>> showers and storms fade away and so does the heat. >> a day at the pool takes a terrifying turn in hyde park. a good samaritan stepping in to save a little boy. >> anchor: team usa the quest for gold. >> anchor: a snake scare in quincy. >> anchor: and the president getting a message. a little girl speaking her mind and calling for more fun. >> 7 news at 7 starts now. >> anchor: first at 7 our wild weather in massachusetts. lightning bringing down power lines in bedford. those power lines sparking and burning when a storm hit.

storms moved through that area. it's been really hard to be outside. and it is a hot and humid evening. >> anchor: conditions ripe for thunderstorms. jeremy reiner tracking these storms. >> reporter: several waives of showers and storms. most of the activity south of metro boston. a flash flood warning in effect for portions of providence and rhode island providence proper. taking advantage air. very heavy rain fall in the same location over time. the flash flood warn nothing effect until 9:19. no reports of severe weather. that activity has been weakening as it moves out of rhode island. metro boston we are monitoring one more batch of shower and thunderstorm activity. it may hold together.

to 2 hours. i think up until midnight tonight. this is all tied to a cool front which will try to cool us off overnight tonight and tomorrow. still feels like 92 in boston. beverly 95. we will talk about your weekend forecast in a few minutes. >> anchor: that tree came down over the road. kimberly bookman live in bedford with more what do you see? >> reporter: we are live in page road in bedford. 4:15 this afternoon lightning struck these power lines you see above my head here. at this hour you see that ever source is working to repair the lines and restore the power. this is a picture from bedford police after the lightning hit the power lines it caused live wires to fall on the road and burst into flames.

people described the sizzling fire on the hot ground as sounding like bees buzzing. fire fighters could put out the fire. neighborhoods along page road from francisicle toe broxby roads are without power. >> there was a lightning strike . we smelled smoke. my husband said something's burning down there. >> it sounded like almost like what i would earthquake would sound like. the power in the house went out. everything sounded like it exploded. it was really scary. >> reporter: certainly scary but everyone is okay. page road backs up to route 62 in bedford. it did cause traffic delays during the rush hour. everything seems to be cleared up. crews working at this hour to get the power back on. >> anchor: and we have breaking news at 7 a little boy rescued

good samaritans jumping into action. thank goodness. because their quick action saved the boy's life. >> anchor: amaka ubaka live in hyde park with all the details. >> reporter: ryan, the woman who rescued this boy said he was following another child to the middle of the pool where it says 4 feet 6 inches deep. when all of a sudden he panicked and went under water. >> i'm i'm no one's hero. >> reporter: nackia dean emotional after helping to rescue a 7 year old boy at hyde park. the pool had been cleaned when a group of kids jumped into the water. >> he was following someone to the middle of the pool. he realized it was deep. he panicked and started drinking the water. the life guard realized he wasn't breathing and he was in

>> reporter: the female life guard jumped in the water and brought the child to safety. >> i heard rotated she did compressions. i breathed i breathed she did compressions. >> reporter: ems arrived and took off. the 7 year old was alert and conscious. the quick thinking actions of 2 women saved the boy's life. >> i couldn't imagine him not going home tonight. that's all i could think about was him not g old is expected to be okay. he was taken to children's hospital as a precaution. live in hyde park amaka ubaka 7 news. >> anchor: now on 7. >> michael phelps is swimming away from everybody. >> finding gold yet again. >> being able to win 22 olympic gold medals is something you dream of. >> all the emotion.

swimmer he could win a medal for his shoe collection. we'll have that. >> anchor: passengers injured on a flight from boston to california. dangerous turbulence forcing an emergency landing. the extreme turbulence sent passengers and crew members flying all over the cabinet. some were taken to the hospital for their injuries. the turbulence forced the plane to land in success south dakota one flight. >> we were in an elevator that dropped and actually hit the bottom. that's the force it felt like. >> we were going straight down. >> i thought we were dying. >> anchor: jet blue says they were able to get most of the passengers to california 8 hours late. they are waiting in south dakota for other flights to take the passengers back. >> anchor: there is more news this evening the investigation into a murder mystery continues as police hunt for clues into

police tell us they've received more than 400 tips so far. brandon gunnoe in princeton to bring us the latest on the investigation. >> reporter: and her killer would have scratches and bruises. so far all the tips they've received that we know of have turned out to be dead ends. they don't want that to stop the public from calling in. da joseph early in princeton again today scramble to find the man who killed vanessa marcotte out on a jog on sunday. one of those focus on watch uset mountain where a man with cuts on his arm showed up with a woman on a motorcycle explaining they've been in an accident. with surveillance cameras rolling investigators were able to view footage where they determined that man had no

>> mountain has a video of him going outside and to the bathroom and dressing these wounds. >> reporter: any reason to believe this is connected to the murder of vanessa marcotte? >> no i don't believe so. >> reporter: he was shocked he was looked at in any way to the murder. investigators continue to work around the clock after announcing thursday they believe marcotte tried to fight off her killer. they are looking for saw a car parked and moving on sunday between 1 and 3 that they didn't recognize. if you know anything no matter how small here's that state tip line. car. the 27 year old father drove to his ex girlfriend's house with his son. the kids aunt took action. >> she pushed the cops out of the way and went in. they were standing at the door. they didn't have a search warrant. since she's not a cop she felt the need to go in. she had a feeling that he was there. >> reporter: police say the victim in the shooting has nonlife threatening injuries. as for he's okay but traumatized. >> anchor: sweet green on boil ston street cited for issues such as food temperature and hand washing inconsistencies. a representative from sweet green said they worked with the city's health department. and hired a food safety expert for that location. >> anchor: a slithery scare.

wildlife officials say it's a timber rattle snake. they're known to massachusetts. >> anchor: this snake creating quite the buzz. >> reporter: gives you the heeby jeebies a bit. they quickly called in a specially trained officer to take care of that snake. a woman who lives close by had no idea any of this was happening. a scary surprise in quincy. a close encounter with this rattle snake. stacey comb who lives there says she hadn't heard about it until a neighbor told her. >> i was in a house that had ac to keep cool. had no clue what was going on outside. right before you came i had a friend that sent a link. and i was watching the video and it was my house. little crazy. >> reporter: once quincy police confirm today was a rattle snake

come in and take care of it. >> it's rare that we find rattle snakes. they are there. we have them at the pine hill cemetery. >> reporter: quincy police chief paul keegan uncles our drought had to do with this scary situation. >> sometimes when there is a drought eastern timber rattle snakes come out of layers and where there's water. we had a drought coming to more populated areas. >> reporter: combs said she's glad she miss today. >> i will never be taking my trash out again. >> reporter: once the environmental officer got the snake under control it was transported back to its national habitat and release. >> reporter: she has an excuse never to take the trash out again. >> anchor: it has been a busy day in the weather department

storms peppered through this evening. the showers are adding more humidity to the air. we need the rain for the drought. the showers are tied to a cool front which has not shown up yet. boston 86. nashua 88. dew point temperatures off the charts. the high in boston was 90. back in july when it happened the other time the dew points were lower. this is a hot day and humid day. different than july. here is that it's a back door front. these things are public enemy number 1 in march april and may. this time of year they offer temporary relief. that happens tomorrow. it's a 1 day thing. the weekend features a wide range in temps. tomorrow not as hot. somewhat humid with a mix of clouds and sunshine. a lot of clouds at the coastline. temperatures tomorrow at the
