>> anchor: we begin with breaking news at 6:00. smoke and flames shooting out of a building in south brink. take a look at this video. intense fire. that fire has now gone to six alarms. >> anchor: that fire broke out earlier this afternoon right in downtown southbridge. in a building that houses a boarding house as well as a local business. let's get right to the scene. >> reporter: well, nicole, this is still an active scene out here. you can see behind me, this is a six-alarm fire. we know that it's about 98% contained. one person was rescued from

to the hospital. treated for heat exhaustion. but has since been released. take a look at this video of the flames from a little while ago. this building is mixed with businesses and apartments above it. firefighters say 12-15 people have been displaced by this massive fire. we also know three or four storefronts were affected. it is not clear at this point how this fire began. but listen to sound from a man who heard an explosion and called 911. along with the fire chief. >> we heard an explosion. and we ran to the back of the store where the door was open. and we seen the flames. we ran back to the store. grabbed the fire extinguishers. we ran down the side street here and ran into the alley. we were trying to put the fire out before anybody else. >> the part of the problem was you can see from the building, there is not a lot of space. the alleys are very narrow. the building has been modified and remodeled a number of

it is a difficult job to even get inside to make an assessment of what was going on. >> here is another live look as firefighters continue to try and make sure that this fire is 100% contained. you can see the smoke coming out of the roof there. as firefighters make sure that there is no more hot spots left in this building. the fire chief says they are now in the process of rotating these crews because these firefighters have been fighting these flames all day. again, what we know right now is that pe died... rescued from inside this billing. the fire chief says he is expected to be okay. live in southbridge, 7 news. >> anchor: a developing story in manchester, new hampshire. the body of a man is found on the bleachers at a popular park. police are calling his death suspicious. keli o'hara is live at the park with more. >> reporter: nicole, police have been out here all day long investigating this death.

neighbors tell us first thing this morning, they discovered a man's body:. someone discovered it. they called 9 11. it was along the third base line of the park. in this very quiet neighborhood. neighbors tell us that man was beaten to death. now, crime scene investigators along with the attorney general's office have been out here all day long walking the field. and the park here. looking for evidence. all detectives will say, though, is that the man's death appears to be suspicious. neighbors say he was murdered. that doesn't sit well, obviously, with many people who live around here. take a listen. >> we have kids. we have a dog. and it's just... it can happen anywhere. kit happen anywhere. you know, we feel very secure here. and it's sad. >> reporter: one woman we spoke to said she has lived here 54 years. nothing like this has ever happened. here, again, manchester police along with the attorney general's office up here in new hampshire investigating a suspicious death. but neighbors tell us that man was beaten to death.

police asap. >> anchor: a bicyclist killed by a commuter rail train in somerville. police say the man rode through the lowered gates earlier this afternoon. and was hit by a fitchburg line train. detectives are investigating. but at this point, they say the gates were working properly. a scary scene at town neck beach in sandwich this this afternoon. emergency responders say a 34-year-old man was spotted face-down in the water for at least three minutes he was pulled out and rescuers performed cpr. the man was conscious when he was air-lifted to a hospital in rhode island. at this point no, update on his condition. >> anchor: dartmouth police arrest a fugitive wanted in new york. earlier this week, officers arrested a 29-year-old jose duprey of fall river for shop-lifting. he had several outstanding warrants, including one for drug charges in new york. duprey is currently being charged here in massachusetts

false name, and being a fugitive. >> police in somerville investigate a creepy crime. shay say a man broke into the home of a tufts university student and wandered into the bedroom while he slept. kris anderson has details as well as reaction. >> kris: people who live in this somerville neighborhood are being a little more cautious after a bold break-in on their block early saturday morning. >> i am surprised. this is the first time i have heard of something like that happening in the area. it is a little scary. >> reporter: a sleeping inside this home on college avenue when he woke up around 5:40 a.m. and saw a strange man standing in the bedroom. investigators say the suspect ran out of the house and according to witnesses, got away in a dark-colored four-door vehicle. >> serious stuff. you wonder, and this isn't the first time it has happened, too. you know, we have to take it seriously. >> reporter: tufts university police and officers from the somerville police department steched area for the suspect but were unable to track him down. the people who live inside the

him behind an apartment building. that is when officers shot the man. now, police were initially responding to ace dur bans. it is unclear what led up to the chase and the shooting. that suspect was taken to a rhode island hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. tonight investigators are still trying to figure out what sparked a massive fire on plum island. when firefighters responded to the home on 20th street yesterday, it was completely engulfed in flames. that house and then a few nearby cars were destroyed. fortunately no the home at the time. several firefighters, though, were treated for heat exhaustion. once the investigation is complete, that home will have to be torn down. >> reporter: now the weather now. an absolutely gorgeous day in boston. and we are keeping a close eye on the forecast for back to school week. plus, something new brewing in the tropics. meteorologist bri eggers has a first look. >> bri: yeah, nick. about three areas we are watching in the tropics right now. first, category three hurricane gaston.

that muggy start, i was talking about, but look at those temperatures, rising to near 90 in some spots. that is not out of the question for us. the big question in the forecast always is when can we expect nast rain that we desperately need? dry on tuesday. but then another front makes its way through wednesday into thursday. it looks like that front might stall out to kind of bring us some rain for an amount of time. as we get into thursday. so we will have to cross our fingers and keep tracking. also will push any tropical activity out to the sea for us so. we are not anticipating any direct impact from anything going on in the tropics. we are nice and toasty to start off the workweek. then look at this. fall makes an appearance as we head toward the end of the week. it is really from the beach to back to school for many as we get into tomorrow. you might need that swelter or the jacket for early morning. but i'm sure or sweater comes home crumpled up in the back-pack.
