to florida today. the state now saying strong storms, two tornadoes recently had been confirmed. let's get back over to meteorologist jeremy reiner with a look at what we're dealing with here. >> rain, downpours and perhaps even a few rumbles of thunder as the line of rain moves through and reports of thunder up in the shirley area. this continues to move northeast at 35 to 45 miles an hour. the timing is the worst part. 5:00 and here we are, skyes have opened up. stoughton through the bridgewater area, middleboro, this is going to cross the city of boston and end up on the north shore. also because it's so elongated it will sweep up. as extend even farther south, this is where there may be some thunderstorms trying to form here. this might be a developing qual line so there may be some rumbles of thunder and more importantly there

with this storm, power house storm. part one was last night with a mixed precipitation and now part two, the back end of the storm system. it is the rain and it is the wind and also the warm temps. winds gusting 45, close to 50 miles per hour. plymouth adpufta 47 miles per hour. look at worcester, we do have the high wind warning in effect right now for winds gusting between 40 and 60 miles per hour. the rain and the wind will both move out of here pretty much the same time, between 7:00 and 8:00 p.m. and then it will start to cool off. look at these temps in the 50s. the city at 52. norwood at 57. there's your storm system it quickly moves out of new england over the next three hours and then skies will clear out overnight and things will quiet down. an armed carjacking in brockton comes to a crashing end in stoughton. now a man in custody. police say the suspect forced a mother with an

her car keys as she was trying to put her child in the car seat. the suspect took the vehicle. inside. state police tracked down the car, started chasing it. the suspect crashed the car into a pole and then ran away. police were able to tackle him about 30 seconds later. the suspect is now in charges. we're staying on top of the story for you and we'll bring you we get them. police investigating the death of a woman in malden and it has neighbors pretty nervous understandably. kelli o'hara live in malden with some more breaking details for us. >>reporter: good afternoon, adam. people around here very concerned about the possible homicide of a woman living right next door. >> yeah, you never hear anything like right around here. but you never know. it's very scary. >> well, it's unsettling. makes me want to keep my lights on at night. >>reporter: neighbors alarmed about the death of a woman in malden.

anything out of the ordinary, didn't see anything but it's a for something like this to happen so close to home, you know. >>reporter: police got a call around 9:00 monday night to check on a woman living at the cliffside commons apartment complex off route 99. when police got there, they found her body inside. police haven't said who she is or how she decide. >> it's scary. you don't think of something like that happening so close. >>reporter: the district attorney's office says when they get more information they will release it. anyone with any information as to what happened inside this woman's apartment, asked to call police, asap. kelli o'hara, 7 news. there's been an arrest in a hit and run in lowell. the 15-year-old who was run down on his bike friday remains in the hospital. police say he was targeted and tonight they have a man in custody.

nick emmons live for us in lowell with the very latest. nick? >>reporter: the middlesex county district attorney's office and lowell police office announcing the arrest earlier this afternoon. the man taken into custody is a 21-year-old man from lowell. this occurred on lawrence street in lowell. the 15-year-old was suffered serious injuries. police say someone in the suspect's truck had an interaction with the victim before the incident and police believe this hit and run was intentional. police say this investigation is ongoing and the suspect will face numerous charge in court tomorrow. meantime that 15-year-old victim is still in children's hospital recovering from those injuries. we're told he is in stable condition. that's the latest live in lowell. nick emmons, 7 news. now to some breaking news from logan. a delta flight if manchester, new hampshire to new york is diverted to boston

the airline says as the plane approached jfk international this afternoon, there were strong winds, low visibility and the flight had to turn around and it's proven to be a long trip for the people on board. they were stuck in manchester overnight. their flight was diverted yesterday because of weather. passengers say they had to wait while customs agents from maine came up to the airport since manchester doesn't have customs. also on 7 a scare in boston waters, three men on board a doomed tugboat. their vessel started sinking in frigid waters and now they are talking about how grateful they are that someone heard their call for distress. jonathan hall live for us in east boston with the rest of the story. >>reporter: as you can see, the weather is pretty awful out here right now. this morning it was not so bad. the waves were not too high and yet a tugboat suffered a mechanical problem and sank. three guys ended up in the water.

