>> sarah: two breaking stories first at noon. dozens of people forced out of their homes in lawrence. intense flames ripping through several buildings. crews still on the scene as smoke continues to smolder. thankfully, everyone made it out safely. and in new bedford, two people are arrested in connection with the death of a teen. police say the 15-year-old boy was stabbed last night. >> anchor: he ran home to get help but didn't make it.

minute to face charges related to the murder of mateo morales. class is being charged with accessory to murder and assault and battery. the second person under arrest is a 16-year-old boy. his name is not being released. nicole oliverio has more. >> reporter: a 15-year-old is stabbed during a fight. investigators say the teen collapsed and died as he tried running home for help. now this new bedford community wants to know why this had to happen. >> why? 15-year-old baby? he is a baby. he didn't even get a chance to experience life. >> he will put a smile on your face. he was a very outgoing kid. big-hearted, like. you know what i'm saying? he is 15 years old. he didn't even get to graduate high school. >> reporter: police say the teen was one of three young people stabbed. officers say there was a big fight at the temple landing housing projects. a 16 and 22-year-old were also taken to the hospital with stab wounds but expected to survive.

and now investigators are trying to figure out how it all began. >> you get to see the flames over the building. it was just crazy. >> reporter: terrifying moments overnight here in lawrence. flames break out in an abandoned building here in summer street and quickly spread to five other homes filled with residents. >> we had multiple triple-deckers in the back before you even get to the next street. as well as a two and a half-story wood frame to the left. that is what i woke up to. >> reporter: residents rushing to wake everyone else up inside the burning buildings, scrambling to safety. >> the heat woke him up. he grabbed his daughter and started pounding on the neighbors' doors to get up and wake up. >> i was sleeping. my mom said... she said "wake up. there is fire." >> reporter: she describes rushing from the flames and smoke. >> when i get outside, i saw,

i was really crying. >> reporter: the city has been working, trying to get the landlord to tear down the building before something like this could happen. >> it was something that... because of the homelessness issue, we had somebody useing the space. that is how the fire started. >> most of them in this situation will get basically, the same type of assistance. because they all lt they can't get back into their house. >> reporter: all right. four of the six buildings here are inhabitable, according to the fire chief. you can see two of them. >> you look down this alley here. you see several triple-deckers suffering serious damage from these fast-moving flames. the investigation into the cause is under way right now. the fire chief says damage here is in excess of a million dollars. we are live from lawrence this afternoon, steve cooper, 7

>> anchor: now turning to your forecast. looks like another beautiful day in store. sunny skies and temperatures hitting the 80's. meteorologist danielle gersh joins us now with more. >> danielle: yes. another warm day. we have had no shortage of those. notice those dew points in the 60's. a little bit more humid out there. and that southwest wind is bringing in some of the more humid air. you will notice it is a little muggier out there today. high temperatures by this afternoon, climbing once again, into the upper 0's. it is another warm day. a nice day maybe if you are heading to the beach today. for this afternoon, maybe you are hitting the golf course, temperatures in the mid to upper 80's. you will start to see the clouds increase. not going to rule out the chance for a stray shower today. the better chance will be for tomorrow. we will talk more about that. back to you, guys. >> anchor: thanks, danielle. we are continuing to track a developing story overseas.

survivors amid the rubble in central italy. an earthquake leaving three towns and the death toll now climbing to more than 200. >> sarah: buildings on the brink of collapse. in central italy, a desperate race against time. in the search for survivors, emergency crews and even bystanders are struggling with rough terrain, limited access, and debris everywhere. aftershocks, some almost as large as t i my tuesday quake continue to rock the area. a cnn correspondent had a close call reporting from the hard-hit village. most of the houses have collapsed, and the one that is haven't are close to. since the earthquake, rescuers have been pulling bodies out of the rubble. those who got out of their homes are sleeping outside or in cars. unwilling and unable to go back inside.

