning commute. this through about lunchtime. then in the afternoon, we taper it off from west to east. how much snow?

farther off to the west, we totals. thinking much of the boston area, three to six inches. some heavy wet snow falling. tomorrow morning. again, right during the six to nine. locally, as high as nine down through southeastern massachusetts. essentially, starting off close to foxboro, attleboro, down into taunton. down through much of southeastern massachusetts. temperatures right around 33-34. that is heavy wet snow. in terms of an inch of liquid, that would basically equate to eight inches of heavy wet snow with the storm system. that is a little tough to shovel in this event here. over to danielle. >> danielle: thanks, chris. right now those temperatures in the 50's. as we head into the overnight that, cold air works in from the west. 2:00 a.m., notice temperatures have dropped. we are still in the upper 30's, low 40's. so these numbers probably supporting rain. and then that changeover by 7:00 a.m., temperatures are right around freezing. so these are probably numbers that are supporting snow. and then these numbers are stick with us through

37 in buffalo. 21 in green bay. this is the cold air that is going to be pushing in toward new england overnight tonight. as essentially, a front gets stalled out. just to the east of us. along that front, there is a couple of waves of low pressure riding along it. this will ensure we get precipitation late overnight tonight into the day tomorrow. now, what will happen is when the cold enough air reaches us, the rain that we get beginning to break out by 9:00, 10:00, midnight tonight will transition over to snow. between about 3:00 and 5:00 in the morning. from worcester into the city of boston. worcester first. then toward boston. then eventually, down through the south shore by about 7:00 in the morning. the cape and the islands, probably between about 8:00 and 10:00 in the morning. look what happens here. right smack-dab in the middle of the morning commute. steady snow if not at times, heavy snow. once that snow does transition from that rain, it will snow hard enough where the roads become slick. fairly quick here across much of eastern massachusetts. that will continue to be the case through noontime. then from noontime in worcester to 2:00 in the

starts to end from west to east. perhaps a little bit longer down through the cape and the islands. how much snow to expect in well, the track with this storm has been a little bit farther off to the west. we have had to bring more moisture weather. i do expect that three to six inches of snow will be widespread across eastern massachusetts. now, you get into southeastern massachusetts, beginning as early as getting into fox pro here, attleboro, over to brockton, taunton, six to eight inches of snow likely. there may be one or two towns that gets away with nine inches of snow. this is going to be a heavy, wet snow. again, this will fall on top of the puddles out there. and the rain that we get overnight. so it is going to be tough to move. certainly, going to create a mess for the morning commute. for more on the temperatures with this storm now, over to danielle. >> danielle: as we head into tonight and tomorrow morning, the temperatures will really drop. as the cool air works. in 2:00 a.m. overnight tonight, temperatures still in the upper 0's, low 40's. with these numbers, we are probably dealing with rain. and then the changeover to snow, as we head into 7:00 a.m.

that will transition to rain over to snow early tomorrow morning. lined up along the front. pressure. this, as it expands northbound. new england. we do expect more precipitation and the trend here over the last day or two is to bring it farther off to the west. initially, starting off as rain this evening. 9:00, 10:00, 11:00, midnight tonight. some water out there. temperatures running into the low 40's. 3:00 in the morning, 4:00 in the morning, we flip to snow in worcester. probably around 5r 5:00 or 6:00 in the city of boston. then it starts to snow hard in eastern massachusetts. just in time for the morning commute. may take through 7:00 down through southeastern massachusetts and later than that, down across the cape, to transition to all snow. look at the deep blue right in the heart of the morning commute. that is steady snow, if not at times, heavy snow. wet snow, at. that the roadways will be covered. despite the warm air. when it snows hard enough, you can get that snow to cover the roadways out there. i expect that to be the case tomorrow morning.
