blast over southern new englandnd things will quiet down later on this evening and sit the table for a quiet day tomorrow. mix of clouds and sunshine and no arctic air behind this weather system. we'll talk more about the remainder of the we're following breaking news out of stoughton where a man is in custody following an armed carjacking. this started in brockton where police say the suspect forced a mother with an infant child to give him her car keys as she was trying to put the child in a car seat. the suspect took the car. the child luckily was not inside the speak. the suspect crash mood a pole and then ran away. that's when police were able to tackle the suspect who is now in custody facing several charge. we're going to continue to follow this and have more for you on 7 news at 5:00. a shrewsbury court. the veteran firefighter is accused of getting into bed with a 15-year-old baby-sitter

>>reporter: this is the court paperwork right here for a charge of indecent 15 assault and battery. this officer has been placed on paid administrative leave from the fire department. >> no comment at this at this point. have i not even seen the report. >>reporter: sha rusesbury firefighter sean bohdiewicz leaving court. he's charged with inappropriately touching his 15-year-old baby-sitter. >>reporter: the baby-sitter said he watched his two young children for months. police say she reported a pat hearn sexual behavior that was unwelcomed and gone too far. the baby-sitter was sleeping over the house. when bohdiewicz and his wife arrived home, she got into bed with her. the girl allegedly had to shove him away. >> did touch and grab and or slap her butt, at one time getting into bed with her.

afternoon he's on paid administrative leave. >> pending the result of an investigation to be conducted by a fire chief. >>reporter: his attorney says in an e-mail to seven news that bohdiewicz was blind-sided by the allegations. the town manager says he's never had to discipline this firefighter before. live in worcester, john cuoco, 7 news. a man appearing in court today accused of threatening to blow up brockton hospital. he's pled not guilty to several charges. police say he went to the hospital saturday night to be treated for a face injury, but while he was there he allegedly told workers he would come back with a bomb strapped to himself. he's also accused of assaulting two hospital workers before police arrived. the suspects in a moose poaching incident is now under arrest today in westfield. police took several items from the home including this rifle which she believe was

moose. charges have been filed against the suspect in both states. a senior living home catching fire last night leaving residents displaced. 46 senior citizens from the fire complex in dorchester are now without a home. fire officials say an electrical short was to blame. an officer is sent to the hospital after crashing his police cruiser in west roxbury this morning. police say the officer slammed the cruiser into a van on washington and lagrange streets. right now there's no word on the cause of that crash. and we're following more news today. a garbage truck taking a dangerous drop in miami, flying off the highway and smashing into the ground below. the highway horror started when the driver lost control smashing through cement driver. the driver survived the crash but now the police are searching for some answers. >>reporter: in pieces the garbage truck sits under the

it happened as the driver was traveling south on the i near the southwest 7th street exit. >> the truck break into the railing and it was surprisingly loud. >>reporter: he and his friends had just finished playing basketball at the park. the sound of the truck breaking through the concrete barrier immediately drew their attention. >> to see the truck falling midair, it felt like it was in slow motion. >> kind of heard like that, like an explosion. >>reporter: in the at least 100 foot ball, the garbage truck landed on several vehicles. the cab broke apart from several of the truck that contains the garbage sending a plume of smoke across the rock. pieces of the falling concrete pierced the roof of the pool building across the park. amazingly the driver survived. >> making sure we had no other victims. >>reporter: no one else was

because schools were closed for presidents day and the park was filled with children. >> thank god that there weren't any kids here playing and got hurt. at the end of the day, the driver is a very lucky guy. >>reporter: the driver is lucky but the question for the florida highway patrol is what caused him to plunge off the highway. a scary scene on a pennsylvania highway. eight tractor trailers and three other vehicles collided. authorities believe a tractor trailer jack-knifed causing the chain reaction crash. they say three people were taken to area hospitals. there were no serious injuries. >> they told me nobody's killed so which is really, from what i've seen, i'm all shaken up, but from what i've seen, it's a miracle. >> nearly a dozen tow trucks were on the scene there. fuel also spilled and had to be cleaned up. drivers in ohio got

two gas stations got into a price war and that meant drivers filled up for pennies. >>reporter: a gas war in ohio, one that start offered accidentally but left several drivers happy. >> i've never seen anything like this. it was wonderful. >>reporter: gas prices stood at just 49 cents and by 4:00 a.m. cents. now the clerk says the dropping prices were the cause of a computer malfunction, a glitch that prompted the gas station across the street to get in on the action. they dropped their prices to to just 17 cents and someone even had a receipt reading out at a penny per gallon. the clerk from across the street said it wasn't a mal function, they adjusted their prices to compete leaving customers to compete.

a credit card and experts say it's virtually flawless. it could be worth about $20 million. >> you could put it on your finger. it would take up the whole finger. >> i don't think my ring finger is the length of a credit card. what an amazing treasure to find in the natural state that perfect. unbelievable. let's talk a little bit about the weather because it's really nasty out there. the rain is pushing through as we speak. >> we've got rain for the next few hours. thankfully it's a relatively skinny weather system here. it's really starting to dry out, hartford, bridgeport and new york city. the dry air punches up into metro boston but up fortunately, not for the next couple hours we have a mess on your hands. 128, the pike, route 3, as well as 93 north and south, route 3 south.

