>> anchor: first at 6:00: we are in the olympic zone. the olympic flame burning bright tonight in rio de janeir s.a. goes for gold. some members of team u.s.a. posting big wins today. >> anchor: despite the natural beauty of the host weather was causing some trouble on the second full day of competition. let's get to trey daerr for >> reporter: american athletes showing their medal in day two ofti. we start with serena williams. the defending olympic champion in women's tennis. williams is a four-time medalist at the games. winning three other gold medals in doubles with her sister serena. taking on the australian sunday. williams dealing with high winds during match. high gusts knocking over barricades, damaging some of

first check of the forecast. >> bri: yeah, nick. enough cold air aloft today to pop some of the puffy cumulus clouds. some of those cumulus clouds were able to drop a quick passing sprinkle or a quick shower. it didn't last for long or amount to much. 95 to 98% of us didn't see any rain-drops today. we stay dry for the next couple of days. the next chance for some storms and some showers in the forecast doesn't arrive until wednesday. that will also be a significant day because that's when our dew points increase. the humit for now, though, we will continue to enjoy this very dry air mass. you can see those dew points in the 50's for us. low 50's, at that. very dry air. that is in place for us. current temperatures, they say this is comfortable warmth without the humidity. mid-80's all across the board. 6 right now in boston. 80 degrees in worcester. 84 in norwood. we were flirting with 90 today. we will boost things up as we head through this week. comfortable for sleeping overnight tonight.

with lots of sunshine around. we will get to the extended forecast come in a few minutes. >> anchor: bri, thank you. a disturbing message left on a skate ramp in tewksbury. police searching for the vandal who wrote the words "kill cops." have police managed to make any arrests? >> nicole, not yet. they are hoping to do just that. as you mentioned, it really is a disturbing message. and it was written in this public park. a place where so many children come to play. very seriously. they want to track down whoever is responsible. kids enjoying a sunny sunday afternoon at livingston street park in tewksbury. but it was some disturbing graffiti earlier in the week that has created a dark cloud. >> it said "kill the cops" in red marker. >> reporter: somebody wrote that on a ramp in the skate park back on august 3. police are taking it very seriously. >> we are putting out to all patrol officers to be careful,

>> reporter: parents also concerned about the scary message that was written where their children play. >> if it is little kids out doing it or even somebody else, you want your kids to come and play. >> it is a horrible thing. you know, i have a three and five-year-old. it is kind of scary, what's going on now. to have it done so close to home, it's unfortunate. >> reporter: tewksbury police tweeting out a picture of the vandalism, hoping somebody saw something that night. officers want to track down whoever wrote it. >> we are hoping that your audience comes and maybe someone saw something. or even heard something. because if it is kids, a lot of times they like to talk to their fellow kids and usually, it gets back to an adult eventually. >> reporter: that message was written on the ramp right there. the good news is they have gotten rid of it. they have painted over it. so that message is no longer there. the deputy chief told me that he would love for the person who did that to come on in and

that person, find out why they feel the way that they do. and why they wrote that message. that is the latest live here in tewksbury, kris anderson, 7 news. >> anchor: in worcester, a stray bullet hits two women sitting on the porch. we are live in worcester tonight with more on the investigation. and how these women are doing. >> reporter: well, nick, police don't believe that these women were the intended target at all. you can see behind me that the bullet actually went straight apartment. today the suspect or suspects are still on the loose. worcester police are asking for the public's help after two women were hit by a stray bullet as they sat on a porch inside this three-story apartment building. >> it was three shots. report tht man lives on the third floor. he says he heard the gunshots. >> bam, bam. really loud. >> reporter: police believe bullet pierced the wall to the second floor porch. hitting a 52-year-old in the

the bullet went through her and then grazed a second woman. >> this sort of thing happens a lot in worcester these days. and it's sad. you know, because you can't be safe. there are so many children in this neighborhood. there is a park right down the street. >> reporter: police don't know what the motive is for the shooting. they don't believe these women were the intended target. no suspects have been identified so far. >> he is very scary. because you never know if this can happen again. >> i'm actually pondering whether or not they should be coming back very scary. >> reporter: now, we are told by neighbors that that 52-year-old woman that was hit in the lower leg is still in the hospital. both women are expected to be okay. if you have any information on this shooting, you are asked to give police a call. for now, we are live in worcester, 7 news. >> reporter: boston police arrest four men and take three guns off the street in roxbury overnight. officeers say the suspects

k-9 units later recovered three loaded guns, allegedly thrown away by the men. on just one station, the pilot who pulled off this rough landing talks about that emergency landing. so this small plane was missing a wheel. tonight that pilot talks about the heart-stopping moments as he brought the plane back down to the ground. kelli o'hara is in beverly tonight. kelli, he has quite a story to tell. >> oh, an amazing story. hard to believe. but it did happen. he said he had only had his private pilot's license for a few hours. only had gotten it recently. teaching people up in the air. all of a sudden, this emergency occurred. he was flying high over his beverly flight school on saturday, teaching one of his students. something went horribly wrong. >> a thousand, a thousand 50, i start hearing a noise. a sound like boom, boom, boom.

