bomb. >> flames spiralling out of control in halifax. the whipping winds proving to be a dangerous obstacle for firefighters. >> and for julien edelman there's no place like mommy high pressure his emotional message to his adopted city. 7 news at 11 starts now. tonight on seven. new england side swiped by a storm. the seas jumped up again and they are getting worse. you're getting sandblasted for sure. hermine is s >> and there's the wind whipping, howling on beach in orleans. hermine is starting to lose her strength. but she is still making waves up the atlantic coastline. this video taken from a boat off the coast of jersey. you can see the waves are still chop and quite dangerous. >> here in new england the rain has all but disappeared. strong wind gutsz will be linger concern overnight into morning

advisory? >> yes that's correct. she has weakened since earlier this morning you can see it on satellite loop here all of these warm colors earlier today. now gone. showing that hermine is weakening. so winds down to 65 miles per hour. that's trucked right near red l we're not experiencing 65 miles per hour winds anywhere in southern new england we're not going to forest of tonight. wort wind and rain is done. latest from hurricane center it gets the here, what happens after that? >> it actually so hermine is going to die slow death south of new england over next couple of days technically we still do have tropical storm warning for cape as well a coast. that likely will remain in effect overnight tonight. strongest of winds they happen this afternoon gusting 65 to 60 miles an hour. right now these numbers are healthy approachable but nothing like we saw earlier highest gusting to 22. martha's vineyard. a gust to 37 miles per houp. those winds will continue to

by tomorrow just a healthy breeze. how about the rain we've seen bands of rain moving from ocean with heaviest rain on the cape and islands. as the rain bands move farther west they encounter dry air. so we were kind of hoping maybe get a little bit of beneficial rain but not even that will happen. just an isolated shower possible tomorrow. we'll talk more about that in a few minutes. all right jeremy. as you saw and heard earlier orleans was areaest hit hardest where we find amaka ubaka with an update on conditions there right now. well adam, the rain has been going on and off all day. but you can see behind me that winds are still strong. you can see grass and also these benches that have been toppled over. officials are warning people to stay away from this beach because of the dangerous conditions that are expected to continue for the next several hours. heavy winds and constant rain on the beach. effects of hermine felt into the evening hours. >> it's really windy.

sure. i feel like the grids of needles in your face and everything. >> tractors rolled on to the beach earlier to pick up and remove every life guard stand so hermine's high winds don't blow them away. >> just stay away from the ocean right now. it's a pretty angry sea. during the mid afternoon waves hit heights of eight feet in orleans. rip currents so dangerous, officials closed the beach and people were warned to stay out of the water. severe rip currents, any time someone goes in the water we would have to send our lifesaving personnel out. life guard said high tide w to come in off the beach. they wouldn't let us stay any more. they taped it all off. blistering rain and wind didn't keep people from taking pictures of the massive waves. you can still stand up, but the phone said keep the phone still while taking pictures. that was not too easy. orleans is also expecting major erosion due to hermine. >> weaver basically losing all sand that builtal over summer. for some winds and rain couldn't

>> wed sand i forget what sand tasted like. you stand there and just put my arms out and mother nature's fury. now you can see this caution tape is still up officials warning people to continue to stay away. one issue officials will be dealing erosion from sand. at this point it's not clear if this beach will be reopened tomorrow morning. because of the waves were so high tonight. but we'll continue to keep checking and keep you at 5:00 a.m. for now we're live in orleans, amaka ubaka, 7 news night team. a life guard's m west port forced to pull people off beaches today and close them down because of strong rip currents. brandon gunnoe continuing our coverage live in west port. looks kind of nasty there, brandon. well it is still windy. and we have still been seeing some rain, kim. that's right life guards decided it was too dangerous for swimming and sifrning they closed the water.

both wind gusts up to 35 to 50 miles per hour. it was not a good beach day. >> gusts of wind blowing rain sideways as waves are blown out to sea. residents and visitors parking to take it all in. >> ever since hurricane sandy irene rolled through i think a lot homeowners in area just anxious to make sure nothing that really is of any size that rolls through. >> on horse neck beach in west port this labor day high surf and heavy winds. warnings stop people from coming to beach. we were expecting building swells throughout day anywhere from 4 to six feet maybe a little bit bigger occasionally. we closed water to swimming and surfing as well today high winds on beach sent bags flying and blowing sand cover the walkways. at least two guys ignored warnings and took dip before life guards called them in. fishing boats were tied to docs with 12 foot seas expected off shore. they didn't take any chances. >> i just throw on some extra lines on boat.

