>> this is 7news now. >> kris: good tuesday morning to you. 7news "today in new england" begins in just a few minutes. >> sarah: here's some of the stories we're working on for you. you're going to want to be careful heading out the door this morning. icy conditions on sidewalks, parking lots, back roads. crews have been out trying to get the roads clear, but there were some spin-outs overnight. >> kris: it's slippery out there. a newton hotel remaining closed this morning after a pipe burst and flooded an electrical room. there people staying at the crowne plaza had to be evacuated last night and taken to other area hotels. >> sarah: and a revere neighborhood encased in ice watching and waiting as temperatures rise today.

temperatures rise they will get a look at a floodgate that malfunctioned over the weekend. >> kris: one good thing, it's getting warmer out. >> sarah: it's hard the believe. chris, we have these frozenide roads tonight, and we could get in the 50s today. >> chris: absolutely. we're talking 60-degree swings in some towns. subzero yesterday to well into the 50s this afternoon. a winter weather advisory in effect until 9:00 a.m. inland. that's where temperatures are coldest and you have icy roads north an west of the city of boston. still at freezing in boston, but look at this. we've jumped up to 45 in norwood and 50 many plymouth, 28 in bedford and 27 in fitchburg right now. the winds calm or very light where we have subfreezing temperatures from boston north and west. you notice south of the city, though, that wind now out of the south and it's the south wind that will erode that cold air and the temperatures do jump up, but to get there, we still have the slick condition, especially inland. not a whole lot of rain, freezing rain falling at this hour, so the biggest issue is just that freezing drizzle.

even locations that have seen temperatures go up to 33, 34, 35, that ground still frozen. so you're still getting icy spots with temperatures just above freezing. we go through thedy and see the temperature trend by 9:00 a.m., worcester, bedford, up into beverly, the north shore, we're well above the freezing mark. there may be pockets of colder air in the nashoba valley, merrimack valley, southern new hampshire, but even by 10:00, 11:00, that is gone and all of us into the 50s as we work into the afternoon. just an incredible turnaround. once we get into the afternoon, we'll feature a higher chance of some rain. so watch out for the icy roads, secondary roads inland through the next few hours. better travel through mid-day. a soaking rain and gusty wind this afternoon. more on that forecast as "today in new england" starts right now. >> sarah: now at 5:00, today's rising temperatures bringing pipes to their breaking points, which could lead to more bursts. >> kris: getting to work this morning could take a little
