>> anchor: we begin with breaking news at 6:00. smoke and flames shooting out of a building in south brink. take a look at this video. intense fire. that fire has now gone to six alarms. >> anchor: that fire broke out earlier this afternoon right in downtown southbridge. in a building that houses a boarding house as well as a local business. let's get right to the scene. >> reporter: well, nicole, this is still an active scene out here. you can see behind me, this is a six-alarm fire. we know that it's about 98% contained. one person was rescued from

to the hospital. treated for heat exhaustion. but has since been released. take a look at this video of the flames from a little while ago. this building is mixed with businesses and apartments above it. firefighters say 12-15 people have been displaced by this massive fire. we also know three or four storefronts were affected. it is not clear at this point how this fire began. but listen to sound from a man who heard an explosion and called 911. along with the fire chief. >> we heard an explosion. and we ran to the back of the store where the door was open. and we seen the flames. we ran back to the store. grabbed the fire extinguishers. we ran down the side street here and ran into the alley. we were trying to put the fire out before anybody else. >> the part of the problem was you can see from the building, there is not a lot of space. the alleys are very narrow. the building has been modified and remodeled a number of

it is a difficult job to even get inside to make an assessment of what was going on. >> here is another live look as firefighters continue to try and make sure that this fire is 100% contained. you can see the smoke coming out of the roof there. as firefighters make sure that there is no more hot spots left in this building. the fire chief says they are now in the process of rotating these crews because these firefighters have been fighting these flames all day. again, what we know right now is that pe died... rescued from inside this billing. the fire chief says he is expected to be okay. live in southbridge, 7 news. >> anchor: a developing story in manchester, new hampshire. the body of a man is found on the bleachers at a popular park. police are calling his death suspicious. keli o'hara is live at the park with more. >> reporter: nicole, police have been out here all day long investigating this death.

neighbors tell us first thing this morning, they discovered a man's body:. someone discovered it. they called 9 11. it was along the third base line of the park. in this very quiet neighborhood. neighbors tell us that man was beaten to death. now, crime scene investigators along with the attorney general's office have been out here all day long walking the field. and the park here. looking for evidence. all detectives will say, though, is that the man's death appears to be suspicious. neighbors say he was murdered. that doesn't sit well, obviously, with many people who live around here. take a listen. >> we have kids. we have a dog. and it's just... it can happen anywhere. kit happen anywhere. you know, we feel very secure here. and it's sad. >> reporter: one woman we spoke to said she has lived here 54 years. nothing like this has ever happened. here, again, manchester police along with the attorney general's office up here in new hampshire investigating a suspicious death. but neighbors tell us that man was beaten to death.

police asap. >> anchor: a bicyclist killed by a commuter rail train in somerville. police say the man rode through the lowered gates earlier this afternoon. and was hit by a fitchburg line train. detectives are investigating. but at this point, they say the gates were working properly. a scary scene at town neck beach in sandwich this this afternoon. emergency responders say a 34-year-old man was spotted face-down in the water for at least three minutes he was pulled out and rescuers performed cpr. the man was conscious when he was air-lifted to a hospital in rhode island. at this point no, update on his condition. >> anchor: dartmouth police arrest a fugitive wanted in new york. earlier this week, officers arrested a 29-year-old jose duprey of fall river for shop-lifting. he had several outstanding warrants, including one for drug charges in new york. duprey is currently being charged here in massachusetts

false name, and being a fugitive. >> police in somerville investigate a creepy crime. shay say a man broke into the home of a tufts university student and wandered into the bedroom while he slept. kris anderson has details as well as reaction. >> kris: people who live in this somerville neighborhood are being a little more cautious after a bold break-in on their block early saturday morning. >> i am surprised. this is the first time i have heard of something like that happening in the area. it is a little scary. >> reporter: a sleeping inside this home on college avenue when he woke up around 5:40 a.m. and saw a strange man standing in the bedroom. investigators say the suspect ran out of the house and according to witnesses, got away in a dark-colored four-door vehicle. >> serious stuff. you wonder, and this isn't the first time it has happened, too. you know, we have to take it seriously. >> reporter: tufts university police and officers from the somerville police department steched area for the suspect but were unable to track him down. the people who live inside the

