they fell, different directions it was mainly between houses. a national weather service alarm gave many home owners a 15 to 20 minute warning blasting them out of their beds with a 20 second siren alarm through their cell phones at 3:00 in morning. one resident directly in the path of the tornado. he immediately got his family up, he started to feel the storm copping and they went right down and took tschetter just as they should so early the project before us to is to open up roads, get their electricity restored and make the situation safe. >> anchor: governor baker and home owners smiling as he toured the area, evidence that supports the governor's declaration of relief. as you walk threw there and you look at all of that towned, all that carnage and downed trees and all the rest you can't believe that it didn't have an

up in the area. this a great example of the damage here. you see the root ball there of this tree we're told it was dried out by all of the drought we've had lately. that played a part in a lot of trees coming down but the direction it fell, away from the house. that is the great bit of luck. you got another tree that fell just close to the house, causing some damage in the garage. but this is an example of trees falling all around but amazingly not more damage to houses and no injuries to residents. live in concord, dan hausle, 7 news. >> anc crews expected to be there for a while picking up after this tornado including you can see behind me here that big tree that fell in front of a home. 7's byron barnett is live in concord with the latest in byron this year's drought you heard dan talk about it there, may have contributed to these trees coming down so easily you might say. yeah, nick, that's right. according to a meteorologist from the national weather service when the ground is moist that holds roots in the ground

well, poof, up they come. her is a perfect examplep luck at this massive tree behind me. this tree is uprooted here right in this resident's front yard. residents we talked to say all of this only lasted for less then a minute but the damage left behind unforgettable. cleanup crews taking down huge trees weakened by the violent tornado that ripped through concord just after 3:00 a.m. earthquake. everything was shaking. we felt a lot of pressure against the walls. the dog was how long. massive trees uprooted, homes damaged from fallen limbs. this home was probably the worst hit. the tornado roaring over the backyard pool, breaking windows and the force of the storm leaving a branch punched right through a wall. during the aftermath we had to be very careful walk around because you can see there are lots of downed power lines on

are still you'ring caution. but when you look around, it's amazing what happened in just a short at of time. trees down, wires down, people without power in their homes, roads closed. officials in this town say they have never seen anything like this here before. out the window it looked like you were in a blender it and making the nastiest spinach green drink, all of this green leaves were floating around the windows and then it was something. >> anchor: this car hit fallen tree. many residents woke up to an emergency alert on their cell phones just before the tornado hit. it was a very distinctive, loud, repetitive beeping which was different from any kind of like tent alert or phone call or it was clearly something is wrong. >> anchor: after witnessing mother nature's fury up close, residents here say it's a miracle no one was hurt. i am so blessed. i cannot tell you. i am so blessed. god watched over us. >> reporter: you may not know

tornado warning emergency alerts. now many residents from around here we talked to say they didn't known they had it on this phone but now they say they are sure glad they did. that's the latest live here in concord, byron barnett, 7 news. >> anchor: and we've seen what it looks like from the ground but here is a bird's eye view of what crews are now facing. you can get an idea of the amount of damage that has been left behind of a lot of trees down. a lot of branches. 7's jonathan hall joins you now live from sky 7 with part that view from above. dan and byron are showing you so much on the ground but up here at 1,500 feet we can show you even more and we're finding more damage at this hour. a live picture right now. you can see this tree has split a shed in two and as we pan right a little bit you can see more of the damage. trees down, more cleanup yet to be done. as twisters go this could have been a lot worse but don't tell that to residents in concord

and alcott and on nearby lexington road. dozens of homes are damaged including a large estate which appears to have suffered some structural damage. trees toppled into the home's swimming pool, men retreat debris including a lounge chair from the water, lazy days by the pool done for now. a crane was brought in to pick up and remove giant trees which block streets, luckily most missed homes and people. tree removal companies armed with chain shaw's and wood chippers have their work cut out for you can see large trees snapped like tuition as twisters 100 mile-per-hour winds kicked up. look at the roots ripped right out of the ground here. the violent storm also downed power lines and utility polls and crews are using cranes to replace them. images from august 2016, a summer that people of concord will remember for a long, long time. become live over the historic town of condition cord we can zoom in and see the wood chipper working hard.

very big logs and putting it into the chipper which is working over time tonight. may be a long, long night of listening to that wood chipper here in concord. meantime, the insurance adjusters doing their job, damage likely in the millions. live in sky 7, jonathan hall, 7 news. >> anchor: jonathan, thank you. this storm, the tornado touched down early this morning, winds reaching up to 100 miles per hour. >> anchor: putting it in the category of an ef jeremy reiner standing by with a closer look at what all of that means. again, the ef is enhanced fujita scale develop in the 1950's then meteorologists assessed it and revised it so it became the enhanced fujita scale. most of the tornadoes in new england are at the weakened of the scale. ef 0 and one and sometimes you get a two. last time we had an ef 3 was back in 2011, june 1 of 2011.

