prep school is revealing her name and showing her face. >> it's been two years now since the whole ordeal. and i feel ready to stand up and own what happened to me. i'm going make sure that other people, other girls, other boys, know they can own it, too. that they don't have to be ashamed either. >> reporter: a now 17-year-old sitting down with savannah guthrie to talk about her 2014 encounter with owen labrie. a popular senior at st. paul's prep school that l closely watched trial. labrie was convicted of sexual assault. but acquitted on the more serious charge of felony rape. >> he said that they didn't believe that he did it knowingly. and that frustrated me a lot. because he definitely did do it knowingly. the fact that he was still able to pull the wool over a group of people's eyes bothered m.s. me a lot. and just disgusted me. >> reporter: she wanted to

trial made it tough. >> one of my old friends that were boys would talk to me. they didn't even look me in the eyes. i guess they were uncomfortable or what. i don't know. >> reporter: she left st. paul's. the family filed a civil lawsuit, failing the school failed to meet its basic obligation to protect children entrusted to its care. they say it is not about the money. >> we feel an obligation that this not happen to any future >> unfortunately, it seems like the school's reputation became more important rather than supporting our daughter. >> reporter: st. paul's released a statement saying "we categorically deny that there ever existed at the school a culture or tradition of sexual assault. however, there is no denying the survivor's experience caused us to look anew at the culture and brought about positive changes." as for the victim, she deals with the effects of what

years ago. hiding in her closet during panic attacks sometimes so her little sister doesn't see her like that. >> she comes into my room sometimes. she will come into my closet when i'm rocking on the floor. and punching my legs trying to get myself to calm down. and she will try to give me the biggest hug. she will say "you are okay. our day." i can't imagine how scary it is do this alone. and i don't want anybody else to be alone anymore. i don't. >> reporter: well, tough to do this interview. she says she did it because she wants other people to feel empowered just like she does now. and know that they have a right to say no. she is, in fact, starting a new campaign for survivors and launching the hash tag to go along with it. i have the right to. >> christa: some intense weather lurking offer the

turned north. it is now headed for the outer banks. and it is expected to bring winds of more than 40 miles per hour along with some heavy rain. here is more from kill devil hills, north carolina. >> here on the outer banks of north carolina, we are watching tropical depression number eight. it is going to be a brush-by. the locals are not concerned at all. >> hopefully, it goes by quick and i can be back at the beach. >> the worst of this will be some gusty winds. downpours later today and tonight before it makes the turn and heads out to sea on wednesday. we have lost a little bit of sand. there is a bit of a berm here. high tide this morning only came up to about here. last night's high tide went all the way up to the lifeguard stand almost. this moves out. then they will be watching tropical depression number nine down in fact gulf of mexico. that is forecast to track well enough offshore on friday that we don't get a direct impact. once again, it will be a surf

for nbc news, in kill devil hills, north carolina. >> christa: all right. our weather here is absolutely stunning out there today. as we close in on the month of september, it definitely is feeling like it out there today. >> reporter: little taste of fall out there this morning. suburbs down in the up 40er's and lower 50's. of course, the nice bounce-back with the low humidity and all of that sunshine in place. some wispy clouds to mix in 76 right now in boston. upper 70's to near f 80. even hit 80 in norwood right now. we have the temperatures that will continue to climb inland into the mid-80's. although staying put in the mid-7's to near 80 degrees along the coastline. thanks to the sea breeze kicking on. in dew point levels in the comfortable category right there. in the 50's. we had the transition yesterday afternoon. we have kept that low humidity around. also today, the winds are lighter. it's been easier for the sea breezes to kick. in that is why i expect

hang in there in the mid-70's to near 80. meantime, 85, 86, a common number across much of the interior. as we go forward in the forecast: we will heat it up on wednesday. some showers on thursday. fast cooldown to end the week. >> anchor: a developing story in maine this noon. republican governor paul lepage says she is considering resigning. this is in the wake of that expletive-filled voice mail message he left to a fellow lepage has come under fire now from other new england governors. in fact in, a radio interview, when asked if he will finish his term, lepage says he is "looking at all of his options." new at noon, cell phone video of a dump truck after it accidentally ended up in a gold fish pond in lynn. there is the truck right there floating along. it happened early this morning. police say the driver's brakes failed. fortunately that, driver was able to walk out of the truck, get out of the pond safely, the truck was pulled out a little later.

of those students are looking for new rides. after several of the school bus routes were cut to save money. victoria warren live from mald within more on this. i can imagine some of these parents are scrambling to find out a solution here. >> yeah. they were scrambling. they say really what was the hardest part for them is they feel they were not given enough notice that this was going to happen. fvrbs that the school district was cutting the buses for kindergarten through the sixth grade. the district, though, they say they are doing everything they ca parents. first day of school jitters in overdrive after budget cuts eliminate most school buses in malden. >> being a single parent, like i say, it is too much stress. >> they were told a week or two ahead of time. not so much. >> reporter: cindy says her kids were enrolled in a different school, but when she found out the buses were gone, she had to scramble for a school within walking