>> reporter: others don't share the same fear. this man went back into his home to get his tv. his only protection? was a helmet. in the devastated town, the clock tower stands frozen. its hands stopped at 3.36 a.m. the moment the quake struck. rescuers every joyed wednesday at the rescue of a little girl found alive in the rubble. first, they saw a tiny foot. then a leg. in the video, a man seems to be talking to the girl then rescuers thois little girl out of the rubble. one bystander crying out "beautiful girl" in italian. >> sarah: wow. another aftershock hit that area causing even more damage. and no one has claimed responsibility for an apparent terrorist attack on the american university in afghanistan.

attack. and another 40 are wounded. the attack started wednesday with a car bomb. then ended with gunfire. two of those gunmen were killed. >> sarah: an 18-year-old fighting for her life in dorchester. police say she was caught if the crossfire when bullets went flying on the street. a dog also injured. and now they are trying to track down whoever pulled the trigger. kris anderson has the latest. >> kris: shots fired in this dorchester neighborh this morning. now a young woman is fiting for her life. >> it is crazy around here. really crazy. >> reporter: police say around 1:00 a.m., a gunman opened fire on mclittleland street. the woman was shot. neighbors tell us she ran around the corner to her home on paige street. that is where emergency responders found her. she was taken to the hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries. >> i hope that it doesn't

car. as for the young lady, again, she is being treated for potentially life-threatening injuries. that is the latest here in dorchester. kris anderson, 7 news. >> anchor: a man seriously injured after a rollover in merrimack, new hampshire. it happened on the everett turnpike late last night. police say it is driver was ejected from the car after he lost control, hitting a barrier and a wall. you can see parts of the car there scattered on the road. no word yet on the cause of the crash. searching for the person who shot a woman in the head. according to the "eagle tribune", the shooting happened on freeman court wednesday evening. the woman was taken to lawrence general hospital. also in lawrence, a car slams into a pole. it happened on broadway. early this morning. police say the driver ran off after the crash. they are now looking into what may have caused it. turning now to the race for the white house. donald trump holding a rally in manchester, new hampshire today.

for help and died just feet from his door-step. today in court, 21-year-old luis rafael class was held without bail. he is being charged with accessory to murder after the fact. also in court today was the 16-year-old juvenile. he is being charged with assault and battery. police, though, have not yet made an arrest for the actual murder. now, according to investigators, they say this all happened at one of the housing projects around 6:30 yesterday evening. police say that there was a group stabbed to death. a 16 and 22-year-old were also wounded. they were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. they are expected to be okay. people in the community, meantime, are just asking for the violence to stop. >> it was just a very outgoing kid. big-hearted, like. you know what i'm saying? he is, like, 15 years old. he didn't even get to graduate high school. >> let's get with the program, kids. let's stop killing these

tomorrow evening. and it will be, you know, that situation where some of you see it. some of you don't. saturday and sunday looking dry. if you have weekend plans, you are in good shape. the next two days, warm and humid. but then not as humid and storm-free as we head into your saturday and sunday. more on the forecast coming up. >> sarah: sky 7 over the scene yesterday when a plane that made an emergency landing was removed from a sandbar on the quabbin reservoir. crews hooked that plane up to a big helicopter. up, pulling it high over the water. the pilot of the plane was forced to make an emergency landing on the sand bar tuesday after some engine trouble. thankfully, whenever not hurt. officials say there is no environmental threat from the accident. >> anchor: investigators are trying to figure out what caused an recall the light helicopter to crash into the ashland reservoir. the pilot made a great escape after his helicopter took a dive. he says his experience

crews pulling an ultra light helicopter out of the reservoir at ashland state park. the aircrafts crashed here at 4:30 on wednesday. the pilot, 48-year-old david diana of hopkinton. he says he had an engine problem. >> there was no place to go. i wanted to get over the trees. and this was the only place i could drop it. >> reporter: despite falling from 1500 feet, diana wasn't hurt. he was able to unbuckle and ditch the $45,000 helicopter in the water. >>en field, i would have been fine. >> somebody was able to help him out and brought him to the shore. >> reporter: ashland police say diana took off for marlborough after the crash. there was no risk to the environment. >> he was the sole occupant of the aircraft. >> >> reporter: that is view inside the alcoholer from a previous flight.

diana says he practices for this kind of situation all the time. >> you are always flying around looking for places, where if off problem, you know how to put it down. >> sarah: a former new hampshire state trooper called to court today. the 31-year-old andrew monaco is expected to plead guilty to three counts of simple assault for beating suspect richard simone, jr., following a high-speed chase back in may. monaco faces up to five years behind bars. a massachusetts state trooper is also facing connection with the incident. >> anchor: the moments before police shot and killed an alleged terrorist in roslindale last summer. the d.a. is now saying officers were justified in shooting the man when he pulled a knife on them. federal agents moved in after getting word that rahim was plotting to kill police officers. his family says officers should have used a different approach. >> couldn't they have

