john kasich has been facing an uphill battle hampshire. >> he won the small town of dixville notch and he's hoping to gain ground in today's vote. brandon gunnoe joining campaign. >>reporter: some poles have him in second. he feels good. now it's just time for the voters to decide. john kasich may have done poorly in iowa but according to some polls he could place second in new hampshire. >> this is really no different than when i first started in politics which is really getting with the folks. like we used to do coffees. now we do town halls.

kasich even got out of bed, he already had a win. >> as soon as i woke up this morning, i had all of these e-mails from people saying great win at the notch. >>reporter: if kasich does well, him and his team at midnight are going to board a charter plane and head to south carolina. a powerful message with the outcome tonight. >> after a strong showing in iowa, he he's campaigned very strong here in new hampshire. the big question is will it be enough. jennifer eagan is at marco rubio headquarters for us. >>reporter: adam, they are all set up here. senator rubio will be here later tonight. here. jonathan hall live from the cruz campaign now. >>reporter: hey, guys, it's good to be the winner, right? and cruz wants to build on his momentum. he also wants to avoid the fate of the iowa winner four years back. remember him, rick santorum? he was one and done. at the famed red arrow diner, business was brisk and cruz wonders if victory may be on the surge. >> we are doing our very best on the ground game and the strength of our campaign is the grass roots. >>reporter: the texas senator has 30 offices set up like this one to get out the vote. >> all four of you, fantastic. thank you so much. >> a lot of undecideds, even at the last minute. they are call our supporters, reminding them to vote. they get last-minute persuasion to those on the fence.

but i thank you all for the companies. >>reporter: vermont senator bernie sanders was spotted in concord, new hampshire. it comes after a busy week of campaigning for the 74-year-old. >> it sounds to me like you're ready for a political revolution. ahead in the new hampshire polls by double digits, he's had a strong hold on women and young voters. >> young people are sick of the same old-same old. >>reporter: sanders spent most of the time this week building on the momentum and hoping to win big tonight. and the sanders campaign here is gathering at concord high school. he says it represents youth which he thinks is a big part of his base. kimberly bookman, 7 news. >> so many people are saying that sanders is doing so well from here in new hampshire because he's from next door in vermont. opponents are saying

his campaign responding? >>reporter: like he said, the clinton camp really came up with that excuse saying he sort of had a home field advantage, if you will, because he's from neighboring vermont. but we've been attending a lot of events in the last week. everyone is voting for different reasons but i haven't heard one person adam? >> kimberly bookman, we clinton spent the last week in new hampshire trying to play catch up with bernie sanders. she has stayed here to campaign in the granite state and she also stepped up the attacks against sanders. >> she's making a last push for votes on this primary day, promising to work until the last vote is cast. byron barnett is at clinton headquarters with more on the effort there. byron? >>reporter: that's what she's been saying. her husband was famous saying he's going to be here until the last dog dies.

in new hampshire today, campaigning right down to the wire. as you said, she's been behind in the polls but she's been working as hard as she can to close that gap. hillary clinton up early hitting polling places, greeting voters and thanking supporters. >> this is a great process and as i said over the last couple of days, we're going to keep working literally until the last vote is cast and counted. >>reporter: clinton has been playing catch up to bernie sanders who had a 30 point lead in the polls a week ago and now many believe her campaign will be judged by how close she comes to sanders, if she loses. >> i am just looking for a great election day. >>reporter: clinton was all smiles this morning, even when she bummed into frank feefiorina

you want a picture? >>reporter: hillary clinton has been saying all along this week she's hoping for a win here in new hampshire but privately some of her top supporters and some of her staffers have said that they do believe she can survive a loss here in new hampshire as the campaign moves on to other states where clinton has a big lead in the polls herself. so that's the latest live here in hooksett, new hampshire. i'm byron barnett, 7 news. new hampshire voters are expected to turn out impact ridiculous? that's the money question our political editor andy hiller is with us here in manchester. who comes out on top with so many people voting today? >>reporter: adam, i would say the answer is that a big turnout is a big deal for bernie sanders and donald trump and maybe one more candidate to be named later tonight. sanders needs young voters to go to the polls and historically they haven't. so a big turnout is a

as for trump his poll, our polls have shown that his supporters are the most committed. a big turnout ought to mean a big win for him. >> we talk about the independents in new hampshire. right, there's a lot of independents in new hampshire. you said they've played a key role here. so let's look at those numbers right now. we'll get them up on the screen, 390,000 independents, 262000 republicans and 231,000 democrats. who is this good for? >>reporter: if you're an independent you don't like politics as unusual which both parties represent. the parties are institutions. they are symbols of the status quo, so that should make independents supporters of outsider candidates, rebels and who is that? bernie sanders and donald trump. >> seems like that's

retiring. >> you'll recall he was critically injured in the boston marathon shoot out. cheryl fiandaca is in the news room to talk about what had to be a big decision. >>reporter: his injuries have forced him to retire from the job he says he still loves. he was shot in the watertown shootout in pursuit of the marathon bombers, donohue lost nearly all of the blood in his body. his goal was to go back to work and he did, even getting promoted to sergeant. but he says the time is right to move on. earlier today he sent out this tweet, the day has come but the future is bright. thank you to everyone who has supported me over the last three years. donohue says it was a tough decision to leave the transit police. >> it was, it was, but i'm finding way to see stay involved in the criminal justice community. i'm speaking in training at some upcoming conference this is year

you're located tomorrow. scattered snow showers but there could be heavier snow squalls. we'll get to that i know just a second. cold night ahead of us but not as cold as it will be of we get in the weekend. snow showers not far from us and that energy slides into our area tomorrow. scattered in nature, nothing lucky what we saw yesterday or friday for that matter. you just see these little spots popping up on the map and it's hard to pinpoint exactly where they show up. a more intense band, a snow squall could show up in one area or another and we know that can quickly reduce visibility and quickly drop a couple to even a few inches of isolated snowfall accumulation in some spots. one to three inches, it's just the best shot for that snowfall will be south of the mass pike. for the rest of us just some light scattered snow showers. mostly cloudy overnight tonight. 16 to 24 and tomorrow
