to work in the sos song. >> it is perfect. let's get to the top story. the breaking news overnight. police in mississippi say they arrested a man accused of killing two nuns in their home. nbc's janet shambian is in mississippi this morning. >> reporter: good morning. he is a 46-year-old man from the nearby town of durant. he is charged with two counts capital murder. rodney sanders was a suspect, but now they have enough to charge him. police say they have their man. 46-year-old rodney earl sanders of kosciusko, mississippi. charged with killing two nuns in durant this week. >> devastating. >> reporter: they were well known by their first names.

in one of the poorest counties, they settled with a wish. to serve. >> we make a difference in people's lives. we never know what that differs is. >> reporter: for many of little means, the nuns, both 68, were the only health care providers people have known. serving as doctors and nurses and friends. for years, they have given tirelessly. ultimately, they gave lives. >> a double homicide. this is the worst thing to happen to us since katrina. >> reporter: the women were found stabbed in their home. a back door ajar. their missing car discovered a mile away. >> their deaths are a shock to us. we are deeply grieved. >> reporter: police say sanders was a person of interest early on and after an interview friday, they had enough to

treasured members of a community. >> they were the most beautiful women that ever drawn breath into their bodies. they were totally giving of themselves to everyone. >> reporter: authorities have not said how sanders was implicated or has a personal connection to the nuns. he is described as a drifter in the area. meanwhile services for the two sisters set for next week. sheinelle, back to you. >> a tropical storm brewing in the caribbean is close to landfall. that could cause problems for folks along the gulf coast in florida. dave price is here and tracking the storm. what are we seeing? >> let's walk to the weather wall and take a look. this is a busy time. typically august is really the high point in the atlantic hurricane season. as you can see, it is living true to form. these four areas are what we are most concerned about.

islands. this is the tropical wave we are watching. in the next five days, a 40% chance this will again strengthen into a tropical storm. we will keep an eye on this one right now. let's look at the things that are going to contribute to the strengthening or weakening. the warm water in the gulf at 90 degrees. that's fuel to the fire. there are also winds which are shearing this introducing dry air and that may weaken it. again, wel chance this continues to strengthen. two models, one the american model which takes it into the gulf state, and the euro, takes it into the southeastern of florida. no matter what happens, we will see heavy rains roll over the peninsula of florida right now. locally upwards of 5 or more inches over the next several days. it will be a wet weekend. let's see what we are expecting over the next several days.
