ice finishes the job destroying the worcester home. the freezing cold temperatures caused problems for crews trying to put out the fire . our alreadier pipes weren't working. the valves to get the water to the apparatus didn't work so it was a challenge all the way around. >> reporter: this was third fire in a span several hours which created problems with the department's equipment . most of the crews working at this fire had been to the previous fire and hadant had a chance to thaw out worcester not the only community to battle multiple house fires. in weymouth crews responded to three fires in two hours. the fire chief says two were caused by people trying to warm their pipes, the third fire remains under investigation. again, the weather making things more difficult. cold weather operations, the frozen, we did well with that tonight . in worcester fortunately no one was hurt only one person was inside a first floor apartment

it was a busy night for fire fighters. it's been a long time since we had so many multiples in one night . >> reporter: the cause of this fire remains under investigation but fire fighters say it's too dangerous to go inside so the building is going to have to be torn down. in worcester, nicole oliverio, 7 news one person dead after a three story home goes ups in flames in fall river sunday night. the fire broke out at this house obeastern avenue. fire officials discovered the victim's body there on the third floor. those officials also saying the cold temperatures made it harder to fight that fire. everything is frozen. nothing is meant to work in this at thement it's our gear, you use it, you do what you can but nothing is meant to work in these temperatures . the regulators and tanks kept freezing. one fire fighter was injured when he slipped and fell on ice. the fire chief there says it still is too soon to know what caused the fire . >> anchor: a man under arrest after a hit and run in auburn. scott tatro slammed into another car on route 20 and drove off. investigators believe he was

this is the sixth time he has been arrested for driving under the influence. his license has been suspended for 15 years. right now he is being hell on $5 000 cash bail . >> anchor: we're following more news today. alleged thief abigail kemp is facing new charges. she is accused of going to a store in south carolina and then pulling out a gun, zip tying employees and stealing almost a million dollars in jewels. the 24-year-old aspiring model is now charged with robbery and uing a gun while committing a crime. she is already facing similar charges in georgia and florida. broncos quarterback payton man something among a dozen former college athletes mentioned in a new lawsuit against the university of tennessee. the suit claims the university created a hostile work environment by the way it handled alleged sexual assaults by student athletes. it cited an alleged incident where manning had inappropriate can't with a female trainer at the time. manning said he was mooning a teammate.

pulled into the machine but his leg tripped the safety bar shutting the blades off inching from his head. he still suffered a broken leg and had injury but is expected to be okay. >> anchor: a scare for students in washington state when their ski bus burst into flames. it happened just after the students got off. but the students weren't going to let a little fire ruin a day of skiing. nick emons reports. the ski staff was ed ready for a normal saturday in seattle. we were very busy with an awesome powder day . >> reporter: on this morning, things take a terrifying turn . not your normal ski day . a bus carrying a bus of high schoolers caught fir on its way up the mountain just a mile from the resort. they were on their way to a ski day before a mechanical malfunction caused the flames. luckily, everyone on board escaped unharmed and they didn't wait and for long. within minutes, they were up here at the ski area, we had them safely in the lodge and had them all together as a group and went from there . the kids still wept skiing. the mountain even offered free lunch and gear for these who

very scary experience. >> anchor: glad he is okay and fortunately only suffered some minor injuries but it was a very busy weekend for lifeguards there on saturday alone they responded to more than 12 rescues. >> anchor: also on 7, an earthquake shakes new zealand so hard it caused this cliff to collapse right into the ocean. no serious injuries but several buildings were evacuated as a precaution. next week marks the five year anniversary of an earthquake that killed almost 200 people there. a massive fire causes a scare on stage in india. it happened during an outdoor dance performance. you can see the flames engulf that stage. 25,000 people evacuated. no one was hurt. right now there is no word on the cause of the fire . >> anchor: a wild elephant on the loose in china. yesterday pushing cars and even people. you can see it right there walk walking in the middle of traffic officials say he ran away from a nature reserve after he failed to win the affections of a female elephant. the reserve was able to track down the elephant and bring him become home.

okay, so you were talking about hawaii. boy, that would be nice right now. we have so many weird things coming up in the weather, jr. dare i say that? can. perhaps even triple dog dare. s how cold it was over the weekend. even right now winter weather advisory in effect unti9:00 tomorrow morning. boston at this time at 22. worcester 16. jaffrey at 18. there is warm air on the maps but it's way down here in the southern states. a lot of real estate to cover and arctic air can be stubborn to left and that's going to be the case later this evening. overnight tonight and very early tomorrow morning. especially out through the hampshire. this storm system going off to our west out through the salem orange river valley means eventually warm air will win the battle but it will be a slow process and that battle take the form of clouds and pockets of light snow and flurries around metro boston. steadier snow off to our south nothing that's overwhelming but if you have travel plans in the net few hours it will be patches of light snow.

brief little thump of some stead steadier snow. this is where you get snow in the storm because as we continue to head through the evening hours the temperatures will slowly warm and in fact they will warm faster up in the clouds than they will at the ground and that will change the snowflakes over to sleet pellets then pockets of freezing rain around midnight tonight but you notice the south shore, south coast and even the city does warm. also the precipitation winds down for a short time tomorrow morning. so if you have a morning commute tomorrow, i do think there will be a couple of slick spots especially out along 495 as well as worcester hills. the amount of snow on the way up until midnight tonight one to two inches of snow. there will be no accumulating snow anywhere after midnight tonight. temperatures are wide range on the cape numbers climb to around 40 but back through metrowest the worcester hill and southern new hampshire the temperatures stay in the upper 20's all night tonight. even tomorrow morning you know when the air terms are about 33 or 34 the ground because it's been so cold the ground temperatures, road temperatures will be about 30 degrees even

red shading so i do anticipate some poor travel conditions tomorrow morning for the morning commute. the worcester hills, southern new hampshire, perhaps portions of 495 corridor north of the mass pike up through the merrimac valley but inside 128 i'm thinking right now it's just a chilly, drizzly, rainy tomorrow morning. and then as ework into the afternoon the numbers start to rise thanks to a southeast wind so you have a couple of isolated showers tomorrow morning with steadier rainfall arriving for tomorrow evening's commute. the storm come at us in two pieces. the first piece this evening and tonight then there is a break for several hours midday tomorrow and then there will be the second batch of moisture will be in the form of rain late tomorrow afternoon. look at these temperatures tomorrow. unreal. boston late in the day tomorrow, 57, manchester at 49. it takes all afternoon to get these numbers. it will not be 50 degrees tomorrow morning in fitchburg but very late in the day and tomorrow evening. fitchburg and worcester up are 40's to around 50.