but those who lived nearby are concerned. especially because the suspect is still on the loose. >> i do feel safe. that doesn't mean that you are safe. you know, just because you feel that way doesn't mean that, you know, you are in your own zone. you have to take precautions. >> reporter: with classes set to begin soon, there are a lot of students moving in and out of this neighborhood. police want to make sure they are doing their part to keep themselves safe. >> we just have to be more careful. like, looking out for one another. and taking step to lock our doors. >> even our neighbors next-door, we know these people. they are great people. we try to keep an eye out for them. they try to keep an eye out for us. hopefully, it won't happen again. >> reporter: in somerville, kris anderson, 7 news. >> rhode island police investigating an officer-involved shooting that followed a chase that happened just before 2:00 this morning in woonsocket. police say they were chasing a

him behind an apartment building. that is when officers shot the man. now, police were initially responding to ace dur bans. it is unclear what led up to the chase and the shooting. that suspect was taken to a rhode island hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. tonight investigators are still trying to figure out what sparked a massive fire on plum island. when firefighters responded to the home on 20th street yesterday, it was completely engulfed in flames. that house and then a few nearby cars were destroyed. fortunately no the home at the time. several firefighters, though, were treated for heat exhaustion. once the investigation is complete, that home will have to be torn down. >> reporter: now the weather now. an absolutely gorgeous day in boston. and we are keeping a close eye on the forecast for back to school week. plus, something new brewing in the tropics. meteorologist bri eggers has a first look. >> bri: yeah, nick. about three areas we are watching in the tropics right now. first, category three hurricane gaston.

the season. again, the track not going to impact us directly. it is going to send some waves in our direction for tomorrow. and also tropical depression eight as well as nine. you remember nine. formerly known as 99-l. we will start with td-8 here. expected to become a tropical storm as we get into monday, possibly tuesday. and making its way by the coastal outer banks of north carolina. and again, td-9 also expected to become a tropical storm days. now it is a race to see which one of those is our eighth named storm. that would be hermin, the next one. ian. back here next to home, we are enjoying the sunshine. summer-like warmth for now. a fall-like feel by the end of the week. more on the forecast in a bit. >> anchor: now to the race for the white house. both hillary clinton and donald trump are taking a rare day off from the campaign trail. but that hasn't stopped their supporters from taking shots

>> anchor: a family tragedy for an n.b.a. superstar. two brothers arrested for murdering the cousin of dwayne wade. police say wade's cousin but r was struck by a stray bullet while she was pushing one of her children in a stroller. >> anchor: dan when isman has the latest on the investigation. >> reporter: family and friends shed tears and share their sense of loss. >> a life the gone. too soon. >> reporter: aldridge who lost a sister to gun violence had just registered her children for school friday. investigators don't believe al drink was the target. two brothers both felons out on parole very, been charged with the murder. >> these two offenders are the prime example of the challenge

>> anchor: a young girl gets a special surprise last night. the nine-year-old was attending a kenny chesn the crowd. standing on the stage, she was presented with a vintage patriots helmet signed by the singer himself. there is a picture of it right there. last night's concert was the end of chesney's spread the love tour. mom posted these photos of her daughter on twitter where the love came pouring in. >> i bet that nine-year-old was the envy of all the girls in the class. all the 20-year-olds, 30-year-olds. >> i was going to say, there were moms there that were like "pick me, please." she has a pretty cool souvenir,

last night, great. also nice today, bri. >> absolutely beautiful. this is the last blast for summer for many of us. what a blast it was. 76 right now in boston. low 8's away from the coastline. we have a sea breeze. that will stick around through the afternoon. and evening hours. now, high pressure has been keeping things dry for us. but it's also been giving us the sunshine. you see this front off to our west and northwest. already firing up some strong storms in northern new england. a couple of severe thunderstorm warnings popping up in northern vermont earlier now, that line, unfortunately, as it travels closer to our backyard, will kind of break apart and peter out. and really, it is only about a 10% chance to get any of that much-needed rain. looks like the best chance will be in the northwestern part of the commonwealth before we clear the clouds out for a very hot monday ahead of us. overnight tonight, partly cloudy. a bit muggy. especially toward morning. 63-68. mild temperatures for us. with the southwest flow.

that muggy start, i was talking about, but look at those temperatures, rising to near 90 in some spots. that is not out of the question for us. the big question in the forecast always is when can we expect nast rain that we desperately need? dry on tuesday. but then another front makes its way through wednesday into thursday. it looks like that front might stall out to kind of bring us some rain for an amount of time. as we get into thursday. so we will have to cross our fingers and keep tracking. also will push any tropical activity out to the sea for us so. we are not anticipating any direct impact from anything going on in the tropics. we are nice and toasty to start off the workweek. then look at this. fall makes an appearance as we head toward the end of the week. it is really from the beach to back to school for many as we get into tomorrow. you might need that swelter or the jacket for early morning. but i'm sure or sweater comes home crumpled up in the back-pack.
