mcdonald's, supporting athletes on their journeys toward olympic gold. the americans continue to lead in both overall and gold medals. meanwhile, jamaica won its first two rio golds last night and tonight with elaine thompson and usain bolt claiming the titles of world's fastest woman and man. and south africa won its first gold tonight with wayde van niekerk's world record performance in the 400 meters. it was also a tremendous sunday for great britain today. across gymnastics, sailing, cycling, and tennis with andy murray winning a second straight singles title. and there was goal from justin rose in golf's return. and we'll leave you tonight with the first olympic golf medal ceremony since one was presumably held at glen oak hill country club in st. louis back in 1904. 112 years later it was time to

medal in the event. and turning now it a scare here in rio tore members of the u.s. swim team including rhine lochte. early this morning their taxi was pulled over by armed men posing as police. a night of celebration shared on social media bring rhine lock taking a turn as he and his three teammates were robbed at gun point. the group was in a taxi heading back to the athletes village when a ve which lochte detailed exclusively for nbc's billy bus. we got pulled over in our taxi and these guys came out with a badge, a police badge, no lights, no, nothing, just a police badge. they pulled us over, they pulled out their guns, they told the other swimmers to get down on the ground of they got down on the ground. >> anchor: lochte said he refused to get on ground at

then the guy pull out his gun, he cocked it, put it to my forehead and said get down and i was like, i put my hands up and i was like whatever. he took our money, he took my wallet. >> anchor: gun artweeted later we are all safe. lochte tweeted a statement saying i want to thank my family friends and fans for the overwhelming support and concern i have received today. what is most important is that we are safe and unharmed. rio police are investigating and plan to inter word of the robbery led to some confusion between olympic and u.s. officials. the international olympic committee initially denying the reports. the encounter threatening to march what's been a thrilling olympics for the team, 33 medals in all. certainly very happy that all those business are safe. that's number one priority on top of everything. >> anchor: meantime hours before the incident lochte's teammate michael phelps calling it a career.

night, phelps added another gold to his collection winning the four by 100 meter relay. it's his 23rd, 28th olympic medal overall. with that the world's most decorated olympian saying rio will be his last olympics. tonight he sat down with lester holt. he said his decision is made and he does not seem himself changing his mind. well, i walked in last night and i said mom, we're not going to tokyo. i said i'm not swimming in tokyo smiling. then she was like what about a 100 fly in the relay? i was like mom, we're done. that's it. we're finished. it's been an amazing career. a ridiculous career and there is no better way of finishing how i did. >> anchor: a lot of people still saying we'll see about that one. now to the court a busy day for andy murray. big day for him of he took the gold medal back to great britain of a win over argentina making

those colorful figurines. they are now setting social media on fire. coming up later nancy has the answer and you will find that it's actually pretty practical. and then gold medalist aly raisman getting ready for another event in rio. she flips, twists, tumbles yet it's pretty rare to see a hair out of police. so we're going to tell you what her secret is and that's coming up. >> anchor: we are following some breaking news out of new york. police investigating reports of shots fired at jfk airport. a terminal was evacuat officers searched for any signs of a shooter. the night team's dan hausle following breaking details. >> anchor: new york police responding to those reports of shots fired at jfk. so far detectives say there is no evidence of any gunfire. the reports first came in around 9:30 sunday night. people were evacuated from the terminal as a precaution. new york port authority officials say no one is hurt and no weapons, no rounds of ammo, no shell casings have been found. all flights heading to jfk airport were actually held on

not as humid. so we'll talk about how long the humidity stays low and our next chance for storms coming up in a few minutes. >> anchor: all right, new tonight a house goes new flames and newburyport on plum island. this was the scene on 59th street just a couple of hours ago. you can see that smoke really and pour there from that three story home. officials say fire crews throughout the merrimac valley and new hampshire responded to help put out all of those flames. there are no reports of any injuries and the cause of the fire is now under investigation. also from e trapped and in trouble a grandmother locked inside a methuen dialysis center. she was apparent low forgotten and at 86 years old, from wasn't much she could do about it. tonight her grand daughter is outraged and she spoke to the night team's amaka ubaka. >> reporter: nick, in aly hasn't heard from that dialysis center about why this happened them say they are speaking out tonight because they want to make sure this doesn't happen to anyone else.

