there is michael phelps, he is one of them. fellows falling just short in the 100 meter butterfly. despite that swimming stunner americans continue their dominance in the pool. >> anchor: and that star started with a world record machine. kitty ledecky leaving the rest of the field in the dust. the camera having to zoom out at within point to show the distance between ledecky and everybody else. nanny chen live once again with more on a successful night in the pool. nancy? >> reporter: hey there, kim and ad queen to you. the u.s. swim team showing their dominance in rio. mikhail fess earning another trip to the podium while kitty ledecky broke another world record. it's just ridiculous. >> reporter: out in front and all alone, kitty ledecky racing just the clock in the 800 meter freestyle. shatter a world record that she actually setback in january. she would have to wit a whole 11 seconds to find out who would take silver.

we're both fierce competitors and we both want to win and he is the hardest competitor i have ever had to go up against. phelps fiance say said she is not focusing on the future games just yet. i have to tread litly on this one because whatever i say he will be all right you said this. this is what is happening so we have to be careful. >> reporter: before his final individual race, phelps congratulated fellow swimmer who grabbed gold in the 200 meter back stroke. the 23-year-old rational wring in the final lap to be hungary's iron lady who was trying to become a four time gold medalist at the rio games. i can tell i was in the race at the end. i was just trying so hard to just get my tempo over and hit the wall. and i can't believe that just happened. >> anchor: and turning now it a heart breaking loss for team u.s.a. the u.s. women's soccer team went down in the quarter finals earlier today.

in the pool. he was actually in the midst of drowning. >> anchor: a young boy. i couldn't imagine him not going home tonight. >> anchor: saved by a stranger. a lifeguard and a good samaritan pulling that young boy from the pool in hyde park taking turns giving him cpr in order to save his life. amaka ubaka is live in hyde park right now. the woman who rescth boy said he was in the middle of the in about four and a half feet of water when all of a sudden that little boy panicked and went under the water. he is home. he is going home. he is going home tonight. that's all that matters. nikia don't holds back tears as she talks about the near drowning at this pool and her part in the rescue. she says a group of kids jumped in all at once after the pool reopened from a break. he was following someone out to the middle of the pool

the lifeguard realized he wasn't breathing and he was actually in the midst of drowning. the female lifeguard jumped into the water and that's when dean jumped into action. he was unresponsive for a good two to three minutes. me and her just rotated. she did compressions, i breathed. i breathed. i did compressions. we just rotated until we got a pulse. >> anchor: ems arrived and took over. state police say the 7-year-old was alert and conscious. this mother says despite her consider herself a mother oh. i just kept picturing my baby's face on that little by's body like i'm in the a hero. i am no one's hero. >> anchor: the department of conservation and recreation sent me a statement tonight ing the actions of that lifeguard who also helped save this child's life. that 7-year-old was taken to children's hospital but just as a precaution he is expected to be okay. live in hyde park tonight, amaka

dropped him off at his ex-girlfriend's house. police launched an all out search for that boy and later arrested the father. >> anchor: after being shut down by the city a popular boston restaurant is opening up. sweet green on boylston street is now open. it failed a health inspection earlier this week and was shut down as we reported. the city health department cleared it to reopen. >> anchor: donald trump clarifying comments in the race for the white house of. trump called president obama the founder of isis yesterday. then today, he tried ryan schulteis is in our newsroom with more. it keeps going back and forth on his comment on isis and the president all while hilary clinton released her taxes hoping to force trump's hand. tonight hilary clinton is hoping the release of her 2015 taxes will put pressure on donald trump to do the same. because he refuses to do what every other presidential candidate in decades has done and release his tax returns. >> anchor: the filing shows the clintons made a combined 10.7

this point those passengers are probably going to pay very close attention to those fasten your seat belt signs. horrifying accounts when a jet blue flight from boston to sacramento dropped some 4,000 feet. luggage was coming down and then the lady next to me starting crying. >> anchor: the flight had to be diverted to south dakota, emergency crews waiting. they have numerous injuries on the flight due to turbulence. >> anchor: before landing a surgeon who happened to be on the flight was there to help. all three flight attendants were standing in the back and with the force of the turbulence it actually sent them up and hit the ceiling. >> anchor: this flight attendant one of two dozen passengers and crew taken to the hospital. passenger rhonda spoke to us from south dakota outa. she and her family returning from a reunion in mass as. it was like we were in an elevator that dropped. i thought we were dying. >> anchor: this is rhonda's mom

on another flight to get home to california. the force so intense, that the toilet was ripped from the floor. >> anchor: now jet blue did offer an apology and money toward future flights for those passengers. and meanwhile, they have all recovered and been released from the hospital with minor injuries in boston tonight, jadiann thompson, 7 news night team. >> anchor: also tonight a slithering surprise in quincy. people in one neighborhood find a rattlesnake. police quickly called environml grab the snake before it could get away. officers think the heat could be drawing snakes out of the woods as they search for water. >> anchor: you won't find any in my backyard. we have a scattering of showers and most activity focused through portions of rhode island. even a little bit in southern worcester county or oxford in particular hit hard with some downpours and storms. about four inches of rain in portions of rhode island and then you look around metro

and that's going to continue to be the theme over the next several days. you will see on our 7 day forecast, you know rain drops and lightning bolts but there is no widespread rain in the forecast. scattered in nature hit and miss. what a hot day. boston 98 this afternoon. bedford at 97. beverly at 96. we hit 98 back in july but on that day there was no humidity. we have a lot of humidity still right now 70's and 80's. the city at 82. plymouth at 76. the reason for the scattering of showers and storms earlier y continues to drop south out of northern new england and it will waiver back and forth so tomorrow we actually got a break from excessive heat and humidity but just a one day thing because as we work into sunday that front lifts back up into northern new england and temperatures will take off heading for the 90's. overnight tonight mostly cloudy, warm, muggy, 68 to 74. southwest wind will shift to the northeast. you really feel that city of boston cape ann as well as new hampshire sea coast but further

joins us again from rio with more on that story. nancy? he always keeps things interesting, doesn't he? his style is always surprising us and in fact just in the waste peek alone we have seen him change his hairstyle multiple times and that's not the only way he likes to express his style. when he is not in the pool sometimes even when he is on the pool deck you will likely spot him in several different pairs of sneakers. back in 2012 he estimated that he had more than 130 pairs. you can only guess how many he it's something he takes seriously from american flags to neon colors, his collection is incredibly expansive. by the way, speak of collecting things one member of the time five has made quite the collection from here in rio. i had a chance today to talk to the whole team about their time here in rio and what they are looking for to most. it's the traditional way of making it in sports being on the cover of a serial box an honor

final five. but at the end of the day they are also great friends who love to laugh. we're having so much fun. >> reporter: they tell me that's what is surprised the most about the games. i think with awful pressure sometimes you get nervous that you are not going to enjoy it. but we're having the time of our lives. it's been like such an incredible experience with each other. >> anchor: but being role models is something they don't take litly. you know, so many little girls look up to us and it's just so special to be able to be here at the olympics with all of these amazing s so i think there is going continue a lot of little girls coming up to us wanting pictures and autographs but it will be really fun when we get back hom. >> anchor: they have seen their endless hours of hard work pay off. you don't think any of us have ever been more prepared in our lives. >> reporter: and they are enjoying their time in rio. aly raisman is headed home with mementoes. she loves her pins. she has like 50 or 60. >> reporter: don't ask her where she is keeping them. where are your pins?
