the first shots came at 4:57 and 26 minutes later three people in the plant are dead along with the shooter. and this is a man most people describe as pretty calm. >> a gentleman, his name is adam, he got shot. >> reporter: victims loaded to ambulances as first responders rushed to help people in need. it happened at excel industries in kansas. there was a man shot in his truck and another in the street and a scene in the parking lot of excel and in the plant itself a horrible incident. >> i saw people running and i'm assuming fire, and i take a few steps and hear a pop, pop, and i'm thinking paint cans for something. and more people running, pop, pop, pop. the shooter was an employee, and they didn't have nor information about a motive or how long they was working there. police shot and killed him in the plant. for hours the area around excel

on fire. a massive mansion destroyed in an intense inferno. >> jadiann: power flames tear through the huge newport mansion the nightteam's kelly o'hara is live in news port with what investigators know about the cause of the fire. >> reporter: good evening, what tharked this blaze is a mystery and sefr hours after the firefighter-- and several hours after the firefighters got here they are say they will be here all night. a historic home up in flames. >> it is just like it went like that. and the thing started to collapse. i heard a couple of pops. they were like small explosions. and you could hear they will crack and as soon as as something cracked it fell over and went into the house, you con get close to it.

news they got the call about 4:30 this afternoon in, and flames sparking on famous newport's bellevue avenue. the $3.4 million estate was under construction. christian winter runs a website and says these mansions are a parts of local history. >> these huge estates were used for six to 8 weeks a year, which is rate astounding. you have homes here with a hundred bedrooms and they were their summer cottages. >> reporter: no one was in the home at the time and by the time firefighters got here it was too late. >> no bringing this house back. it was gone. >> reporter: back out live, in newport, where you can see the fire is still burning and firefighters say they will be out here all night until they

>> adam: attorneys for philip chism making a last-minute request before his sentencing tomorrow. his lawyers went before the judge today, asking him to limit the number of victim impact statements he hears. the judge sided with prosecutors, saying there will be no limit limit. he was convicted of killing his math teacher colleen ritzer. the state wants him to serve at least 50 years in prison. a 3 five-year-old matthew scialdone pled not guilty for drug charges. he headed for treatment after his drug hearing today. funeral frustration, a family's efforts to honor their mother after she passes away taking a troubling turn. they needed help and they called solve it 7.

several of the popular devices caught fire and exploded across the country. transits systems in new york and l.a. and chicago have banned those hoverboards. >> adam: to the wild weather now. up the eastern coast, dramatic rescue in new york. the storm causing a coast guard investigate dole capsize. so the crew was trying to help a fishing boat crew, and everything took a terrifying turn. a fishing boat geting into trouble off the coast of new york. some water washing over the rail >> reporter: early this morning the fishermen on board did all they could and couldn't stop the 74-foot boat from running aground. they over time, floated and this is where they ended up grounded. >> coast guard was called in but what started as a row continue rescue turned into more trouble. the rough waters were though match for a ship september to help and its capsized in the waves. first, five coast guard members with tossed in the water but
