rio and how he is getting back to business with the patriots. of course, we are talking about nate ebner who played on the rugby team. >> nick:ya. the patriots gave him some time off to compete. joe amorosino is in the newsroom now with more on ebner's transition back to football. >> reporter: any special treatment ebner got is over now. the special teams ace back to the business of football and back to practice. just like the rest of his teammates. ebner not sticking around to take part in the closing ceremony in rio. he is returning to work. he returned last week. trying to get back into football. working on his conditioning off to the side while his patriot teammates had three joint prakties with the bears. ebner called the olympics a cool experienced a says he is happy to be back. to his full-time job. >> you know, what was expected. i'm fully committed to the rugby team. once that, you know, job was

we are in for some pleasant weather behind it. we will talk about expected rain totals and the rest of the forecast for this week to come in just a few minutes. >> anchor: thank you. following more news today. tragedy on the streets of east boston. a party bus hits and kills a woman. a second person was also hit and sent to the hospital. kelli o'hara is live to with details on how this all happened. kelli? >> reporter: nicole, and that is the big question. how did this happen? boston police do con overnight here. just before the airport exit. they do tell us that 911 was called around 2:00 a.m. this morning. with someone calling for help, saying two people had been struck in the roadway. now, one person died immediately. the other one rushed to the hospital. no word as to how or why those victims were in the road or hit. details very unclear. we did reach out to the bus company, though. they did release a statement

to the families and the victims. we are cooperating with boston police and providing officials with anything they need to investigate this tragic accident." our driver was questioned by boston police briefly for protocol before he was released and sent home. the company has not had any accidents and a clean driving record in their nearly two decades of running. still, though, many details are unclear. and again, one of those victims killed here. another one rushed to the hospital fighting for their life this evening. in east boston,li 7 news. >> nick: all right. scary night for some parents in lowell. two pre-school-age children pulled from a pool there. investigators say they were guests at a birthday party at this house on frita lane last night. two nurses heard calls for help and ran over. they were able to revive little girl. but the little boy was still unresponsive when medics showed up. both kids were flown to boston hospitals in critical condition.

street. investigators responded to reports of gunfire and found the victims with non-life-threatening injuries. they were taken to a nearby hospital. anyone with information should call police. >> anchor: the coast guard making a rescue off the coast of martha's vineyard this morning. a boat began taking on watt we are six people onboard just before 9:00 this morning. the coast guard jumped into action, sending out a boat and a helicopter to the rescue. they were able to pump the water out of the boat and then tow thatt fortunately, nobody was hurt. authorities say the flooding was caused by a crack in the hull. >> nick: all right. still much more to come on 7 news at 6:00. >> anchor: a new controversy for the clinton campaign. it involves candidates' charity work. details on that, plus a big statement from the republicans today. >> nick: more help for those impacted by the devastating floods in louisiana. details on what is being done

my dogs love water. i didn't know they did this. >> anchor: see? my dogs don't like water. you have to get frank and beans into this. they could have been chilling on the side of the pool like that one dog hanging out. be friends. >> nick: i think that was indoors, too. a nice day to be outside, bri. a beautiful weekend. >> bri: for sure. more dry weather. we know it's been a fairly dry month in august so far. less than an inch of rainfall for boston. we are well below average. just for the month. but it also could turn out to be the driest summer that we have had. on the history books. extreme drought conditions. i know you are probably tired of seeing this map here. this wraps around the city of boston. up through the merrimack valley. i mentioned sitting at number one, we wrnt wrapped up meteorological summer. we are still from that number two ranking there. however, we have some rain moving in for us. you can see that entering into western massachusetts. it is in response to this cold front here.

lift, even into the overnight hours to. bring us heavy downpours in some areas as well as rumbles of thunder. i have used the analogy before, when off wet sponge, if you can squeeze it, you can squeeze out a lot of water. we have moisture in place right now. and with this extra bit of lift, we could get a good amount of rain. out of some of these storms and downpours that set up. once again, we know very picky and choosy where they do end up dropping a whole bunch of rain and then next-door, you get hardly anything. how much rain is on the way. maybe half an inch widespread. quart of an inch down along the south coast. bum we also have the potential to see more than an inch. up to an inch and a half in some of those areas that capitalize on the bull's eyes. again, it is hard to pinpoint exactly where those end up. we will be watching for it into the overnight hours. current temperatures, very comfortable. even cool. 72 in boston right now. 80, bedford, down to norwood.

slowly creeping up throughout the day. it is humid out there. i mentioned that primed atmosphere with moisture. we can capitalize on that with our front overnight tonight. i love playing this game. behind the front. you can see where the dry air is back behind that front. that is what's going to enter as we move into tomorrow. while we are up here, tomorrow, we are back into the comfortable range and even dry, making it into tuesday. so conditions will improve with the humidity and the temperatures are nice for thene tonight showers and storms might get woken up by a rumble of thunder. a couple of these storms could prove to be strong. into tomorrow, the showers are out of here by 8:00 a.m. taking the cloud cover with it. a bit of a breeze if you are headed to the beach tomorrow. we get the sunshine back. we get to keep it around for the better part of next week. here is a look at my forecast. temperatures staying in the 80's. we get a boost in temperatures.

>> reporter: tom brady enjoying a long weekend. excused from practice today and tomorrow. apparently, not related to his thumb injury which is good news for the patriots. there is also bad news. dion lewis, the electric running back, will have a second surgery on his left knee after tearing his acl back on november 8. he took part in the final spring practice on june 13 without a knee brace. but he has been on the physically unable to perform list to start training camp. tom curran procedure does not involve the acl or other ligaments. the recovery timetable is expected to be eight to ten weeks. which means jimmy garoppolo will be down a weapon to start the season. the news on the offensive line not encouraging either with right tackle volmer likely headed to injured-reserve. he had shoulder surgery during the off-season. multiple reports indicate that it is a hip issue that could lead to him being placed on
