experiencing knocking down power lines that went on fire and this is page road which you can understand is now partially closed. so our extreme heat is the big trigger here. >> anchor: it is still down right soupy out. there chief meteorologist jeremy reiner has been track storms and what's going on right now? >> anchor: still monitoring that line of shower activity again. this is where we have severe thunderstorm warning that was initially for extreme southern worcester county. they kind of peeled that away but still northern rhode island, northeast connecticut under warning until 5:15 for this line of thunderstorm activity as it moves southeast. this is likely going to find a place in through portions of bristol county so you folks in bristol county, you are next. when this storm comes through, frequent lightning, brief, heavy rain, tropical rain because the air is just absolutely loaded with moisture have not seen a lot of reports of damaging wind but this has the potential to have winds gust over 50 miles per hour as this line of severe thunderstorm activity now and northern rhode island continues

minutes. there are other waves of shower and thunderstorm activity across new england as well as new york state. we had a little shower and downpour come through the route 2 corridor into the metro boston area over the last 30 minutes then we watched this next batch, which is now approaching albany, new york will hold together then head down the similar path of route 2 into metro boston, metrowest, worcester hills the effect two to three hours. temperatures right now all over the map because if you had downpours numbers knock back into the 70's and 80's, but there n downpours. the air is again loaded with humidity and it feels like 98 in boston, nashua feels like 102. we do have a heat warning in effect until 7:00 p.m. with the heat indexes what it feels like potentially up to 107. good news though, there is a cool front and northern new england that will temporarily lead to some relief for the start of the weekend but overall this is a hot and humid pattern. we'll talk more about the weekend forecast in a few minutes. >> anchor: following breaking news out of hyde park. a 7-year-old boy is pulled from

expected to be okay thanks to that lifeguard and a good samaritan. this happened at the olson pool on turtle pond parkway. that good samaritan performed cpr on the boy. he was rushed to children's hospital and is expected to make a full recovery. we spoke to the good march tan. we'll have a live report coming up. >> anchor: more breaking news. a federal court in wisconsin as overturned the conviction of a man profiled in the netflix documentary make a murderer. brendan dousy, the nephew found guilty of helping this man, his uncle, stephen avery, kill woman in 2005. today the court decided to overturn the nephew's conviction ordered him to be freed within 90 days unless the case is appealed. the court saying investigators made false promises to the young man. he was 16 when he confessed to helping his uncle. >> anchor: also on 7, a dramatic reaction from passengers tonight following a scare in the sky. severe turbulence forces a men out of logan airport to land far from its time destination. more than 20 passengers and the

>> anchor: the boston to sacramento flight diverted to south dakota after the trouble. dan hausle joins us live at logan with details. ewells passengers say they got some warning. well we're told to buckle up because turbulence was coming but nobody expected it to be this bad and some didn't buckle up. passengers saying that many of them were tossed around like rag dolls. passengers and crews september to the hospital after a scare in the air sends them flying through the cabin. damage inside the plane when people became projectiles. i went flying way up in the air and my laptop flew up in the air and there were stuff flying. i felt like i was in the tower of terror. we just dropped like that without a warning. >> reporter: jet blue flight 429 diverted to south carolina after the airliner suddenly plumbed. one passenger said the pilot told them they dropped 4,000 feet.

rapid city. we were in an elevator that dropped and actually hit the bottom. that's the force that it felt like. i thought we were going straight down. i was like we are about to die right now. this is it rhonda's mom hug a staffer at the hospital where two dozen passengers and crew were treated. we heard a bunch of screaming. i flew up to the ceiling, i broke the ceiling. they called for medical because some of the flight attendants were seriously hurt. one of the women hit the ceiling and actually ceiling. >> reporter: jet blue got most passengers to california about 8 hours later than scheduled but some i talked to were still in south dakota waiting for another flight. i am still kind of debating if i want to walk. or take a train or something. i don't know yet. i got plenty of tile of i have to go to sacramento. if anybody wants to pick us up, we're here. >> reporter: it turns out some passengers are a bit lucky to be treated on board by an

passenger turns out he was trained right here in boston, i talked to him. you will hear from him coming up at 6:00. live at logan airport, dan hausle, 7 news. >> anchor: a nine-year-old boy in boston who was missing now safe and found. his father already a suspect in a shooting under arrest. the child is reunited with his familiar low and the by's grandmother and aunt just spoke to 7's byron barnett. by ron? >> reporter: nine-year-old kelvin martins is safely back with his family after going through a harrowing experience through. we have some video to show you here. this is a video of kelvin being reunited with his family this afternoon. a little over 12 hours after police say he was near a shooting that involved his father. police launched an intense search for kelvin this morning. police say this frightening saga began last night when police say kelvin's dad, juan paolo was involved in a shooting in an apartment on blue hill avenue in

see the shooting. police say, police started serving for kelvin and his dad and finally found kill different at the home of his did's ex-girlfriend in dorchester. family members say they went over there and then an aunt pushed her way right past police to get kelvin because police did not have a search warrant.. she barged in and found hill. she pushed the cops out of the way and went in because they were just standing at the door. they didn't i h since she is not a cop she felt the need to go this because she knew he was inside. she had a feeling he was there. knowing he was there when all of this happened, how does that make you feel? i feel bad because i feel terrible because like i said i don't know if something happened to him.. >> reporter: how do you feel now you have him back? happy, emotional but i feel happy. >> reporter: police say the

