>> now at 7 a massive fire rips through half a dozen homes. tonight the investigation into what city leaders are calling a problem property. >> anchor: new bedford police arrest 15 people after dies in the streets. >> reporter: plus horizon will it last the weekend. >> anchor: police officers stepping up to help save man's best friend after an overnight shooting in dorchester. >> 7 news at 7 starts now. >> anchor: we start at 7 with breaking news. rio police are charging ryan lochte with making false robbery reports. this comes after a bathroom vandalism case. >> anchor: authorities in rio

they've charged him with making false statements. lochte claimed he and 3 other teammates were held by robbers. lochte admitted embellishing his story and leaving certain details out. lochte lost multiple sponsorship deals since the scandal broke. >> anchor: a child pulled from a swimming pool rushed to the hospital. get out to brandon gunnoe. >> reporter: that boy was breathing. this happened after 2:30 on gorum street in chel'ms ford. multiple police units fire fighters and ems units responded to the house. a boy was in a conscious state and breathing on his own. medical personnel made a decision to fly that boy on a

when they noticed the boy had gone under and they pulled him out. >> but i feel terrible. i feel bad that a situation like this would happen in this area. this is a nice area. >> reporter: now again that boy was breathing when he was taken to the hospital in boston. that's the latest in chelmsford brandon gunnoe 7 news. >> anchor: dozens of people are without homes large fire rips through 6 buildings in lawrence. this video shows the massive flames that crews up against. the center of a court battle. tim caputo live with the latest for us. what do you know, tim? >> reporter: 53 people will have to find another place to stay. the city feared that something like this could eventually happen. huge flames light up the night sky in lawrence.

it was crazy. >> reporter: an abandoned building caught fire on summer street. sending dozens of people scrambling to get out of their homes in the middle of the night. >> the heat woke him up. he grabbed his daughter and started pounding on the neighbors doors to get up and wake up. >> reporter: most people were sound asleep. >> when i was sleeping my mom said -- she said wake up there's fire. >> reporter: no one was hurt but the mayor frustrated. the city has been eyeing this building as a problem property for 2 years. >> legally when inspectional services we've been here 20 times. we've cleaned the alley out multiple times. broughten people out of here multiple times. >> reporter: the owner was scheduled to be in court today. the city tried to get a judge to get him to tear down the home. >> failure of the property owner

entire neighborhood. >> reporter: the judge ordered the property to be secured in the next 24 hours. but the damage has already been done. the city is asking that that homeowner tear down what is left of that burned home. asking for outstanding fees. latest from lawrence tim caputo 7 news. >> anchor: 2 people are behind bars today after a boy dies on the streets of new bedford. 2 others were now a 21 year old man and a 16 year old boy have been charged with this triple stabbing. kimberly bookman live in new bedford with the story for us. >> reporter: investigators say they were able to nab them using surveillance video in the area of that stabbing. arrests are made after a 15 year old boy was stabbed in his new bedford neighborhood and tried to run home for help to die

he didn't get a chance to experience life. >> reporter: surveillance video of the suspects attacking the victim in the temple landing housing projects wednesday night helped them make the quick arrest. louis rafael class faced accessory to murder after the fact as well as assault and battery. 16 year old boy was in court for assault and battery with a deadly weapon. >> we do our thing. we don't get into it's them south end people that want to start the problem with us. >> reporter: in total 3 people were stabbed. police say a 16 year old boy and a 22 year old man are expected to be okay. distraught over the senseless loss over a 15 year old's life. >> he was an outgoing kid. big hearted. he didn't even get to graduate high school. >> reporter: according to the

2 have been arrested. more arrests are possible. those charges could be upgraded to murder. kimberly bookman 7 news. >> anchor: a teenager caught in the cross fire in dorchester. that teen 18 year old massary is fighting for her life in critical condition. she was shot outside of a friend's house early this morning. the teen's aunt says da shay was at a friend's house. when she went to see going on that's when the shots rang out. >> the tenants upstairs i guess they were having a dispute with someone else. my niece thought um, it was her friend. so she came around to see what was happening. totally unrelated. they started shooting at each other. my niece decided to run back home. between her running home and the

>> anchor: no arrests have been made and police are investigating. and a dog was also injured in the early morning shooting. boston police officers took the dog and his owner for medical treatment. john cocoa spoke with the dog's owner in a story you'll on just one station. >> reporter: that dog owner is extremely thankful. he knows without those officers or that sergeant his dog wouldn't have gotten the treatment he needed. >> that dog put himself in front for him. >> reporter: shots rang out in this dorchester neighborhood. it's here ricky weeks and his dog were out for a walk. >> as soon as i turned the corner that's when i heard the shots and i ducked. and my dog he bolted. >> reporter: weeks said he found his dog. he noticed it had been hit in the left leg. >> the officers was nice enough to bring me to the hospital and

>> anchor: with the zika virus spreading in south florida there's a race around the world to find a vaccine. >> anchor: some key discoveries are being made right here in boston. >> on this side are the molecular areas. >> reporter: dr. dan brook shows us around the lab where researchers are racing to find a zika vaccine. >> this is where we do a variety of different anti-body tests. >> reporter: in 6 months they've made real progress. >> the vaccinat no detected virus. basically the vaccine was 100% effective in these animal models. >> reporter: transmitted by mosquito and sexual contact the zika virus is spreading rapidly through south america and the carribean. it's linked to a condition called microcephaly which causes severe birth defects. researchers are working in

army research center in maryland. the team in maryland is developing a traditional vaccine similar to the flu shot. stitching dna from the zika virus to healthy dna. >> you can design exactly what pieces you want to put in the vaccine. >> reporter: for aroka the work he does in the lab is personal. he's from brazil and knows people cases of zika infection thousands of cases of microcephaly. developing a vaccine that help those people is important to me. >> reporter: who would get the vaccine? >> it would seem reasonable to me young healthy women. as well as travelers to endemic regions. >> reporter: the next step
