there is new more excitement than we added an extra half hour to our morning show today in new england so starting on monday, you can catch all of the highlights and headlines so our morning show instead getting us started at 5:00, it's going to start at 4:30 in the morning for all your olympic updates plus overnight breaking news, weather and traffic. >> anchor: and we are following some breaking news right now. a former fbi eight accused of lying about his role in mobster whitey bulger's case now sentence he did plead guilty to a number of charges. kelly o'hara live in south boston with the breaking details. >> reporter: he plead guilty to a total of 12 charges but won't serve any time behind bars. his attorney said he wants to move on with his life. 76-year-old robert fitzpatrick walking out of federal court hand in hand with his wife minutes after being sentenced for lying to the feds. like i told the judge, you know, i would rather not say anything right now. you just want to move on with your life?

>> reporter: fitzpatrick pleading guilty for not being honest with his relationship with whitey bulger in the f.b.i. prosecutors telling the judge that the former 20 year veteran of the f.b.i. lied for decades not only to the government but to the public saying he was a whistle blower in the bulger case and lied under oath. they say he also tried to take down the convicted killer and stop the f.b.i.'s corruption. prosecutors say that simply just wasn't the case and fitzpatrick was just trying to boost his own celebrity. outside of his career anything anything you would want to say to bulger victims who have been very upset about this whole ordeal understandably. my actions as an agent i think said a lot. >> reporter: are you glad the chapter is over? yes. >> reporter: your family can go home? yes. >> reporter: in addition to the 24 months of probation he will pay more than $13,000 in fees to the government and one

witch-hunt by the government. in boston, kelly o'hara, 7 news. >> anchor: following a developing story out of chicago right now where the police department there has delayed a news conference about a deadly officer involved shooting. after protestors stood in front of the podium the chief was told he must resign in light of the shooting an 18-year-old black man. the chief eventually walked back inside. this comes after chicago police released body calm video showing parts of the shooting that ended in a death of 18-year-old paul o'neill. today a close friend spoke behalf of oh neal's grieving family. protestors or people that want to see change takes us one step back when we want to make one step forward. this is one of those times. >> anchor: an attorney for the family said the actual shoot something not shown in the footage released by chicago police. >> anchor: still to come this evening, an explosion that brings down a connecticut home with several people inside. investigators are trying to figure out what went wrong. >> anchor: then ahead at 5:30

say connecticut community shaken after a house explodes then collapses with 7 people inside, four children under the age of 16. so rescue crews arrive. they found three people outside and four more trapped in the rubble. they say the victim's injuries vary. one of the children had to be treated at a local hospital and was released but the other three hurt remain in the hospital, all with serious injuries. neighbors are describing what they saw and heard there yesterday. >> beginning was like picking away debris like the front porch used to be and he could hear him so at least we knew that they were okay. >> anchor: investigators are still trying to figure out what caused that explosion. >> anchor: following the race for the white house, roller coaster of a weakeneding with new questions about beth candidates. their trust and honestly.

the littlic zone. find out which u.s. team is keeping nerves down with a little singing in the car. >> anchor: first at 5:30 we are staying on top of breaking news. sharks cited off the coast of the cape feasting on a dead whale. there have been reports of as many as six shark in the truro area. >> anchor: now three beaches of are closed and it could stay that way for a little while. kim khazei has breaking dea for us. >> anchor: the coast guard received a report that up to six great white sharks were spo whale so they are focused on the food but they were spotted just fours miles from the shore, look at this video here of the whale carcass and there is one shark feeding on it. it'sdowner time, time to eat. that's what they do and that's their hole. the carcass has now washed up on the shore in authority truro. sky 7 hd flowing right above the beaches just moments ago and look, wouldn't you like to have a spot on that beach? nobody there on this very hot day and that's because authorities closed some of the beaches just to be safe because

so they have closed the following beaches. it's noon's landing, beach point and cold storage. you see there on your screen very nicely spelled out. those beaches could stay closed until sunday. the advice here is for anyone in the area be vigilant, be cautious near the water and please report any shark sightings to police. at the breaking news desk, i'm kim khazei, 7 news. >> anchor: officials dealing with another kind of animal trouble in we they wrangled a six foot alligatorment police say someone there was keeping the gator as a pet so they got an anonymous tip that the nearly 200 pound reptile was in someone's backyard when they showed up. that's what they found. zoo officials talked about how they managed to grab that gator and take him to the zoo. couple of snare poles we had one around the back end and one around the front end and then we just picked him right up. as long as he didn't roll we were fine and then we just put him in the back of our truck and
