first test out west. long lines, delays in start time, all part of the nevada caucuses today. as we learned in iowa, the caucus process more complicated than a primary. the big turnout making things a little slower. hillary clinton, the winner in that contest. polls had her and bernie sanders neck and neck heading into today. but hillary clinton able to part of her post-iowa and new hampshire fire wall. from first in the west now to first in the south. back here in south carolina, donald trump led polls coming campaigning. movement. a cnn orc poll released monday found half of republican voters solidly committed to one candidate. that could be good news for marco rubio, who is looking to bounce back from a disappointing fifth-place finish in new hampshire. on wednesday, he secured the endorsement of popular south carolina governor nicki haley. for ted cruz, tonight's results will say a lot about his campaign strategy going forward. his plan, especially for super tuesday on march 1, is targeting states that look a

heavy on those evangelical republican voters. a wide gap between him and donald trump would put that strategy in question. the republicans here tonight are vying for 50 delegates. south carolina polls, they close in less than one hour. south carolina has a tradition since 1980 of picking the eventual republican nominee. the only time since then they have missed in 2012 when they chose newt gingrich over mitt romney. now back to you. >> all right, karen. thank you. stay with 7 news as the poles close tonight. we will have the latest from both side at 10:00 on wc 56 and right here on 7-nbc at 11:00. >> we are following a developing story. a raging fire breaks out at an abandoned mill overnight. this is in fall river. right now, crews are still there putting out hot spots. this took firefighters several control. >> now crews are investigating what sparked the inferno. we are live from fall river with what we are learning tonight.

still on scene here putting water on the mill. >> you take a look behind me, you can see the building is still smoking. it will be for the next couple of days because this fire was so big. an old mill along weaver street in fall river torched overnight in a massive fire. the enormous orange flames lit up the early morning sky, giving off intense heat. >> the radiating heat, getting enough water to protect these buildings. obviously, the heat coming off here, not as hot on the building. it is hot on the men trying to apply the water. >> someone called the fire in around 3:00 on saturday. crews on scene work to stop the fire from spreading to other buildings in the area. it took firefighters about three and a half hours to contain the flames. over the summer, the same mill caught fire when it was hit by lightning. right now, firefighters say fbs it's too early to know how

>> it could be another couple of days before investigators can get in here. to get a better picture of what happened at this mill. live from fall river, 7 news. >> and there is more news today. an intense fire-fight takes a tragic turn. this is in natick. a 73-year-old woman killed after being rescued from the flames. the state fire marshal is fire. kelli o'hara is live with what we know right now. kelli? >> we are told an off-duty fire lieutenant on his way to work here this morning, spotted the smoke and flames and called 9 11. crews were here immediately. but by then, it was too late. >> it's horrible. >> it was a lot of smoke. we didn't see flames. there was a lot of smoke. >> fire tearing through the second floor of this natick home early saturday morning. the smoke and flames so intense, it claimed the life of the woman living inside. the state fire marshal says a 73-year-old passed away hours after firefighters rescued her.

held on bail. another man also arrested in connection to the crime, the victim was treated for his wounds and is in stable condition. >> also in new hampshire, police arrest a man in connection with arson. investigators say house was set on fire yesterday. police arrested the man in connection to the crime. the investigation is still ongoing. also on 7: a former fairhaven high school football star f in some hot water. accused of leaving the scene of an accident that seriously injured two people. police say he tried to cover up his dangerous drive with the help of his mom. >> tonight, one person still in the hospital in critical condition. as that driver faces serious charges. 2012. a star football player for fairhaven high school today, on a much different playing field. new bedford district court. accused of a hit-and-run that left a woman in critical condition. >> she was dragged for 25 feet.

>> it happened two weeks ago. at 2:00 in the morning on this stretch of road. in fairhaven. 50-year-old terrence hope was walking home from a bar with a friend. 40-year-old christine machado. when police say they were struck by a car. the driver never stopped. >> why wouldn't you stop if you hit somebody if what would you be hiding? >> the car ended up in new bedford at glassman auto. prosecutors claim the defendant's mother, christine pyers began a cover-up, claiming the car was damaged by a tree. the owner didn't buy it and contacted police. . >> i was looking at the car. like i said, i just knew this wasn't a tree branch. there was no doubt in my mind. >> authorities obtained text messages from woman's phone, revealing a mother worried about much more than car damage. on the night of the incident, her phone googled the term fair haven, massachusetts, hit-and-run. revealing the story posted on a local news web site. >> what kind of parent raises their child to leave two bodies on the side of the

>> what a day. a spring tease. these temperatures really went above and beyond what i expected them to yesterday. we got bright sunshine through the bulk of the day. boston actually made it up to a high of 60. just eight degrees shy of the record for the day. you think about last weekend. a cry from what we were dealing with last weekend. now, we have been gaining daylight. i have been mentioning this for the last couple of days. the sun angle is getting higher. so it's warmth from the sun you can actually notice and the temperatures were able to benefit from that today. current temperatures, 50 in boston. as well as worcester. 54 in bedford. 52 in norwood. it was a little cooler for cape cod. staying in the 40's today. you see these showers trying to push in for us. it is almost like there is a wall that is blocking them northwest of 495. we have some dry air in place. and so it really will take a lot for those showers to overcome that dry air. this cool front is in response to that system that brought us

although this is a weak cool front. paging through the in the overnight hours. it doesn't do a whole lot for our temperatures tomorrow. it still is another mild day to enjoy tomorrow. it does push in a few clouds overnight tonight. and also again tomorrow as well. partly cloudy. for tonight and tomorrow. but again, i mentioned those mild temperatures still with us. 34-40 for overnight lows. then tomorrow, most locations topping out right around 50 degrees. still ten degrees above normal this time of year. again, partly cloudy skies to enjoy. then late tomorrow night, and early monday, a system tries and it could bring a few rain showers, possibly rain-snow mix to the south coast. i give it about a 20% shot. it is really this system for the middle of next week that we have all been talking about. and recent forecast models are pushing that track farther to the west. the response would be that it's warm and wet for us. more wet than white. it doesn't even look like a snowflake on my 7 on 7 forecast. so hopefully, that pleases