floor, completely alone and bedridden until her family found her. this is so unbelievable. no one will believe this. >> reporter: this video shows the moments after fire fighters went into this locked dialysis clinic to rescue an 86-year-old grandmother who had been forgotten and left alone. when she saw my mom and i, when we got inside, she said i knew you guys would find me. that break my heart. >> reporter: erica crosby snapped this picture of her temporarily bedridden and had been left in a dark room for three hours. utter disgust. utter disgust. >> reporter: perry days at a rehab facilitiy two brings her to this clinic. when they went to pick her up the door was lock and lights were off. staff alerted crosby and her mom after she didn't return and that's when they decided to drive by. how did this happen? this is patient abandon the. you don't do this. this is like nursing rule 101. after calling 911 fire

the night team's cully o'hara is live in princeton where people came together to remember him. kelly? >> anchor: income, tough situation. people out here are scared. they came out tonight to show their support for fellow runners and also the young woman's family. they say last week has been frightening out here and they say after all this young woman's killer is still out there. running to remember. more than 100 people coming up to jog in memory of vanessa marcotte sunday evening. she waut out exare suzing near her princeton home last weekend. it's been very difficult and i think people were having a difficult time going out of their homes. it's hit everybody. male, female, old, young. you can just feel it. everybody is so worried and nervous and it's too bad because most people are good. >> reporter: organizers say they want to get people out their homes and feeling safe on streets once again. after the run across town the heritage bible chapel hold a prayer vigil as well.

release that officer's body camera video to verify that what police are saying is true. milwaukee erupts as tempers boiled over, the city was set ablaze. rioters burned buildings, flames poured from this gas station after a night of violent protests. the more and more stuff happens, the city is bound to explode at one point. >> anchor: patrol cars also set on fire. protestors burn six businesses, as well as officers injuring four. they tossed rocks and cement blocks at stores. the violence came after a black police officer shot and killed 23-year-old seville smith following a chase. the individual was armed, the individual did turn toward the officer with a firearm in his hand. >> reporter: police say the officer involved was wearing a body camera. that video is now in the hands of state investigators. i will assure the community i will do everything i can to

>> anchor: we are back in thelic zone getting more insight into how aly raisman prepares to compete. >> anchor: that's right. the night team's nanny chen live for news rio throughout the game. so far i'm curious what's going on with this story. nancy? >> reporter: you know when aly raisman competes she is on a quest for perfection of she doesn't want evening a single hair out of place. before we came to rio i had a chance to talk to her about how she prepares for those stay on top of her head. it doesn't have to be the same number every single time but i use a lot of elasstics but i like to have it stay in the whole competition and not worry about it falling out. >> anchor: got it make sure everything is perfect, right? she says sometimes her hair is actually so tight she gets headaches from just how tight her hair is. now when aly and other athletes have been taking to the podium for medal ceremonies you may have noticed they have something other than their medals. it's something that's been

are getting along with these things of a lot of people wondering what the winning olympians were holding. well, those figurines are meant to be 3 d representations of the rio olympics logo. this is the first time they have been handed out at the games in the past. you may have seen olympians with flowers. that's the more traditional thing, right? well, according to reports the flowers were scrapped this year for being "not very sustainable" and these aren't just paper weights or for decoration. they are actual isupposed to do more you know guys, i personally like flowers more. >> anchor: they look cool. it's an interesting thing to have but to have a built in medal holder, i think that is kind of neat. it practical. >> anchor: different i guess. >> anchor: it's different of i like it. it looked cool too. >> anchor: nancy, doing a great job in rio. thank you . ishave a goodnight. >> anchor: coming up in the forecast, tomorrow summer stunner but humanity surging

>> anchor: it was another scorcher for us today of highs making it into the mid 90's and that makes 16 meanity degree or higher days for the city of boston so far this summer. but that's not close to the record. the record is 30 noonity degree days this summer of 1983. worse and very unbearable were the dewpoints and they are still in the mid 70's as you can see southeastern massachusetts near buzzards bay. when you couple the heat with the humidity, you get these feels like temperatures into the triple digits and that's what we had today. that was an example taken straight from new bedford. a sure you noticed that. so to put it in perspective for you, we had those dewpoints in the mid 70's for today and even tonight but that drops more in check for tomorrow. i think still a bit sticky,

but you will notice a difference certainly not the oppressive humidity we had today. current temperatures still fairly warm, low 80's for boston 77 norwood, 73 for worcester. it doesn't got a whole lot cooler than this overnight tonight unfortunately. mild and muggy, 66 to 72 for overnight lows. then tomorrow hot again but the good news again for us, not as humid. 86 to 91. it's really more of an enjoyable summertime warmth kind of day. highre brings us mostly sunny skies and then we don't pay attention to our next weather maker until we hit tuesday afternoon and evening into wednesday as well bringing more scattered showers and storms into the forecast area. we don't want the severe weather but we do want the rain. beaches tomorrow, storms free and nice warm stunner for us with low tide smack dab in the middle of the afternoon. a look at the 7 on 7 forecast showing the ers showers and storms, plus humidity surging back in for tuesday and wednesday and then things become
