tv   Today  NBC  July 28, 2016 10:00am-11:00am EDT

10:00 am
this morning on "today's take," nick cannon shows us his wild side and you know what? anything can happen. then the game show that gave us the behind the scenes tour. what is "jeopardy!"? plus, two-time grammy winner colbie caillat performs her new single live. all that coming up right now. >> announcer: from nbc news, this is "today's take" live from studio 1a in rockefeller plaza. >> hey, everybody. welcome to "today" on this thursday morning, july 28th, 2016. i'm hoda kotb along with jenna. al, tamron and willie are all in philly at the democratic national convention. we'll check in with them in just a couple of minutes. for our morning jam, in honor of one our guests who has so many hits, colbie caillat.
10:01 am
this is her song. >> what is it? >> i don't know. >> what's the song? anybody? >> "falling for you." >> she's awesome. colbie caillat has more hits than you know. she's going to play -- >> all of her songs have such a good spirit to them. >> a message for kids, for young girls. she's awesome. we'll have her later in the show. have you ever beenth you're going to a party. it's supposed to be a great night. you can't wait. something happens before you leave the house with you and your husband or you and your boyfriend and you get into an argument and then you have to go to the party because you're already going. you're committed. >> so the reason why we ask this is that apparently chrissy teigen and john legend got into the biggest fight at kim and kanye's wedding. >> what happened?
10:02 am
performed, i think. he performed that sexy song of his. everybody is saying, isn't he so amazing? isn't he amazing during his performance and she was like, no. she also doesn't b.s. >> no, i love it. >> have you been on the car on the way to the party -- >> either in the car or at the party actually. i was at the party once when i was married. i remember it was miserable. it to fake it. >> yeah. >> and they're like, he's so charming. and i'm going to get a drink right now. you don't know what to do because you can't have your fight in public obviously. >> you don't want to be like he's actually not. i've been in the car. henry says it's hilarious. i'll say something like do you like my dress? >> something basic like that. why do we ever ask our husbands
10:03 am
he likes things. >> he does tell you when he doesn't like it? >> he ignores. yeah. you look fab. you didn't even look at me. and then we get into a little thing that doesn't matter and we get to the party and henry is so hilarious. you jerk. hi. thanks so much for having us. this is so fun. you can switch off. >> you can. it's almost like the job that we do here. you can be having a really crummy day or whatever it is and there's a moment where you just say not here. this is not the place for feeling bad, getting in a fight, making everyone else have a crummy time. sometimes it's hard to bite your tongue? >> yeah. >> it's hard sometimes. >> i think we're both usually more positive than negative. there's been days where i had one day where my dad wrote me the sweetest text. i was hugely pregnant. hormonal as can be. crying in the dressing room.
10:04 am
i read it to one of our friends. none of this matters. the children matter. love matters. and then they are like, now, you need to go out and talk about getting in a fight with your husband at a party. >> exactly. you know what, you're right. there are moments like that where you're either on the verge of tears -- i had this with kath a lot, too. you're at an emotional state in your life and you have to come and turn it on. and you do it. >> everybody does that. people that have to go to work home. they have to still show up. that's life. >> by the way, one time, this is not on this topic at all but it doesn't matter. i was racing to try to catch a plane and there was available time to make it. 5:25. the door was open. the guy that puts the bags on was there. the woman was at the computer. >> no. >> is there still seats here? yes. i said, can i get on?
10:05 am
my god, i'm here. the bag guy goes you can let her on. just hit -- no, i can't. right then when you're on the verge of exploding and you don't because it's inappropriate, the timing is not right. i was either going to cry and get mad. i said you could if you wanted. and then i walked away and got two bags of swedish fish, popcorn. i had hours to wait. and i ate my sorry. >> i did this with barbara. we were traveling. we got to the airport. any way we can get on the earlier flight? no. i burst into tears. i had my pump with me. my boobs were huge. i burst into tears. barbara is like are you okay? this is the difference of putting my daughter to bed or not. do you understand the difference? the woman was, like, i understand the difference. i can't do it. barbara was like, walk away. walk away. let's move on. it's been burning hot outside as
10:06 am
carson was sweating through his clothing under his blazer. >> hoda taught me to blow dry my armpits. >> yeah, we do that. >> he needed a fan. >> if you're really, really hot -- look at that. >> looks like a vest. that's sweat. >> that's a sweat vest is what that is. >> a swest. >> a if you like this french bulldog named elvis, you know how to cool off. take a look. >> cute. >> now listen -- >> that's a fridge. he's in the fridge. >> how many times have you wanted to get in the fridge. >> he kind of smiles. is he smiling? >> it's cold and wonderful in there. >> all right. any way -- >> don't put your dog or cat in the fridge. >> or your children. >> willie, al and tamron at the democratic national convention in philadelphia. tamron has the latest. hey, tamron?
10:07 am
good morning to you. a good crowd still hanging in here on the last day of the dnc but of course -- >> tamron has a number of marriage proposals. >> al roker is here. it's so hot the crowd has gotten rowdy. >> to be honest, a couple people say where's your husband and tamron said, i killed him. >> i was joking. for someone to yell out where's your husband, it required a sassy answer. this lady made me say hi to her husband. i guess i have a husband. >> we're told to move it along. move along. >> you took me off track. president obama last night took the convention stage and offered an optimistic view of the country, praising hillary clinton in his speech last night. here's one of the big moments. >> that's why i can say wi confidence there has never been a man or a woman, not me, not bill, nobody, more qualified than hillary clinton to serve as president of the united states
10:08 am
cake, hillary clinton walking out on the stage surprising everyone, embracing president obama there. also speaking last night, vice president joe biden giving a fiery speech. people are still reacting to it. he went straight after donald trump. >> he's trying to tell us he cares about the middle class. give me a break. that's a bunch of malarkey. this guy doesn't have a clue about the middle class. not a clue. >> of course the hashtag malarkey was trending. people truly had to google how to spell it. >> he went old school mularkey. during vice presidential nominee tim kaine's speech, he debuted what he had to be practicing for many days now, his donald trump impression. >> it's going to be great.
10:09 am
we're going to build a wall and make mexico pay for it. believe me. we're going to destroy isis so fast, believe me. there's nothing suspicious in my tax returns, believe me. [ laughter ] >> on a more serious note, kaine talked about his faith, being a missionary and importance faith played in his life and how he's governed as a lawmaker. tonight we'll hear from hillary clinton and her daughter mother on the big finale of the dnc. again, ladies, a great crowd. they've held up tremendously. but yet again, no food. what happened to my food, al roker? >> i wasn't in charge of catering. >> so they had milkshakes earlier today. i'm going to go in search of the milk shake ladies. we're both back here tomorrow in studio so we'll see you both. >> awesome. we look forward to it.
10:10 am
>> al, you have some weather to do out there? >> i think we do. >> we've got to talk about some severe weather actually and there could be flooding. you can see flood watches stretching from tennessee all of the way into the tri-state new york area. half a million people under a flood warning. we have 21 million people under flood watches. this system is going to have a low pressure area develop along it. heavy rain stretching from parts of arkansas all of the way into tomorrow. flash flooding possible. we're talking from new york city to philadelphia heavy rain. a lot of folks will have trouble getting out of philly tomorrow. look at these rainfall amounts. anywhere from 4 to 5 inches but locally could be upwards of 7 inches of rain in parts of the northeast. that's what's going on around the country. here's what's happening in your . >> chris: good thursday morning, >> good thursday morning everyone. once again all about the heat. lower to middle 90s.