him if he didn't pose the threat that they are saying without having shot him numerous times? >> mr. rahim, continued to advance on the officers. refused to drop his weapon. and responded by saying "you drop yours." and "why don't you shoot me." >> reporter: rahim's original plan was to travel out of state to kill someone. he got that order from a known member of isis. >> sarah: an explosion in salem being investigated as a possible hate crime. gb ripped apart in the middle of town. now police are looking for seven people behind the blast. police say the explosion rocked it is downtown area of salem. and could be heard up to a mile away. >> at first, it was very shocking to me. i literally gasped. i covered my mouth. >> reporter: investigators say early tuesday morning, a group of seven people placed an explosive device inside fast rainbow times newspaper box in salem square. detectives are treating it as

>> it makes me sad to think that there is still people out there that have enough hatred to blow up a newspaper box. >> reporter: the co-owner of the paper said in the past few months, as many as a dozen rainbow times newspaper boxes have been vandalized in downtown salem. that is why they have made sure to have them in view of a traffic camera. but they said it's never been anything like. this. >> we have amazing support here in salem. this is not the location we ever expected this to happen in. our whole team has really said enough is enough. here in salem, you know, you will hear a lot of people say love always trumps hate. >> reporter: salem's mayor posted on facebook that the explosion was cowardly and they are working hard toward arresting whoever is responsible. a robbery suspect behind bars after a standoff in south boston. the swat team arresting a 39-year-old man after he barricaded himself inside a

police say he was carrying this ak-47 assault rifle at the time. they say the suspect attempted to jump out of the window of this building on b street. but didn't make it out. after five hours of negotiations, officers took him into custody. according to the "boston globe," the suspect had been wanted for at least two bank robberies, including a robbery inside a stop&shop in bedford on monday. >> reporter: new details about another proposed medical marijuana boston. according to the "globe," city councilors approved a bid to build a dispensary in a vacant space in east boston last night. the council chose not to support a local company's request to open a separate dispensary in allston. >> reporter: the autographed patriots helmet stolen from a foxboro restaurant earlier this month has been returned now. surveillance footage showed a man stealing the helmet from skipjack's on august 11.

are closed as rushing waters sweep away vehicles and even an r.v.. just unbelievable to see that. so far, one person has died after their car was swept away by those fast-moving waters. really scary to see that. here, though, we have some beautiful weather the past few days. >> yeah. we have been lucky all week. danielle, what is the weather going to look like for this weekend? >> danielle: the weekend looks really good. we have a shower chance for tomorrow. nothing like what you just saw. they had parts of iowa, eight inchf they always say when you see the water, turn around: don't drown. be extra cautious. right now, don't have to worry. 85 in boston. low 0's along the cape. 78 in worcester. another really nice day. a little more humid out there. mostly clear skies right now. you will notice the cloud cover increasing a little. a lot of storms that move through the midwest, then move over the great lakes. as i zoom out, they are tracking into new england.

sort of severe weather for today. tomorrow, we have a chance to see some showers and storms. we will talk about that in a second. what you will probably notice today is the dew points creeping up. they are in the 60's right now. they have been in the 40's and 50's lately. they have been really mild and pleasant. we have a southwest wind in place. that is going to bring in this soupy air mass to our southwest. it will start to feel a little muggy out there today. this cold front will bring us the chance of showers and storms as we head into tomorrow. by saturday morning, it is moving on out of here. it is less humid. saturday and sunday for your weekend, if you have plans, they are looking great. you are in good shape heading to the beach on saturday or sunday. i want to take you through the timeline here. we are not going to rule out the chance for a stray shower for overnight tonight into tomorrow. but, as i was talking about,

the later part of tomorrow, is when we have a chance to see some of those isolated showers and even thunderstorms that could produce some downpours at times. some you see them. some you don't. it is hit or miss summer showers. we are kind of getting used to here in new england. as we head into friday night and into saturday morning, things looking much better. if you have beach plans, cookout plans for saturday, sunday, keep them. you are in good shape. you will enjoy the weekend weather. let's head to the tropics, though. and talk about the atlantic. gaston was a hurricane overnight. now it is back to a tropical storm. it has weak and little bit. the track the same. no threat to land. it will strengthen again as we head into the weekend and early next week. we are also keeping a close eye on this tropical wave. this is 99. it is southeast of turks and caicos right now. we will have to watch the track closely. this could threaten florida and the gulf of mexico as we head into the next couple of days. over the next five days, 80% chance of formation.