it's all over eastern new england. even a couple of heavier downpours and even thunderstorms south of the islands. here's nantucket right there. that's martha's vineyard, buzzards bay for perspective. there may be winds that try to gust over 45, 55 miles per hour. perhaps even a few rum believed of thunder. we're on the warm side of the weather system. last night to start the storm, that's why we had the snow, sleet and freezing rain and then it parked itself on the backside of the storm center, the cold air did. that's where the winter precipitation is right now. it is fast-moving and it is out of here as we work through the early evening hours. by 8:00 we think the radar is going to look like this. still a couple of lingering downpours out towards chatham and wellfleet. storms gone tonight and we start to clear things out. with the rain comes the wind. winds gusting between 35 and 45 miles per hour.

a couple of 37. i can't imagine the wind warning would be much yard 7:00 because once you take rain out of the equicks, you limit the opportunity for that stronger wind to come out of the cloud with the rain for the wind gusts. we'll monitor it for you. certainly the next two to three hours we'll have winds gusting 40 to 53 miles per hour. the city at 52. many locations in the south shore mid to upper 50s with even some humidity out there. there is the power house storm that quickly moves out of here this evening and it does cool off but it's not like arctic care is ready to come pouncing back into southern new england with a flash freeze. that won't happen. it will cool off late tonight. i do think some communities for an hour or so get close to 32 tomorrow morning. it's not like it's going to be a skating rank for you tomorrow morning. tomorrow itself, some quiet weather for a few days, mix of clouds and sunshine.

long island is doing some amazing work. he's sold bracelets and baked goods. >> and so far he's raised thousands to buy service dogs for vets. >>reporter: 13-year-old matt knows when it's like to navigate around life's obstacles. >> my brother's blind. eye. >> when i had brandon 24 years ago, they said there's a million and one chance it would ever happen again, so when i had matthew and it happened again, it was a complete shock. >> it makes a lot of things a lot harder, but really you have to work through it and do the best you can with what you got. >>reporter: what he also got was a big heart. the seventh grader is on a mission. >> everyone has their own form of a struggle and any way you with make that better, you want to help. >>reporter: he started selling bracelets and baked goods at school for nickels and dimes and

he's raising money to pay for service dogs to help veterans with post combat disabilities. >> a way to get a lot of the stress and hardships away from him. >>reporter: guide dogs are free for recipients but it costs $50,000 to raise, train and place these pups. >> get no regular government funding. >>reporter: big brother brandon, an independent college student it, hopes to have his own guide dog one day. >> a cane is a piece of metal with a tip on the end. it doesn't tell you much. a guide dog tells ten times as much. >>reporter: matt hopes his fund-raising will transform lives. one service dog at a time. >> matt has already raised almost double his original goal. and ahead on 7 news snow as inspiration.

are all one of a kind. >>reporter: from the death of the frigid vortex of a minnesota winter comes the giant snow octopus and it has taken over the family's front yard. >> a lot of kids driving by and their parents will drive by and they will be in the back seat like mom, stop. >>reporter: for knife years the barts brothers have been turning the stuff many of us dread into wintery works of art, always with a watery theme because they love to fish. these boys have created everything from a puffer fish and walrus to a sea turtle and a shark. this year's octopus is the most ambitious yet, 500 hours to complete and a tentacle that winds over mom and dad's front steps. >> it's really really cool. >>reporter: folks come from miles around for a peak and a pick.

and we're seeing the impact of the system from new england all the way to south florida. also breaking tonight a hit and run arrest. lowell police say they've tracked down the driver who ran down a teenager on a bike. also breaking a woman found dead in a malden apartment now the center of a police investigation. >> i got down in the water. >> the crew of a tugboat goes under in boston harbor. tonight we're hearing from those who came to their rescue. and a scary situation on a high school basketball court. the freak fall that kept a player from getting up. now at 5:00 heavy rain wash ago way those frigid temperatures along with any snow that's still left on the ground. today we climbed up into the 50s and because of it we've seen a big meltdown. >> that's right, with the warmer weather parts of the state will be dealing with some drenching downpours, also coupled with those high winds. this is a big system that impacted all towns down the east coast.

to florida today. the state now saying strong storms, two tornadoes recently had been confirmed. let's get back over to meteorologist jeremy reiner with a look at what we're dealing with here. >> rain, downpours and perhaps even a few rumbles of thunder as the line of rain moves through and reports of thunder up in the shirley area. this continues to move northeast at 35 to 45 miles an hour. the timing is the worst part. 5:00 and here we are, skyes have opened up. stoughton through the bridgewater area, middleboro, this is going to cross the city of boston and end up on the north shore. also because it's so elongated it will sweep up. as extend even farther south, this is where there may be some thunderstorms trying to form here. this might be a developing qual line so there may be some rumbles of thunder and more importantly there