traveling for about a half mile on the ground for about ten minutes but the weather service was able to give about a 20 minute lead time. here you go this morning doppler radar there is concord and there is the storm that likely was holding the tornado near sudbury then moving northeast. moving across concord at that time about 3: 17 and wind data inside the storm green and red so tightly pack to the indicating the storm had rotation obviously it produced the tornado in concord with the most significant damage up here in lexington road right there thankfully the atmosphere is much quieter this evening and remains quiet and comfortable for a few days. we will talk more about that coming up in a few minutes. >> anchor: as you have seen with all of these report the cleanup is going to take days with this. a lot work to be done. those wood chippers as jonathan hall said really going to be working over time of we will continue to follow the very latest on this tornado in concord. remember to stay with 7 on-line

aftermath. >> anchor: we're following more news today. the city of somerville dropping an appeal against the wynn resort can was even o.the mayor said it's because they resolved many of the community's concerns and the appeal was never meant to stop the casino but to fewer the health, safety and quality of life for the people who live in the city. the appeal did cause some major changes to the casino's plans including the reduced length of the casino's license from 85 to 50 y the use of a ferry which will reduce road traffic so the major cis he is happy with the results. i want to thank the community for this and i want to thank the somerville board. our staff, our team. we are satisfied with the results and we are proud of what we've accomplished. and we look forward to working with our new partners in wynn. >> anchor: construction continues on the casino and it is said to open in 2019 on 37 acres of land. >> anchor: a lynn man in court

dangerous drive. robert dedario is facing his third oui charge and a charge of interfering with an officer. police say he crashed his car into a youilitiy pole then ran away, take a look here. this happened in lynn on saturday. traffic was impacted, the crash also knocked out power to a nearby neighborhood for hours. >> anchor: the massachusetts statehouse was evacuated today but officials say it wasn't anything serious. they say construction in the basement triggered the fire alarm after about everyone was let back inside. >> anchor: coming up, it is meant to make your drive easier, new electronic tolls could put your privacy in jeopardy. >> anchor: coming up, two women accused of an unthinkable crime. police say they robbed a nun in

>> anchor: the state's electronic tolls will go live in october but opponents are questioning whether the new program is an invasion of privacy. it will automatically register tolls meaning no one will have to stop and pay the toll. >> anchor: that's right. but some are worrying information will be saved and they are worrying about who will have access to it. kelly o'hara is live in boston with details on this new

questions on this invasion of privacy. many wondering who will have access to this and what they can do with it? things the state says are still being worked out. no more toll booths. the has mass department of transportation meeting today to discuss the state's new electron iing to system. up for discussion, who wand what they will be waving. we're completing data so we can properly bill people for the tolls that they incur and that's the only way in most cases we will ever use that data license plate. the state says it will be using the data for big and help law enforcement with some investigations like when there is an amber alert. they are assuring the public access to that information will be limited. however, the american civil liberties union says it has concerns in and questions. at the aclu we don't object to the state police getting notifications for amber alerts or really serious life-threatening american sees like that. but it certainly shouldn't be the case that law enforcement is getting access to hot listed

>> anchor: j a little fall preview for the day tomorrow, especially during morning hours. otherwise, we warm things back into the upper 80's, rest of the week essentially dry the next chance of any beneficial rain will be friday afternoon, a few isolated showers and storms but until then, enjoy this fall preview. dew point temperatures in the upper 40's to around 50 and again tomorrow and wednesday in the 50's and even by the end of the week again these numbers are climbing but considering a could you evansville weeks ago dewpoints were 75 to 80.

63. i know we can handle these temperatures. boston right new at 76. look at worcester. jaffrey, 69. bedford at 73. there is the power cold front that came blasting through new england now exiting screen right there moving away from western nova scotia, moving a cross with some showers and downpours there. we did have some beneficial rain off course the tornado was the headline grabber but many cities and towns west of northwest of the city and soutst downtown boston just under an inch of some beneficial rain. so summer meteorological summer is june 1 through august 31 and right now if that were the case today ending it would be the driest summer on record for the city of boston. we do have a chance at this because i don't see any significant rain if the forecast. there will be one or cool front that comes through new england friday afternoon with a few isolated showers. so perhaps this will go into the books for boston as the driest summer on record.

northeast overnight tonight and mostly clear and comfortable with a little hint of fall. these will be the temperatures tomorrow morning if you have a morning commute again you might need a jacket or sweater for an hour. these will be the temperatures around 6:00 a.m. tomorrow morning. are in wood 46, bedford 49, the city of boston near 60. then otherwise just an outstanding late summer early fall day. lots of sunshine, low humidity, temperatures tomorrow afternoon upper 70's to around 80. boston at 77, lakeville at 80. north of town the merrimac valley, the sea to around 80 and worcester hills. upper 70's, worcester itself at 79 and out on to the cape and islands if it's vacation mode for you chatham at 75. a great beach day, lots of sun. temperatures 75 to 80 the water temperatures low 70's. low tied in the morning, high tide about 4:00 in the afternoon. so there is tomorrow for you. wednesday lots of sunshine. it is warmer on wednesday. temperatures on wednesday in the upper 80's but again those dewpoints are low so it's more of a dry heat if you will. comfortable. but perhaps a little bit on the