engine not running smooth? i thought it was actually the engine. >> but it wasn't. the 0-year-old says one of the wheels from his landing gear somehow came off mid-flight. that is when his instincts kicked in. >> yes. everyone gets afraid. but getting afraid, it will make the situation worse. >> reporter: with prayers and a lot of practice up in the air, the 30-year-old got ready for the landing of his life. airport in the piper. he says he knew because one wheel was gone. he had to go slow and let the wind work for him. that is exactly what redid. you can see him approaching slowly and the plane landing safe. and sound. despite that missing wheel. and 24 hours later, this pilot is back at work. counting his blessings. >> this is my lucky day. i'm actually going to fly for another day. >> reporter: that pilot was

>> anchor: the athletes are focused on going for gold. rio de janeiro is home to breath-taking views and beaches. and 7's nancy chen, boy, she had the tough assignment here and got to take a tour of the best the city has to offer. >> anchor: must have been difficult going to all those gorgeous spots. she shows us why rio is one of the cultural centers of south america. before the games got started, i got a chance to check out what the city has to offer. vibrant colorful and lush rio de janeiro is one of the cultural centers of south america. and i got a chance to explore some of the city's most iconic sites. first up, christ the redeemer. one of the 7 new wonders of

high over the city to. get there, you have to take a train that cuts through the forest. providing some jaw-dropping views along the way. then it is a steep climb to the top. 200 steps later. and we are finally here. the view is supposed to be one of the best in the city. mother nature, however, had a different idea for our visit. getting up here isn't easy. but it's worth it. christ the redeemer is the largest art deco statue in the world. an in for a country of brazil. what really takes your breath away on most days, though, is the view. rain or shine, you can't leave without snapping a touristy picture. from there, it was back down into the city itself. rio is a city of passion. and that's evident here on the steps. named after the artist who reconstructed them as a tribute to the brazilian people. at first, the neighbors mocked him for covering the steps in the colors of the brazilian flag. but he continued on, selling paintings to raise money to do

then visitors from all around the world started donating tiles and now there are more than 2,000 of them from more than 60 countries around the world. it is not easy work being a tourist. we take a break to hit the sand. there are beaches. and then there are beaches. no visit to rio de janeiro would be complete without a trip to copacabana, one of most famous beaches in the world. known for its perfect sand, perfect waves. its perfect way of life. that coconut, by the way, was delicious. they cracked it open for me right at the restaurant. it was very refreshing. in rio, nancy chen, 7 news. >> anchor: i really wanted to see her with the hat with the fruit on it. at the beach. right? another great beach day for us tomorrow. dry heat on the way for us. we will get to the forecast coming up next. >> reporter: coming up next in sports, yet another yankee set to retire.

>> anchor: newbury street transformed into a pedestrian zone today. the transformation is all part of fast one-day event called restaurants were able to move their sidewalk seating to the street. people were able to walk around without any traffic. and this is the first time, obviously that, we have ever seen anything like. that this makes it much more accessible for the pedestrians. i don't know where people parked. >> anchor: when you are walking down newbury street, there are a lot of people looking around. it can be tough to navigate through there. nice to see the openness. >> reporter: great day for it.

upper 80' for most of us. we keep the humidity low. for now. you will notice that bit there. we do heat up this week. our next storm chance arrives on wednesday. looks like wednesday is also when the humidity surges back in here. and it just sticks around through the end of the week. in fact, another heat wave could be in store for us. now, for today, we did see those puffy cumulus clouds. moving through the area. some of them were able to build up enough to bring up a sprinkle or shower to some areas. most of d when we say a 10% chance of showers or storms, it is saying 90% chance that it won't happen. also 90% chance that you won't see it. i get it. if you saw it, you got 100% chance. most of us, again, staying dry. we didn't have the humidity today as well. 5 is our dew point in boston. i say anything less than 60 comfortable amount of moisture in the air. we keep it that way. not just for tomorrow. but also as we head into tuesday as well. current temperatures in the mid-80's.

out of the west, northwest. anywhere from 10-15 miles per hour. so this is a refreshing breeze. out of the southwest, for the cape and the islands, keeping those temperatures a little bit cooler off the relatively cooler ocean waters. tonight, mostly clear. it is very comfortable. you get a dry air has in place like we have. you get the cool mornings. followed by the warm afternoons. and that is the case for tomorrow. we start in the mid to upper 50's in most locations. and then we warm back into the 80's for tomorrow afternoon a light wind out of the west, northwest again tomorrow. highs tomorrow, i even think this is undercutting it by a degreel or two. look tagt mid to upper 80's for most of us. as we head into tomorrow. i say again, confidentable warmth. this is how we like it. this is a summer stunner. the humidity is in the comfortable level with the dew points in the 50's. this surges back in here wednesday, thursday, stibing around through the end of the week. looks like into next weekend, we could have another heat

foxboro with more on the much-awaited return of julian edelman. alex? >> reporter: yeah. no doubt, trey. it was a great surprise here at practice today. see julian edelman in full pads. he is off the list. even better news, to see him without the contact jersey. edelman joked and said" hey, red is my color." he acknowledged it was great he got on out there in full pads with his teammates, going through drills. howev, participate in today's scrimmage. he says this is the next step in his recovery. now, as we know, he started training camp on the list after undergoing off-season foot surgery. but right now, he says he is still day-to-day. >> you have to get your football legislation back in shape. you have to have this extra weight on. about 7 pounds. it is good to get out here and run around with the pads. and you know, just catch the ball with the shoulder pads. and the helmet.
