at 5:30, armed carjackingn brockton leads to a chase and a serious crash in stoughton. right now police say a suspect is in custody. >> officers say that suspect was targeting not only a mother but also her baby. police say a taughten man stole a mother's car in the parking lot of the westgate mall in brockton today. they say she was putting a baby into that car seat when the suspect point aid gun at her and demanded he guff her the keys. he left with the vehicle, baby as not in it. that's good news. police were able to track him down seconds later. officers found this gun thrown into the snow close by that vehicle. the suspect is now facing multiple charges and is in custody in brockton. and more breaking news, a delta flight from manchester, new hampshire to new york is diverted to boston because of rough weather. there was strong winds and low visibility because the flight was turned around. this is the same flight that had to land in

the weather. heavy rainstorming in. the bay state set for a super soaker. taking a live look outside right now in saugus. sheets of blinding rain really coming down on route 1 and it's not just the rain. powerful winds are moving this system through fast. a soggy saugus and lots of other towns. ryan schulteis standing by with -- meteorologist jeremy reiner standing by. >> that heavy plume of rain working up the north shore out on to cape ann as well as the new hampshire sea coast. you see this right here, and red. within there noticing some very heavy rain, ponding of the water on the roadways likely happening at this time. allow extra time on that evening commute. and this will quickly move through here over minutes. as we notice back england already beginning to dry out. this is a squall line that may be capable of

over 50 miles per hour. that is the other thing about this storm system. there's a lot of wind energy for this storm. so the latest wind gust near 40 miles per hour gusting close to 40 miles per hour. metro boston, south shore, even down through buzzards bay and out on the cape. that will be a concern for the next couple of hours and portions of western new england. still some left over wind energy out there. we have the high wind work there. sea coast as well as south shore, south coast and the capes where winds will continue to gust between 40 to 50 miles per hour. could lead to power disruption. but it is a warm evening. temps right now in the 50s. last night at this time teens and 20s. boston 52 right now. worcester at 52. it is a powerful system. it is moving very fast. so this rain doesn't begin to move out of here after 7:00 p.m. and events will settle down and tomorrow. tomorrow' forecast in a few minutes. and that wild

florida and creating a path of disruption. ferocious winds ripping apart palm trees and really hitting hard. this is all part of that same system that jeremy was just talking about. this evening there are people cleaning up from that storm. vanessa medina has more on the aftermath. who turned out the lights? >>reporter: this dash cam video shows the ef-1 tornado forming. you can see it growing in size. anthony then drives real close to it. you can see people breaking, then the debris begins flying, hitting his car. his thought drive away and fast. >> you start to see the funnel start circleing. >> there's a lot of wind, a lot of blue flashes of light and trees started coming down everywhere.

the trees in front of their home fall crashing to the ground and >> first i heard the alert go off on the iphone thing and then i was like is that a tornado warning and i looked outside and i saw let's get inside our closet. >> it was a tornado. >> the national weather service canvassing this parking lot just off of kopans. this warehouse district just off of dixie highway at 25th place shows huge pieces of the roof missing. tiles scattered throughout the parking lot, major damage. this is next door to corolla santana's busy. >> my roof, everything down. >>reporter: she was inside her car when the tornado moved through. >> you see the metal. you think you're going to die.

up, people recovering from this tornado. reporting in pompano beach, florida, vanessa mediumenna, 7 news. a revere melting, rising water is creating even bigger problems. nicole oliverio has a closer look. >>reporter: a revere neighborhood thawing out after record cold temps damaged homes with ice and flooding. >> mechanical issues like this happen, you can't prepare for this. >>reporter: sunday's freezing temps caused a flood gate to remain stuck open. when high tide hit, it pushed sea water in the streets. the water flooded and quickly froze over leaving some homes filled with several inch es inches of ice and frozen pipes. >> i run my kitchen sink, it comes up

>> my cow's -- car's literally frozen in the ice. i didn't even open up the shed there because i have a harley-davidson in there. i'm hoping that's not frozen. >>reporter: right now it appears without any issue. the city met with engineers yesterday to assess what more can be done. >> the only relief they are going to get right now basically is to keep that tide gate closed to prevent more water from coming in here. >>reporter: people who live nearby wonder if that will just cause more problems. >> with the oncoming rain, i'm afraid this is going to come up and still flood the area if they are not allowing >>reporter: the city says it's going to prepare its recommendation to see give it to basically they want to make sure that there is a backup plan because the gates are automatic to make sure there's a way to manually close them in case this ever happens again. in revere, nicole oliverio, 7 news. a shrewsbury fighter feeling the heat in

his 15-year-old baby-sitter. prosecutors say he made inappropriate comments girl. john cuoco joins us in worcester with more. >>reporter: we learned as of this afternoon that firefighter has been placed on paid administrative leave pending an point. report. >>reporter: that rusebury firefighter -- shrewsbury fighter and his attorney seen leaving court. court documents say the baby-sitter watch bohdiewicz's two young children for months at his home in auburn. police say she reported a pattern of sexual behavior that was unwelcomed and wet too far. >> did touch and grab and/or slap her butt. >>reporter: of bohdiewicz and his wife arrived home, he got

