7's kempy o'hara live for news wareham now where the alleged gunman faced a judge today. kielty? >> anchor: good evening. prosecutors say the motive to this murder was an affair that the suspect just found out about recently. >> anchor: john witte in court. the berklee man accused of killing an acquaintance gunning him down at his wareham home monday night. shooting him in cold blood. prosecutors say the motive to the murder, jealousy over a woman . he knew the victim mr. williams. he went on to say that his girlfriend of 25 years had passed away in late january and he had recently discovered that she and the victim had unbeknownst to him prior been involved romantically . believed when he learned of the relationship after his girlfriend's death he went over to the victim's home, shooting as well. mr. williams was found lying on his floor motionless a short distance from the front

trauma to his body. ten gunshot wounds to his head and upper back area. >> anchor: that victim was discovered dead in his own home the next day. prosecutors say what led them to arrest witte was all of the evidence in his home from guns to ammunition and even blood on the district attorney says the victim's family is devastated. it's a shocker i think to find out what exactly happened, what specifically happened to your dad and how brutally he was killed in his own home. >> anchor: prosecutors say another piece of evidence that led them to witte was his gps device that had the victim's address locked in there. family says their father was a loved member that will be missed daryl. in wareham tonight, kelly o'hara 7 news . >> anchor: fire fighters facing frigid temperatures to battle a house fire in norton last night. the fire crew put out the flames despite the cold weather. three people inside that house were able to get out safely. the norton fire chief says his team acted quickly. once they got their emergency call . >> anchor: we responded upon

pellets. no injuries have been reported. cause of the fire is still under investigation. take a local this a flood of trouble in pennsylvania. a watermain break this morning eroding into a river then it froze. people who live there looks like a giant iceberg there in the street. i looked out the front window and it looked as if there is like a frozen wave water and it was literally frozen solid . >> reporter: from a red cross shelter scranton, pennsylvania nicole snapped these pictures from her apartment. the icy water flooded the street in front of her building . everything was blanketed in water. it was actually like icebergs coming down the road. it was amazing. it really was . eventually it all turned to ice. every furnace was damaged. the water company called in contractors to fix the damage while crews got to work on fixing the broken main. because we were shutting down valves and because of the amount of water in the area, we couldn't reach all of the valves

i'm not really expecting snowflakes in boston. maybe a few flurries tomorrow morning but that would be about it with temperatures tomorrow morning near 20 degrees. skiers you probably can get some runs in tomorrow morning and then the arctic air takes over. you can ski in the afternoon if you want skiers as well but those wind chills become legitimate as we work into the afternoon and evening hours. here you go. 4:00 tomorrow, the temperatures in the middle teens so tomorrow morning will be milder than tomorrow afternoon. then 7:00 tomorrow night the numbers down into the single numbers with wind chills between evening. forget about the fashion statement. it's just layer up, put the puffy coat on. you know the kind you can't put your arm down because it will be that cold out there with thes on sunday morning around five below below. the record in the city is three below and i think we'll get there and it's a statement when boston logan gets below zero also this similar when it goes above 100 in the summertime because the censor is right out at the water's edge and usually water likes to keep things in

is finding a wheat way to give back to veterans take a school project outside the walls of the classroom an now expanding. this week we're getting a closer look at his big idea and how it's making lives of local veterans a little bit sweeter of the christa delcamp has today's class act. >> anchor: thanks for letting me interrupt. so i'm here today because every week we do an amazing segment called class act and i hope that all of you will give a huge round after plus to bobby sweet. over the past year bobby sweet has made it his mission to give back to those who have . it's my two grandfathers served and my cousin, two of my . the 7th grader took a cue from his last name launching a campaign to deliver something sweet to the veteran's hospital in bedford, massachusetts. we collect candy and little bags and deliver it to the va

sweet's for soldiers started last year during a class project but sweet didn't stop when the final bell rang . he took this hypothetical class project and has turned it into an action project to serve others which i think is incredibly impressive . since then the campaign has expanded . what started as a candy drive turned into a hygiene drive this summer with the help of his older brother. he did it again for veteran's day this past november and now he he is doing it again . sweet says he is not look looking to stop any time soon . hopefully most of my life until i can't really any more but as long as i can pretty much just keep helping out. i hope it grows bigger and get more people involved. what a great guy. great job there. that was awesome . his last name is sweet. i love that. good irony . >> anchor: another 30 minutes of 7 news ahead. i'm ryan schulteis. 7 news at 6:00 starts right now.

quarter of a mile before crashing into a concrete wall . big truck tire hitting something like that. you never know. down your bless, every day i guess . >> anchor: within hours of the fatal accident and under directive of the governor mass highway crews hit the roads inspecting every manhole cover electrical panel and storm great on highways around greater boston. we decided to send the highway crews out to inspect every single opening of any kind. >> anchor: the manhole cover involved in the fatal crash was last inspected in june of 2014 and hadn't been removed for any reason or any recent work accord according to state highway officials. i drove by the car. it was pretty distressing to see see. the police, state police were there. sad, very sad. >> reporter: we're being told tonight the suffolk county district attorney's office is leading this investigation as state police continue piecing together everything that happened out here today. one the things the governor said
