assess, the cape and the islands and bp -- buzzards bay, southern rhode island. we have winds 70 miles an hour in hermine. this is the 11:00 a.m. update from the national hurricane center. it's a slow process but it gets to new england bury kicking out to sea. in terms of being a post tropical system, the strongest will be the next 12-24 hours. the strongest winds inth next several hours into early evening. one band, squall line, heavy squall line east of nantucket. you've already seen winds 58 miles an hour. some showers backing into the cape. as they encounter dry air they fizzle out. we have had sunshine break out and it's going to be a while from boston to worcester and merrimack valley and metrowest before we get rain. i expect late in the day and into the evening, some of that

as the track gets closer to new england it will keep showers in the forecast for tuesday. although the winds tomorrow won't be as strong as what we're seeing outside this afternoon. nantucket 58-mile-an-hour winds. the vineyard close to 50. where the strongest winds will be. mashpee, plymouth and falmouth all close to 40. a few gusts close to 50. ' to 60 across the island. you're saying storm? what storm. gusting to 25 miles an hour and we have sunshine. filtered but breaking through. later on today, that afternoon, gusts 30 to 40 near the coast. most of the rain we see would be southeastern mass over the next couple of days. more on the forecast ahead. in massachusetts, ferry services have been suspended so keep it in mind. it's because of the high surf expected.

norris road. the woman drove through a stop sign before slamming into the cruiser sending the vehicles into nearby yards. the drivers suffered minor injuries. >> two people were taken to the hospital with major injuries after a crash in waltham. a fire official says one person was ejected. it happened on route 128 northbound at exit 26. the people in the second car involved were not seriously hurt. now a developing story. a police officers is off the job facing charges for inappropriate conduct involving a student. the officer was arrested saturday. he was on duty when the incident happened. he's now facing several charges including lewdness and witness intimidation. the university is investigating the incident and released a statement that reads in part, framingham state university regard the safety of our students, faculty and staff as paramount and our duty to the

lose strength as it goes to the west-northwest over the next couple of days. this is a long duration storm as it's been on the maps forever. it seems like forever. we're going to be talking about it at least through wednesday. thursday and friday it picks up speed and moves off to the east. not to say it's going to storm the whole time. it's location dependent and you've seen that today. winds gusting shy of 60 across nantucket and we have squall lines moving in. we've also seen in the meantime, sunshine and a beautiful day in the city of boston with a breeze 20-25 miles an hour. eventually the rain will work in across eastern mass. it's been fighting off this dry air that's allowed for that sunshine to break out. it may take near the end of the day into the evening before we can throw showers back in across boston and much of metrowest. so here we go. nantucket leading the board at 58 miles an hour.

the next couple of hours, really the next several hours, from now until 6:00 p.m. is where the core of the strongest winds will be. tomorrow, even though the storm system is close close are, the winds won't be as strong. across the buoys, mid 50s. that's what we expect the next several hours close to the islands through the afternoon into the evening. eventually pushing in more sh sister-in-law you -- system, yon see in wednesday a couple of showers lingering. this afternoon, to the early evenings, pushing 50 plus across the cape and the islands. not as strong as across the cape itself versus the islands. tomorrow the winds nowhere near as strong as we've seen today so far. we're talking about tomorrow's winds on the order of 30 to gusts near 40 for the islands

possibility cape and buzzards bay. scattered possibility across the islands. the trees have been weakened. buoy reports running 15-20 footed waves so there's a lot of rough surf, rip currents and minor coastal flooding. pockets of it. more towards minor to moderate beach erosion. for more on the forecast, over to danielle. >> we've seen strong winds but the rain is a little bit late to the game. so as you were talking about, hermine j spin off the east coast. we're seeing the outer bands of the rain over the cape and the islands right now. heading into the next couple days into this afternoon, it will take into this afternoon and this evening for that rain to become more widespread into the city of boston and across eastern massachusetts. tomorrow, that rain looking to be even more widespread. that's partially because the air won't be as dry for tomorrow. look at the dew points for today. they're in the 50s.

point. as it gets closer to new england the next couple days the center will lose strength so we're talking a minimal post tropical storm into wednesday and thursday and gets kicked out to sea. for us it will influence the weather not only today but tuesday and again on wednesday. look at the wind gusts. these are the story the last couple hours across nantucket and the vineyard, pushing 50 miles an hour, sustained at 40. t to reside along the south coast of new england through the afternoon into the early evening where we'll exceed 50 miles an hour at times across the islands. especially when the squalls come in as they're doing now across nantucket with bursts of heavy rain and strong wind gusts. enough to knock-down isolated trees and power lines in the area. about to see this extension of a squall line into chatham the next half hour. north and west of the cape, a

late in the afternoon to get any showers close to the boston area and erode some of the dry air that's in place. so we have seen sunshine, just a breezy day at that for much of the area. the height of the storm really again against the cape and islands as hermine continues its journey off to the northwest. you can see that wobble westbound. as that continues to occur, we are pushing in the strong winds that are south of the new england coastline into the islands. 52 mile-per-hour gusts right now down across nanet plymouth, 29 in beverly. you can see where we are containing some of the strongest winds to far southeastern massachusetts. buoy reporting 56 mile-per-hour gusts closer to the center of hermine. that will continue to see strong wind gusts pivoting into portions of southern new england. we may push close to 60 again across nantucket this afternoon into this evening. strong winds across the cape. gusty winds but not nearly as strong from boston north and west of the gusts between about 30 and 35 mile-per-hour. now tomorrow when the storm
