precautions to prevent mosquito bites. at the breaking news desk, ryan schulteis, 7 news. >> anchor: coming up, as we said, now 14 people inat thed with sihka in florida. we'll hear from all of those people about how sick they got and what is going on with them. so we'll have that for you coming up at 5:30. >> anchor: following breaking news a suspect in custody after leading state police on a high speed chase. chase started on route 6 today and ended in new bedford. sky 7 over the scene when that chase came to an en can see the police cars blocking in the suspects car on the road there. state police say it all started in rochester when the suspect was seen hitting his own vehicle with a hatchet. troopers say during the chase the suspect was waving the hatchet and a knife out the window. state police also say they found these weapons in the suspect's car. this etweeted out this picture today of two, an ax, fuel and a lighter. also breaking sky 7 hd over the mass pike where a tractor trailer was stuck in a u turn lane it.

exit 20 tolls in brighton. good news is that it's all cleared up now. >> anchor: we're following a developing story at the statehouse. governor baker signing a landmark bill into law requiring men and women to receive equal pay for equal work. amaka ubaka live for us from the statehouse. >> reporter: advocates of this law say massachusetts now has the strongest legislation in the country when it comes to equal pay so that women finally here is video signing that equal pay bill that law. this has been in the works for a long time and was a bipartisan effort among democrats and republicans in the house and senate. both parties voted unanimously in favor of it. this law strengthens already existing legislation getting massachusetts closer to equal pay for equal work. here is what the law accomplishes. it defines capable work for men

establishes legal protection for companies to conduct internal audits to review their penization practices and to fix them. here is sound from the female state treasurer deborah goldber. the signing of the equal pay bill is something that is a long time coming but is a critical it makes our families stronger, our state stronger and our economies thrive. wage equality is not just a woman's issue. it is a family issue. >> reporter: right new a woman makes 82 cents on the dollar what a man makes. advocates say this law won't change that but it's a critical step in the right direction. for now outside the statehouse,

>> anchor: officials in swampscott vetting a case of arson after this home went up in flames over the weekend. the man who police say set the house on fire was called to court today. attorneys say it's allinged it a messy divorce. kimberly bookman live in swampscott with more on the charges. kimberly? ther of this home is a carpenter and he actually built this house and on saturday police say he stood outside here watching as it was engulfed in flames and said look at it go. fire that ripped through this swampscott home saturday was intentionally set by the homeowner. police say 57-year-old timothy brosnan admitted it "when asked if he had connection to the fire. he said i did it. my wife is moving in tomorrow. his defense attorney said his client built the home but during recent gores proceedings he was told his wife would live in the house while they split the mortgage 50-50. authorities say he set the fire

to hand over the house. he has been going threw a difficult time in his life. it's the end of a 27 year marriage with three beautiful children. the defense said he has not taken responsibility for the fire and adds he was polite and responsive to police letting them know on scene no one was in the house including the family pet. he made sure even the cat was out of the home so if that doesn't tell but what kind of heart he has when it comes to living, breathing things then i don't know what el >> reporter: police on scene say he appeared to be drinking, he had bloodshot eyes and slurred speech and allegedly laughed as his house went up in flames. but for his longtime time friend who says he has never been in trouble before, it's all hard to believe. he is a very nice, kind man. he would help you anywhere, any time. he would do anything for you. so that's out of character. >> reporter: the suspect is being held without bail pending dangerousness hearing on

wife took out a restraining order and he is ordered to stay away. reporting live from swampscott, kimberly bookman, 7 >> anchor: a maryland town's away after flash-flooding this weekend. two people killed and at least 100 people had to be rescued. you can see how committee that water is from the video. heavy rain caused that river to rise and rise fast. the flash-flooding being called the worst area has seen and at least a half century as maryland's governor now declares a state of emergency. >> anchor: a kay of cleaning up digging out and taking stock of the damagemaryland saturday knit a month's worth of rain turned main street into a raging river which swallowed everything in its path. cars, buildings and people a nearby river rows tterf minute. people died, wept away in the flood more than 100 rescued. people waving horror unfold jumped into action.

spiraling down a street and then some. you saw it flip several times before finally coming to a rest upside-down. i mean, there is just debris everywhere. looks awful. officers rushed in to pull the deliver out of the car. >> anchor: officials say it was a miracle no one else was hurt. we couldn't pull them out of windows because the car was crashed. >> anchor: this tumbling crash shows the frightening moments when bystanders ran toward the wreck trying to save the drivers life as sm mangled sedan. people came over with fire extinguishers, put out the fire. we flipped the car back over, pull the guy out so he didn't burn alive. i start pulling him out and another guy probably about my age helps me. we pull him out of the car. then cops and paramedics did their job and took over the rest really. >> anchor: rescuers rushed the driver to a hospital by helicopter. officials say he had head trauma when his car lost control first

well as southern maine. there is ipswich, rochester out of the way, manchester, new hampshire, webster, meredith so this activity slides out over the waters doesn't bother us but i wouldn't mind if it bothered us. we do need that rain. metro boston clouds, yes, no rain. few showers and some rumblers have been moving out of new york state but as they slide east into this somewhat cool air they fall apart because those showers and downpours they like the hot, humid air to sustain themselves. and they can't find any in our part of the worldp in a shall with a 68, the city at weak little area of low pressure will wobble across new england tonight and that will keep the chance at least of a few isolated showers so i'm telling you there is a chance of a shower or two but what we really need is a day long rain or two or three of those but not happening not in the cards. that little weather system fades away do you remember the day tomorrow. wednesday we'll have mostly sunny skies, comfortable the temperatures on wednesday, upper 70's to around 80. high pressure will move to the