in his early 20's, was taken to boston medical center with non-life-threatening injuries and they say kelvin's dad has now been located and arrested. as for kelvin himself, his relatives say he is okay but still a little traumatized from all of this. they say he misses his dad. they haven't told him that his dad has been arrested. they say they are waiting for the best time to do that. so that's the latest live outside boston police headquarters. i'm byron barnett, 7 news. >> anchor: new here at five:00 violations earlier this week. sweet green on boylston street had been cited for issues including food temperature and hand washing inconsistencies. and one customer said they got sick from being there. >> anchor: let's head into the olympic zone as we look forward to another big night in the pool. michael phelps hoping to continue his gold rush, but first a disappointing day for the u.s. women's soccer team. joe amorsino with more on their loss. real heartbreak for the

stops after arriving in rio. michael phelps last night further cemetarying his place in olympic history. phelps and teammate ryan lochte hit the pool for the individual medley in what many thought would be the last dual between the two syming legends. on the "today" show this morning lochte talked about his rivalry with phelps and dropped a bomb about a possible 2020 return. he brings the best out of me. hopefully i can say the same to him. you have created and that friendship it's, i am going to cherish it for the rest of my life. do you want to look in the camera and say michael, i will see you in tokyo? do you know what? i can definitely say that because i guarantee he will be there. do you really? i think so. i really think so. so michael, i will see you in tokyo. >> anchor: big news. another u.s. swimmer making history in the pool last night.

controversial comments he made. earlier he told supporters at two separate rallies that president obama is the founder of isis. >> anchor: today trump says he only meant it sarcastically. donald trump gave two thumb's up as he stepped on stage in pennsylvania. he told the crowd he used sarcasm when using president obama and hilary clinton co-founders of isis. so i said "the founder of isis" obviously i'm being sarcastic. but not that sarcastic to be honest with you to sliding poll number a poll shows clinton gaining support in colorado, north carolina and virginia. . she leads trump by as much as 14% in colorado using her tax returns clinton hopes to continue the pressure. >> anchor: he refuses to do what every other presidential has done and release his tax returns. >> anchor: clinton released her 2015 tax returns filing jointly

>> anchor: we do have a brand new severe thunderstorm that's from the same complex of thunderstorms but it's moving into a new location so that's why they issued the new warning. severe thunderstorm warning west central bristol currently in massachusetts. that's in effect until 6:00 p.m. for this line here right on the eastern flank of that line, this line of storms capable of frequent lightning, some brief, heavy rain and there may be winds that try to gust over 50 miles per hour, again it's a line of thunderstorm activity quickly moving southeast, moving through providence proper, see

of thunderstorm activity in the bridgewater area, even though in plymouth county there is no official warning in effect but we noticed a quick ramp up of lightning activity which sometimes is a clue to the atmosphere is starting to produce severe thunderstorms so this might be something that we watch with you folks in plymouth county. again, a line of thunderstorm activity, plymouth and bristol county moving southeast and this is not going to fall apart. the atmosphere loaded with instability in the sense of heat and humidity and we have these waves of showers and storms you didn't get the first round or second round, you still have a chance of getting a few more storms up until about 10:00 or 11:00 tonight. hot and humid, boston 98. that ties the hottest day of the year, of course back in late july when we did it the first time there was no humidity so this is about the heat and humidity. 15 days now in the city where we reached at least 90 degrees. right now 86 in town, nashua at 91. dew point temperatures close to 80 almost never see that in

leading to heat indexes or feels close to 100. we do have heat advisory and heat warning in effect until 7:00. any relief at all, anywhere, well, up along north of this cool front, yes, the air is cooler, berlin, new hampshire. this cooler air does come into new england overnight tonight and for tomorrow, especially er at the coastline so at the coastline boston 70's further inland near 80. lots of clouds, isolated shower tomorrow and then we are right back into the heat and humidity late afternoon hours showers and storm. see you with an update on thunderstorms. >> anchor: we look forward to, that thank you, jr. let's go back into the olympic zone and more on one of the games cinderella's stories. new england's own laura graves taking home a bronze in team dresage. she is a hairstylist and equestrian who almost didn't make it to the games. >> anchor: they have new hardware, nancy chen has more on

olympic games and laura graves, a member of the u.s. equestrian team has her fairy tale ending. she was an aspiring hairstylist who left her equestrian live in vermont and moved to boston. he was an unruly horse who couldn't be tamed. i was very adamant that i wanted nothing to do with this horse. and i just felt like i was treading water, you know, working so hard and getting nowhere. in 2008 laura graves was making ends meet by working at the express prudential center but after a few months apart, the 29-year-old knew they had to give their olympic dream within more shot. when you have a horse, another live creature that's also aging there is a very clear timetable. and so threw everything i had into pursuing this and making that happen. laura whose nickname is diddy have now been together for more than 13 years.

and team in rio, ranked 11th in the world. things have changed pretty dramatically in my life with this horse in the past two and a half years. we basically were just starting our career two years ago, in 2014 when we went to the world games, and now i find myself in sometimes a position of leadership going into this olympic year. a leap of faith that's created an unbroken bond. i mean, we have grown up together of we traveled all around the world a couple times together now. my case this one horse who always forgives you, is always looking forward to seeing you and you don't have to do anything particularly special to earn that from them. that's really special. >> reporter: a fun fact about laura. she first started riding after her mom and dad trade a washer and dryer for two two rio, nancy chen, 7 news. >> anchor: rhine lochte not only an olympic swimmer, he can also win a medal for his shoe