from northeast wind around here. swells with nor'easter like winds going out to sea is what life guards were concerned about this holiday weekend. >> it gusting up to 40, 50 miles an hour at times down here. that makes it a little bit more treacherous even for surfing as well. not easy to pull into waves. you know, obviously if you're out behind the breaker this is wind pushing you, you know away further and further away from the beach. it's, you can get yourself into a tough situation. >> okay, here at 11, we're still in light rain with gusts of wind the rain has blowing sideways. a little less than few hours ago. it should be continuing to calm down even after midnight according to jr. live here in west port, brandon gunnoe. a truck crushed when tree comes crashing down in taunton. strong winds knocked that tree on to taunton man's work truck. he came out to check on this is garage when aheard reports of strong winds. luckily no one was in truck when tree fell.

appears to be a burnt rag partially inside. >> the grass charred. but no damage to the officer's home. >> bpd and boston fire now investigating trying to determine if this was a random act or if someone was trying to send a message to this officer. >> commissioner william everyone's releasing a statement reading the safety and well being of my officer's is always of highest importance to me and as a result, this is an incident we are taking seriously and investigating again just reiterate as of right now they have not determined that this officer was targeted. but anyone with information is encouraged to call police. live outside boston police headquarters, i'm nick emmons, 7 news night team. new at 11, a woman sexually assaulted on the green way early this morning. police say woman was near state street and atlantic avenue walking through the green way when a man approached her and assaulted her. boston police are asking for help finding the man they describe him as being in his 40s

and baseball hat at the time. >> today's winds whipping up flames halifax home. they the fire spiralled out of control forcing crews there to take cover the tim caputo live for news halifax tonight. tim. adam these crummy weather conditions certainly didn't help firefighters earlier today specifically the gusty winds this afternoon. that fire is now out. but investigators tonight trying to figure out how it began. bright intense flames shoot out roof home in the first firefighters on scene rushed into burning house to see if anyone was trapped inside. there wasn't anyone home when fire broke out but attempted rescue overwhelmed one firefighter. he was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. but the halifax fire chief says he's now fine. chief says home's location hundreds of feet off thompson street created other issues. remote location the driveway is couple hundred feet long first engine fire found heavy fire conditions on b side of the

martha's vineyard gusting close to 60 miles per hour. nantucket much the same. mashpee a gust to 52. sandwich a gust of 43 miles per hour. right now, there's still some wind out there. winds gusting 25, 35 miles per hour boston disgusting to 30. worcester 26. you notice out through south coast south shore on to islands, winds gusting 30 to 35 miles per hour. i think that's case up until about one or 2 in the morning then after that, these numbers will continue to subside. so is what i'm thinking for wind speeds. again there will be a bit of breeze out there refreshing from breeze from north and northeast you notice these numbers they are not going back up into the 20s, 30s and 40s during the day tomorrow. so it will be breezy. but not a damaging wind threat or anything like that out northeast as well anywhere between 15 and 20 miles per hour. how about the rain? any beneficial rain? no. we thought perhaps we could get beneficial rain up into southern new england from this tropical system. but there was a wall of dry air back through central and western

tropical rain bands for much of the afternoon. there was some beneficial rain out in cape islands. nantucket and par picking over an inch of rain forest of a couple of showers now marching through metro west. as well south shore and south coast. they will fade away maybe one or two tomorrow morning nantucket again over an inch rain. chatham about a half an inch. rain boston just a few sprinkles. overnuth tonight with showers, kind of dancing through eastern new england. then lingering through the most of us less than a quarter of an inch of rain. so there's the weather system there tomorrow. ironically closer to us tomorrow. but we'll do less damage. because it's much weaker. in fact, it will just fizzle out as we head toward tomorrow more than into day wednesday then we get back into summer pattern warm increasing more humid by middle and end of the week. for tonight that wind does settle down. few isolated showers