>> the two of them were getting bused over to the ferry-way. one of them has autism. he was affected this year. s if he wasn't too happy. they were going to have to take the regular bus. i have another one that has disabilities, too. he is in fourth grade: i would have had to put them on a bus. >> reporter: city buses are exactly what some parents are counting on. the m.b.t.a. giving them bus passes. the school district also says they are trying to help coordinate car-pools. but some parents, they say saying only a small percentage of students were actually bused. >> the money is better in the classroom. i mean, definitely. there is no need for that money to be spent on busing. >> reporter: for the most part, the parents that i spoke to, whether they were directly affected by the busing or not, they say what worries them the most is that the money saved by eliminating these buses, they fear won't come close to helping with future budget problems.

>> christa: we are covering more news today. police on the saej of a serious crash. at least they were earlier today. in manchester, new hampshire on bridge street. at least four people were hurt. and some of them were even trapped inside a car. you can see the front ends of both cars were just heavily damaged. no word on the cause of the crash. and in bristol, new hampshire, a man died after trying to save four drowning children. police say the children were playing in the smith river. one of them started to struggle. that is when the 39-year-old at some point, though, he went under the water and didn't come back up. good samaritans then were able to jump in and help out those four children. police say the children were playing when one of them started to struggle. and again, that 39-year-old jumped in to help. we will move on to this fire. informs tiverton, rhode island. they are now saying this mill fire is suspicious. the building went up in flames early monday morning. and investigators believe it is suspicious because there is no power on in the mill.

tomorrow. mid-80's to near 90 degrees. tropics heating up. for more on that, over to danielle. >> danielle: a category two hurricane, gaston. it is tracking east, nooerbs. and it will decrease to a category one storm by friday. and then a tropical storm into the weekend. and then we are also watching a couple of other tropical depressions. this one, tropical depression eight. actually, tropical storm warnings were just issued forth and this system could bring areas up to five inches of rain before it tracks northwest. and then also watching tropical depression nine. and this is in the gulf of mexico. as it moves over florida and southeast georgia, it could bring up to ten inches of rain for some areas. and likely going to see tropical watches, tropical storm watches issued as we head into tonight. for more on this impact here at home, back to you. >> chris: all right. main impact really over the

garj... joseph gargiulo is accused of wanting to plant bomb in police stations and kill officers. the f.b.i. also received information that gargiulo wished he had assassinated president obama while the president played golf on martha's vineyard. >> he doesn't have anti-government views or anti-president views. not considered mainstream. certainly, not exceptionally radical. stem from a messy divorce. gargiulo's ex-wife has a restraining order out against him and they are in the middle of a custody battle. >> there is a long history of false allegations on behalf of the mother. >> reporter: during an f.b.i. raid of the home, agents say they found parts for an ar-15 rifle along with ammunition which would be in violation of his restraining order. agents say they also found chemicals that could be combined to make explosives as well as handwritten notes

>> i have known mr. gargiulo for about 12 years. i know what kind of man he is. this is not something he would ever do. >> christa: investigators trying to figure out what caused this fire at a paper factory in pittsfield. the fire began last night. an official on the scene says jb paper factory has been closed and vacant for a while now. and there was no power or gas to that building. officials are calling the fire suspicious. a brockton man facing charg today afterpolice say he sexually assaulted a teenage girl. investigators say this 15-year-old's parents confronted the 24-year-old suspect on sunday, after he had been sending inappropriate text messages to her for several weeks. that subpoena is due in court in november. >> christa: new details today on the duck boat crash that happened on storrow drive. the driver has been cited and fined $100. police say he drove the duck boat in to storrow drive and

the roof. luckily no, one onboard was hurt. and firefighters battling this huge brush fire in wilmington. sky 7 hd over the scene monday night. route 38 in wilmington also had to be closed for a time. you can see the crews on the ground checking for hot spots and then soaking the brush right there. the north carolina bureau of investigation released monday the audio of a state trooper and dispatch personnel after the trooper fatally shot a deaf man in front of his north so during this 7-minute stretch, the trooper jermaine saunders radios dispatch that the driver isn't pulling over but is going faster, reaching speeds of more than a hundred miles per hour. later, saunders radios in that shots have been fired. >> shots fired. one down. shots fired. one down. >> christa: this brings new

that incident still under investigation. >> kris: wait until you see. this a huge pileup on a highway in new york. it happened in binghamton. the track or the-trailer crashes into the area, pushing those cars to the side of the road. witnesses, though, rushed over to pull a woman out of a burning car. ten cars, in all, involved in the pile-up. amazingly no, one was seriously hurt. new york city sink holes swallowing partially visible by monday night. emergency crews on the scene say the vehicle started to sink when that sink hole opened up beneath it. the hole was created by a broken water main. >> kris: still ahead, plenty