allegedly had to shove him away. his attorney said in an e-mail to 7 news that bohdiewicz was blind-sided by the allegations. he's worked for shrewsbury fire since 2008 but as of tuesday afternoon he's on paid administrative leave. >> town manager says he's never had to discipline this firefighter before. live in worcester, john cuoco, 7 news. 46 senior citizens forced out of their home by a fire. crews working at the fire at the senior living home in dorchester last night. fire officials say an electrical short was to blame for that fire. a man appearing in court today accused of threatening to blow up a brockton hospital. police say he went to the hospital saturday night to be treated for a face injury. but while he was there, he allegedly told

back with a bomb strapped to himself. he's accused of assaulting two hospital workers before police arrive. a suspect has been arrested for a moose poaching incident. state environmental police took several items from the home including this rifle which they believe was moose. the incident happened last month in vermont. the largest medical massachusetts is open for business. patriot care in lowell celebrating their grand opening with a ribbon cutting today. the facility will service patients in lowell and middlesex county. patients will be able to look at different products before any sale is made. the ceo described how an appointment would look. >> when a patient comes in, you'll have a one on one interaction with your sales associate depending on the symptoms you're trying to treat as a patient. we will help you find

ben and jerry's is ditching the cream in its newest dessert line. the company is creating a line of vegan ice cream. it's made out of almond milk and coconut oil instead of the traditional milk and cream. the company said it wanted to create an ice cream that lactose intolerant and vegan customers could also enjoy. the store should have the ice cream in the next two to four weeks. you know that coconut oil is in a lot of thing now. i jumped on the band wagon. >> i did too. >> i put it on hot oatmeal. the more you know, viewers.

last thing you probably wanted was ice cream but today warmed it up a little bit. >> i had iced coffee over the weekend. i did 24/7/365, even with record cold. an ice cream, absolutely. we had warm air and humidity as well. i tell you what, a warm, humid day like today will really chew up that snow. you left this morning, thought i'll shovel that when i get home from work. it's gone, sweet. mother nature helped you out. plume of heavy rain now east of the city in boston. still some steady rain to contend with for the next 45 minutes to an hour. it does break up a little bit there and that's the leading edge of the dry air. that eventually does work into the city about 7:00. this is a squall line and this is capable of generating winds gusting over 50 miles per hour. also some very heavy rainfall. it's the storm system really that's trying to behave more like a spring storm than a winter storm.

here. we're on the cold side of that storm last night with the cold, the sleet and freezing rain. and then for several hours today, really much ado about nothing. kind of a whiplash here with the heavy rain and wind. back towards western new england it does quickly dry out with skies beginning to clear back toward new york as well as new jersey, metro new york city. that works up into new england later on tonight. right now the wind is also the concern again with the winds gusting between 40 and 45 miles per hour. we do have a high wind warning in effect. until 10:00. i would imagine the weather system peals away at the backside of this as that heavier temps at this time in the 50s unreal. we were down to 10 to 15 below on sunday morning. through portions of new

a long island teen going above and beyond to help veterans injured in combat. despite his own disability, he's partially blind, the 13-year-old is determined to give back. >> he's making a difference and raises thousands to provide veterans with guide dogs. >>reporter: 13-year-old matt knows what it's like to navigate around life's obstacles. >> my brother's blind, i'm blind in my right eye. >>reporter: the result of an inherited condition. >> when i had brandon 24 years ago, they said it was a million to one chance it would ever happen again, so when i had matthew and it happened again, it was a complete shock. >> it makes a lot of thing a lot harder but really you have to work through it and do the best you can with what you got. >>reporter: what he also got was

pop the question. 7 news at 6:00 starts now. first at 6:00 boston a little under the weather this week. we're up against heavy rain and wind right now. tonight's round of wet weather just adds to an already messy situation. >> and that's because we're also dealing with a meltdown of all of that snow and ice we had up until last night. temperatures topping out to well above 50 degrees. how much longer will this rain stick around. jeremy reiner with a check on your forecast. i say another one to two hours. here's the back edge. we have seen the heaviest rain move through. still some steady rain for the next 45 minutes and the heaviest rain just now leaving cape ann. chatham as well as well fleet and truro and province town. you see this red line right here. we haven't noticed any lightning but with that

heavy rain and winds could be gusting close to 50 miles per hour as that squall line rips across the cape. as you step on the other side of that still some locally steady rain happening right now, cape ann, north shore, city of boston. but then in the metrowest that's when it does begin to taper off to just some patches of drizzle and clouds. fast-moving weather system meaning there's a lot of wind energy out there as well. winds are an issue gusting between 40 and 45 miles per hour. whether that squall line came through falmouth we did have a gust of 50. we do have the high wind warning in effect for another couple of hours and it is warm. temps right now in the 50s. the city at 54. norwood at 56. thankfully the arctic air does not race into new england tonight. we'll talk more about that coming up. we're following some breaking news right now. an armed carjacking ends after a dramatic crash started at the westgate mall in brockton.
