>> this is 7 news at noon. >> sarah: first at noon. there is breaking news. police in woburn searching the street. >> christa: right now they are trying to track down a suspect in a neighborhood. what is the scene right now. kelli o'hara has more on what we are learning about this. >> reporter: good afternoon. cops have been combing this neighborhood for a person possibly involved in a hit-and-run earlier this morning. according to an eyewitness. now, as you can see right from the video, state police along with woburn police have been combing these streets with k-9

described by one officer we spoke to as armed and dangerous. they have been there all morning long searching this neighborhood in particular. why, though, they are not saying. an eyewitness described that hit-and-run to us earlier. >> hit a person. crossing the walk. the person then ends up on top of the car. went probably-- i don't know-- a thousand feet, 2,000 feet up the road before he finally fell off. >> reporter: now, we have been told that man was rushed to the hospital. his condition is unknown right police searching this neighborhood in woburn for a person possibly involved in a hit-and-run earlier this morning in downtown. as soon as we get information, we will deliver it to you. live in woburn, 7 news. >> sarah: also breaking: dangerous debris in millbury. three people injured when a large pete of metal fell off a truck smashing into a driver's windshield. now the driver is facing charges.

the breaking details. >> reporter: well that, car was taken here to ted's towing in... with serious damage. take a look at these pictures. these were treated out. you see the windshield of the car smashed in. bending part of the passenger side door. it all happened just before 7:00 this morning on the pike in milbury. state police say a track or the-trailer lost part of its load, which included a large metal frame structure. it flew into this car injuring three people. we are told they have minor injuries which is unbelievable when you see these pictures. now, state police also say that this driver is facing charges. they say he never stopped, and they also say his load was improperly secured. your forecast now. another dose of winter a little more snow in the air right now. nothing at all like we saw on monday. let's go to chris lambert with what's in store for the rest of the day. christa. not a big storm. we do have snowflakes out

31 in boston right now. 33 in norwood. 32 in bedford. here are some of the flakes on the radar. some rays of sunshine trying times. that has helped things out on the pavement. snow. the pave suspect wet thanks to some sunshine. you do have thicker clouds and heavier bursts of snow south and west of worcester, right there across the mass. pike, 84 exchange, heading into southern worcester county, sturbridge, southbridge, nearby towns here. when you get that burst of snow, you certainly could get a coating if not more than that. on some of the side streets here, temperatures marginal. now above the freezing mark. more snow squalls west of us. so this unstable atmosphere has to continue to work on through. as we go throughout the day. i do expect these scattered you could get a brief burst of snow midafternoon into the late afternoon hours. other than that, we will wind overnight tonight. morning.

coming up in a bit. >> sarah: a home in fitchburg firefighters race to the rescue, trying to save three burning home. they were able to pull two people to safety. the third person did not make it out alive. fitchburg now with more on this breaking story. >> reporter: family and friends in the neighborhood here in fitchburg really in shock at this hour. the flames are now out. you can see the damage done from these fast-moving flames early this morning. so fast that when firefighters arrived on the scene, this was really a chaotic scene. a two-family home. three adults from the same family were trapped inside. >> you could see the flames. we could feel the heat from our driveway. >> reporter: frantic effort by fitchburg firefighters racing to rescue victims trapped inside this two-family home on walton street in the middle of the night. >> when you pull up and there is no people standing out on the street saying it is our house and you have cars in the

situation. >> reporter: the fire chief rushed to the scene. helping police pull a male victim from the burning building who was able to tell them his two sisters were still inside. >> we could feel the heat from our back porch. out. i went to make sure our neighbor was okay. >> reporter: firefighters found one sister near the stairs with no pulse. emergency responders performed cpr on her before she was rushed to the hospital. her sister was found dead in the second-floor bedroom. the likely room where the blaze began. investigators seem to know where the fire started but why is still unclear. >> we don't believe it to be suspicious. we do have a preliminary cause that we are not releasing at this time. we still need to talk to the people involved in the fire. >> i have never seen a fire that large up close. very scary. very scary. >> reporter: right now crews are busy boarding up the building here. the victim's names are not being released at this hour by fire officials. all we are being told is the state fire marshal is involved in this investigation that is

this afternoon, steve cooper, 7 news. >> christa: a police chase during into a dangerous ride in abington when the driver crashes into a utility pole. the two people inside this car were taken to the hospital and now the driver is facing some charges. let's go to nicole oliverio in abington right now with more. nicole? >> reporter: well, christa, according to officers, that driver didn't stop for police because he thought he had a warrant out and he didn't want to go to jail before his birthday which is next week. now the clean-up continues. that damaged pole almost repaired. a police chase that began in weymouth came to a crashing end in abington when the driver flipped his car. weymouth police say officers tried to pull over the driver for speeding, but he didn't stop. the 24-year-old man from dorchester ended up crashing on route 18. snapping this utility pole in half and knocking out power overnight to nearly 2,000 customers.

