colder spots, merrimac value, southern new hampshire. even there, you shoot up to 50. winds gusting 20, 35 miles per hour out of the south. that will continue to increase, a couple of showers in here across worcester county as well as south and west out toward bon of. back into hopkinton, these north. expect scattered showers over the next few hours. later this afternoon, this line of rain yesterdayed down pours and strong wind gusts has to work on through. it looks like the timing of that between about 4 and 8 p.m. temperatures even this evening are running into the 50s. so contend with that strong wind at times, gusting over 50 miles per hour over eastern mass. in between 4 and 8 p.m. quick, half an inch, to an inch of rain. do expect standing water on the roadways. reduced visibility. so a slow go for the rain and

evening commute. isolated wind damage too. tree branches falling down when the winds start gusting. this all wraps up by midnight tonight. more on that seven-day forecast ahead. >> also on 7, a crew rushing to the rescue. after a tugboat starts to sink in the harbor. three people were rescued as it went under water. jennifer egan live in east boston where she spoke with one of the men rescued jenn. >> reporter: all three men on that tugboat are okay. a little cold after spending time in the chilly waters. it turns out the captain of this boat has known one of the men he rescued for many years. >> he's the man. we wouldn't be here if it wasn't for joe. >> my pleasure. >> captain doug richmond thanking his lifelong friend for saving his life this morning after his tugboat sank. >> we heard the emily anne call

>> reporter: he was the captain of the boat two miles off of the shore of winthrop. three -- >> we were about a half mile away. i could see his lights. the lights went out. and i could just -- the sun was just breaking the sky. i saw the tug -- the silhouette, and then it was gone. >> reporter: one of the men was in this life raft. the other two were in the water. the strobe guided in help. >> i got down in the water and just pulled them out. they didn't weigh anything. it was just -- like, come on. >> reporter: the men didn't have on survival suits just a floatation jacket like this one. >> again, what it's designed to do is just keep the torso out of the water so your lower extremities are still in there. >> reporter: they were only in the 37 degree water for a couple of minutes, about you any longer and the captain of the tugboat says they may not have survived. >> very quick, it's very sudden,

several inches of ice and frozen pipes and damaging homes. >> there's nowhere for my water to go. if i run my kitchen sink, it comes up through the floor. >> my car was literally frozen in the ice. i didn't even open up the little shed there because i have a harley-davidson in there and i'm hoping that's not frozen in it. >> with today's warmer temps, beginning to melt. and right now, it appears without any issue. the city met with engineers yesterday to ae assess what more can be done. >> the only relief they're going to get right now is basically keep that tide gate closed to prevent more water from coming in here. >> with the gates closed, people will cause more problems. >> with the incoming rain, i'm worried this will still come up and flood the area and if they don't allow the gate to go back open and allow it to come back out. >> reporter: basically they want to make sure there's a back up

to make sure there's a way to manually close them in case it ever happens again. news. >> michael mccarthy is scheduled to make his first court appearance since he pled not guilty to murder last month. the judge ordered him held without bail. two-year-old bella's body was found inside a bag you were didded on deer island last june. she was known as baby doe for months while police searched for her identity. her mother is charged with covering up the murder. >> a man is under arrest after a hit and run in auburn and police say he is repeat offender. investigators say this man, scott tatro slammed into another car on route 20 and drove off. time. this is the 6th time this worcester man has been arrested for driving under the influence. the 17-year-old, meantime, who is accused of drag racing before crashing into this home in

lost control of his car drove over several lawns then crashing into the garage causing all of that damage. he and two teenage passengers had to be treated for minor injuries. >> a funeral being held today for kaitlin clavette who was killed in the accident involving that manhole cover. clavette was on the way to work on friday when a manhole cover became loose on i 93 and crashed through her windshield. she was an elementary school art teacher in milton. she was 35 years old. >> new details this noon now, pope francis's sex abuse commission says all bishops must report all cases of sexual abuse to police even if local laws don't require it. this is echoing a statement by boston's cardinal sean o'malley who says they have a moral and ethic responsibility to report suspected statements of abuse to authorities. it comes after says it's only up to the families and victims to

goes up to 45 degrees as you go up in elevation a little bit. where we do have mild air circulating, across the pike and southeastern mass. not only sir passed the 40s, but well into the 50s. 57 degrees in foxboro. contending with some showers, a couple of showers rolling through the weston to, all the way back into hopkinton, jogging off to the north very quickly and couple scattered showers off to the cape. nothing particularly heavy at this hour. that's a different story west of the city. you see this huge sign of showers, even embedded thunderstorms with this. this all has to work through later on this afternoon and into this evening. really between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. as the height of this storm, the strongest wind gust and some of the heavier rain fall amounts coming out of it. pretty good chance of down pours during the evening commute.

if you're headed out between 4 and 8 p.m. do expect torrential rains maybe a few rumbles of thunder and then after 8:00, it. where as unfairly quickly, in terms of the winds diminishing and begin to dry out. tomorrow morning, back to partly cloudy skies. partial sunshine through the day. temperature tomorrow in the 40s, not too tough to take by february standards, especially after the cold weekend we had. quick half an inch, with down pours later this afternoon and into this evening. otherwise, not expecting a lot of lingering issues overnight tonight. temperatures falling back below freezing, some of the bigger puddles may freeze on up. 26 to 34 overnight tonight. and that rain will taper off and clear skies out overnight tonight. partly sunny, nice day, 42 to 48 degrees is the range tomorrow. gusty wind, certainly see that later on this afternoon. more on that over to danielle.