>> i got it hooked up. be out there as soon as i can, doug. >>reporter: maloney and his co-worker saw the boat sink as they made the mile long trip. one young deck hand in this life raft, the other two in the water. >> i didn't even feel their weight at all. it felt like i was picking up a jacket just one arm on to the deck. >>reporter: but they have no idea why she sank. >> we weren't really too concerned about it. we were trying to get our friends out of the water. >>reporter: and captain maloney saved the crew of a lobster boat and got a coast guard commendation for it. jonathan hall, 7 news. and the woman killed by a flying manhole cover in boston is laid to rest. family and friends gathered to say good-bye to the milton elementary school art teacher who died on the way to work last friday. her car was hit by a

driving down i-93. she was just 35 years old. governor charlie baker talked about the state's investigation. >> this is an unbelievably random and incredibly unusual experience that happened here. i would like to know how a 250 pound manhole cover could have gotten that high up in the air. >> and so department of transportation crews ion expected more than 9 hunneman hole covers and grates over the weekend. authorities continue to try to determine what caused the cover to come lose. and 7 news now turning to the nation's capitol and a show of respect on the supreme court bench. block wool has been draped over the courtroom chair of late justice antonin scalia. the flag flying on the court's front plaza will be flown at half staff for 30 days. the late justice will lie in repose in the supreme court on friday. his funeral will be held

a painful play on a high school basketball court in wisconsin. a 14-year-old was impaled by part of the floor board and when she went down, she was stuck on the splintered wood. >> officials are calling this a freak accident. sarah french has video of this dangerous dive.

rhyme or reason to this one. >>reporter: a now-quiet field house was filled with confusion sunday afternoon as a player went flying into the floor and couldn't get up. >> she's like there's a me. >>reporter: the 14-year-old wisconsin heights player was impaled by the court. the board had split in the middle and stuck into the young player. her mom, the coach, was quickly by her side. >> it was three to four inches long and some parts of it between a quarter and half inch deep. >>reporter: minutes later emergency crews showed up and everyone else was asked it leave the gym. >> we thought they were going to have to remove the entire board and take it to the hospital. >>reporter: they didn't have to do that. none of her internal organs were hit by the wood. he's especially surprise it had happened here since the floor is just 15 years old. for now a replacement

downpours, even a few rumbles of thunder. a band heading up towards the new hampshire sea coast. you head back into metrowest, worcester hills. that is the caboose of the weather system right there, so that will begin to work into downtown boston within the next 30 to 45 minutes. farther south, route 24, route 3 south. this is nasty stuff here. looks like some twizzler string here. that's where we're having some heavier showers and downpours. might have winds gusting between 45 and 50 miles per hour. it's a storm that's behaving like you would find in the spring or early summer with this little squall line right here. this is working through buzzards bay. this will work across the cape. wind could gust over 50 miles per hour. we have a high wind warning in effect for coastal new england up until about 10:00 tonight. once you move the heavy rain out of new england, then you've removed the risk of the strong gusty winds as well because the rain is actually helping to bring down

the cloud and so once that rain starts falling like it is back through springfield, hartford and new york city then you kind of have that disconnect between where we are and the clouds. big storm last night part one of the storm was the snow, the fleet and the freezing rain. now part two is the rain and the wind and the warm temps. holy cow those temps really jumped into the 50s. winds gusting between 45 and i saw a gust out of worcester 46 miles per hour. there's wind energy to be had whether you like it or not. occasionally between 40 and 60 miles per hour. and look at the temps compared to last night at this time. about 35 degrees warmer than where we were. norwood 57. plymouth at 55. there is cooler air on the map but it's not like arctic air is going to come racing back in here and we have a flash freeze. if you didn't get to that sloppy slush on the steps, you have time tomorrow. temps slowly cool off between 32 and 37.

at 5:30, armed carjackingn brockton leads to a chase and a serious crash in stoughton. right now police say a suspect is in custody. >> officers say that suspect was targeting not only a mother but also her baby. police say a taughten man stole a mother's car in the parking lot of the westgate mall in brockton today. they say she was putting a baby into that car seat when the suspect point aid gun at her and demanded he guff her the keys. he left with the vehicle, baby as not in it. that's good news. police were able to track him down seconds later. officers found this gun thrown into the snow close by that vehicle. the suspect is now facing multiple charges and is in custody in brockton. and more breaking news, a delta flight from manchester, new hampshire to new york is diverted to boston because of rough weather. there was strong winds and low visibility because the flight was turned around. this is the same flight that had to land in