coming down first at 5-45 miles an hour for that top section. then they hit the little plateau where there is a little bit of a jump. they are going to fly 50-60 feet up in the air. now, practice hasn't started. we have some video we want to show you from earlier today. when we had some folks going down a little bit. going down slowly to. make sure the snow is where it needs to be, getting set up for thursday and friday's big event. on thursday, it is all about the snow-boarders. take over. they are competing in the event here. this is part of the grand prix series. in fact, this is the final event of the three-event grand prix series. this will be the grand finale. in fact, the last event the ussa, the ski and snowboarding association held on the east coast, killington back in 1998. so it's been a while. most oft vents are held out west. they are trying to spread this fun, the skiing and snowboarding to the east coast fans here. and fenway park is going to

>> chris: i think of slefding going down that thing. you would wind up somewhere on yawkey way clark griswold-style. yes. as kris was saying, we finally have the cold air. no problem there at fenway park with the snow. a look at the mass. pike. close to the city of worcester, some light snow. southwest of the city, some heavier bursts of snow now ongoing. essentially, close to worcester back into sturbridge and southbridge right now. along the 84-90 exchange across the mass. pike. this lifting offer to the northeast. you notice the structure of everything. it is hilt or miss. where we are missing, we even have some rays of sunshine. in fact, the city of boston, it's been snowing and somewhat sunny at the same time during the day so far. more scattered snow squalls back into upstate new york. the atmosphere is unstable. as we get in the afternoon, it is a lot like a late spring or summer day where you catch

you get the daytime heating. in this case, daytime heating 30's. once that happens, you have enough instability to drive pop-up snow squalls. that will roll through from midafternoon through about sunset tonight. then we diminish the activity overnight tonight and refire it up again for tomorrow. i don't expect a lot out of. this a coating to an inch. there may be a couple of towns in worcester county, closer to two inches of snow. a lot of this will fall not on the pavement. you know, on the pavement, maybe a slushy coating once you get enough of a burst of precipitation to come on through. mostly cloudy tomorrow. snow shower out there. upper 20's to near 30 degrees. yes, here is the big air at fenway forecast. tomorrow emping. running in the low 20's. should be running down into the upper teens on friday. plenty of cold air to hold the snow on the slopes. plenty of cold air coming over the weekend. right, danielle? >> danielle: yeah. that is exactly right. if you are wondering where is comeback this weekend. will feel really cold out there. saturday evening, if you are

saying exactly why. >> sarah: 7 news now turning to the weather. once again, we are seeing some snow move through the area today. we are tracking a bitter blast that will send temperatures plunging. meteorologist chris lambert is here now with more. >> chris: in fact, temperatures widespread below zero by sunday morning. 30 in boston right now. 36 in marshfield. a cold start to the day. overall, not that cold for this time of year. seasonable weather. a few flakes in boston. heavier snow showers and squalls getting together here just west of worcester back through spencer and brookfield. down through southbridge. this is heading into the city of worcester. we are beginning to see some of the heavier bursts of snow move out of connecticut into central massachusetts. a few towns in connecticut picking up one, two inches of snow. more snow squalls off to the west. those ones scat nerd nature. not all towns are going to see one or two inches of snow. i do expect a couple of towns to pick up an inch or two as come on in from the west of us. it is almost like a springtime or summertime theme. where you have some dry stretches. then you get a burst of snow.

two people were killed when a car hit a tree, rolled over, then burst into flames. one person was taken to the hospital. state police are investigating what happened. >> christa: a bitter battle between a plow truck operator and the owner of an auto shop in rockland. and you are about to see it in the surveillance video. raymond sukar stands his ground. he says the plow threatens him. now he says the plow driver who is also a town employee was dumping snow right into his private lot. and you can see the plow eventually turns and dumps the snow right next to sukar. this apparently started what enthe same driver told him to move the snow, blocking a sidewalk the day before. >> and then he said "i'm the boss." he said "the town doesn't like you." that is what i heard him saying. >> christa: so after hearing about what happened, the highway superintendent came to clear the snow that his employee left behind.