we have a high wind warning in affect for this yellowish here until 10:00. the beige areas also under a wind advisory until 10. so these areas could see wind gusts anywhere from 50 to 60 miles per hour. we could see trees down, power could be disrupted as well. here's your wind timeline as we head into 5:30 tonight for your commute later on this afternoon. this is really when the winds are looking like they will be the strongest, they're out of the south, gusting close to 60 miles per hour on the cape and right around 40 miles per hour in boston. as we head into dinner time, there's still very strong but dying down a little bit. as we head into the overnight hours, start to turn westerly and start to taper off. the good news, by tomorrow morning, they're really calm. as quick as this system is moving in, it's going to move out, too, ha, chris? >> it is. that's why i do expect some sunshine for tomorrow. and dryer conditions. tomorrow into thursday, not

control on i 95 and smashed through the cement barrier. >> the driver survived this crash but now police are looking for answers. 7's alex has more. >> reporter: in pieces it sits under the lights below in miami where it landed after plunging off i-95 monday evening. it happened as he was travelling south on the i near the southwest 7 street exit. >> the truck break into the railing and it was surprisingly loud. >> reporter: he had just finished playing basketball at the park. the sound of the truck breaking through the concrete barrier attention. >> you just see the -- the truck falling in midair and it felt like it was in slow motion, felt actually hit the floor. >> you know when you hear landing on dry land, kind of like that, like there's an explosion. >> reporter: at least 100 foot vehicles. the cab broke apart prosecute

absolutely wild story here. 14-year-old basketball player is recovering after a freak accident that happened in the middle of the game. >> the wisconsin girl fell and was stabbed by a floor board. for this one. >> now quiet field house was filled with confusion sunday afternoon as a player went flying into the floor and couldn't get up. >> the officials said, what do you mean, are you hurt, and she said, there's a piece of wood stuck to me. >> the 14-year-old wisconsin court. the board had split in the middle and stuck into the young player. her mom, the coach was quickly by her side. >> it was 3 to 4 inches long and in in some parts probably between a quarter of an new hampshire inch deep. >> minutes later, emergency crews showed up and everyone asked to leave the gym. >> we thought they were going to have to remove the entire board and take the board to the hospital. >> they didn't have to do that, but the 18-year-old was loaded

started the car and then you roll down the windows after the car is warm inside and the window will actually go down and then you have a sheet of ice sitting there and i just started poking the ice and breaking it that way, versus trying to scrape it off. it was a tough scrape, you really had to approximate out a little bit of elbow grease into scraping it off. 51 in worcester, 48 in boston, 44 in lawrence, we've lost that cold air, if you're fortunate enough to sleep in this morning, you wake up in the city of windshield, right. as temperatures surge close to 50 degrees. we have a wind that's going to be surging out of the south, southeast, eventually to the southwest. right now that wind is gusting about 25 to 30 miles per hours. at times see it gust close to 50 or 60 for a few hours. evening. you compare the numbers, temperaturewise, versus this time yesterday. and we're 30 to close to 40 degrees above where we were at lunchtime yesterday.

the house and when bod dowitz and his wife arrived home, he got in bed with her accused of lying on top of her. >> he also did on multiple occasions grab and or slap her but, one time even getting into bed with her. >> court paperwork, says the girl shoved him off of her. years. his attorney told the court, he only found out about his summons to court on saturday, after a member of the media reached out to him for comment. he said he was unaware until that point. there was even a police investigation accusing him of indecent assault and battery. >> i have no comment at this point. i have not even seen the report. the only reason i knew about it was because of you folks. >> reporter: the firefighter entered a not guilty plea, the judge released him on own personal recognizances. >> right now, police aring on the look out for a man, last seen outside of a popular boston

he was last seen outside the bell in hand tavern just before 2:00 saturday morning. but when his cousin went out to meet him a short time later, he was gone. his family is desperate for answers. >> i've got two kids. i love dearly. and one of them is -- i haven't heard from. >> police are checking surveillance videos in the area to help try and find mar. >> a family in and dover is happy to be back home safely after a scary moment during a weekend moment to new hampshire. the couple had their baby daughter with them when a mechanical problem trapped them on the tram way over the sky. >> i don't think i will forget this weekend request for a long long time. >> reporter: a terrifying turn when this tram comes to a sudden stop.

ipswich 2.5 inches of snow. we just weren't falling on the ice out off boston. a lot of way to warm up. down into the teens and 20s in a lot of the suburbs. we had that snow last night. transition over to freezing rain and had that later over on top of that snow. and melting that fairly quickly and melting quite a bit of it, close to 50 from boxford, tyngsborough, a little cooler here at 38 degrees. relative pockets of relative cooler air, but overall, seeing marked improvement from where we were earlier today in terms of temperatures holding close to the mid 20s and a lot of ice issues north and west of boston. mid 50s down from foxboro to west bridgewater. the wind gusty at times, 35 to 40 miles an hour these gust s

more showers in the air, had some breaks across eastern mass. this morning. now yielded back to cloud cover. a couple of showers, heavier snow showers, in newburyport. doesn't last all that long. scattered showers across the mass. pike to worcester right now. lighter showers through 4:00 in the afternoon. and this wall of water that you see down across new jersey and even embedded thunderstorms, strong gusty winds has to swing through 4, 8:00, that's really the time. here's a look at 5:00, we're in the thick of it, with the gusty winds and downpours in time for the evening commute. there will be a slow go for the evening commute and dry out after about 8:00 and really clear out after midnight tonight. do expect quiet times back in the forecast for wednesday morning. there may be a patch or two of black ice first thing tomorrow morning, temperatures falling back below freezing but nothing like what we saw earlier this morning. about half an inch to an inch, quickly dropping right near the