investigating the matter. >> sarah: a local hero says he is ready for the next chapter in his life. transit police sergeant dick donahue is retiring. sergeant donahue was critically injured during the boston marathon shoot-out. cheryl fiandaca has more on his decision. >> reporter: sergeant donahue fought his way back from near death. the pain and weakness caused from his injuries have forced him to retire from the job he still loves. he was shot in watertown during the pursuit of the boston marathon bombers. donahue lost nearly all of the blood in his body. his goal during his recovery was to go back to work. and he did. even get progress moted to sergeant: now he says the time is right to move on. earlier today, he sent out a tweet. "the day has come, but the future is bright. thank you to everyone who supported me over the last three years." donahue says it was a tough decision to leave the transit police. >> it was. it was. but i'm finding ways to stay involved in the criminal

>> christa: we are back at 12:46. breaking news in the race for the white house and the associated press reporting that new jersey governor chris christie is expected to formally drop out of the presidential race. an official announcement is expected later on today. this comes, of course, less than 24 hours after he finished in sixth place in the new hampshire primary. and in his concession speech last night, he told supporters he planned to use today to head back to new jersey and we will follow the story today. >> now 7 weather with meteorologist chris lambert. >> chris: 12:47 on this wednesday afternoon. good afternoon, everyone. 30 degrees in boston. 4 in plymouth. we have had some snowflakes out there. sunshine trying to peer on through the clouds at times. wind out of the south. that has helped bring in some of the somewhat mild air. at least we are above freezing in many towns right now.

30 degrees. weston tolls, out the mass. pike, some scattered snow showers there. and some heavier snow showers and even squalls working into the city of worcester right now. back to the west of worcester, through spencer and down toward the 84 mass. pike southbridge, this batch is northeast. you notice the nature of the game. it's hit or it's miss. when you are missing some of these snow showers and squalls, you get a little bit of sunshine trying to peer on through. upstate new york. this is going to be a theme into the afternoon. we will get occasional bursts of snow to work on through for about 20 minutes or maybe 30 minutes. it might snow fairly hard. or dropping a coating to an inch of snow. other times, it backs off. you get some sunshine trying to peer on through the clouds. partly cloudy skies tonight. it will be cool tonight. upper teens, low to middle 20's. this is seasonable stuff. tomorrow, below seasonal levels. a little colder out there. some scattered snow showers and snow squalls around on thursday itself.

cold air, the story here. this cold air extends all the way through northern canada. that is going to work right down through hudson bay. right down into southern new england. it looks like it will be below zero in the city of boston come sunday morning here. for more on the timing of the cold, over to danielle. >> danielle: well, it's been almost a year. perfect timing to get there again, chris. as we head into saturday and sunday, saturday evening, this is what it's going to feel like outside. if you have dinner plans saturday night, dress for zero in boston. you go to bed, you wake up sunday morning, and then it is going to feel like 26 bell low in boston. and just frigid out there for the rest of your day on sunday. and the cold is going to come really quickly. from 4:00 p.m. on saturday night to 7:00 a.m. sunday morning. it is going to feel like we are dropping almost 20 degrees. we could set some records sunday morning, too. we are forecasting one below and three below is the record in boston. even cooler than that out in worcester.

cold weekend for the rest of the forecast, chris, back to you. >> chris: it is. you know what, though? the cold air not lasting that long. we are talking about a 48-hour stint in terms of the core of the cold air. we will track these scattered snow showers around today and again tomorrow. tomorrow, perhaps another coating to an inch of snow in a few towns out there. keep in mind that this afternoon, if you get a heavy burstle of snow, even if temperatures initially, 34, 35 degrees, they may briefly reduce down to 2. you could get a quick coating even on the roadways. slick travel in spots. not all towns are going to see it. that is something we will watch the next couple of days. that snowflake on saturday, some snow showers working through on the leading edge of this arctic air coming in saturday morning. friday night into saturday morning. then from saturday afternoon on, it is all about the cold windchills. >> christa: all right. coming up, a celebration fit for champions. broncos fans coming out to offer their support after a super bowl win.
