are all on scene also. from what we are told here, the car went off the road, into the canal, and into the water. the canal service road is closed near bourne town hall. and some video we obtained, a man is being seen pulled from the water. we are told he has minor injuries. he was seen being loaded into an ambulance. as i said, we just arrived here on scene. we are working to get some more information. shot sure what caused this man to go into the canal and information right now. that is the latest here in bourne. >> christa: all right. thank you. also at noon, we are tracking what's left of hermine. take a look at this video. this is from nantucket. and some intense heavy winds there. bringing rain and rough surf as well. hermine is to the cape and the islands. luckily, the worst is over. >> sarah: we are still seeing the effects of this storm.

south and west of us. it continues to edge its way south and west. briefly away from new england before making that turn back. look what happens by the time it turns back. down to tropical depression strength as it works east, northeast. post-tropical now anyway. we are just talking in terms of where it ranks on that scale. a well-defined center of circulation south of us. pinwheeling in some scattered showers. and some patches of mist. nantucket right now, you are one of the locations hardest hit yesterday. with the gusty winds one of the best locations to be at today. a little bit of a breeze. but $75 degrees and sunny at this time. $68 in boston. 67 in new bedford. s if you take a look at the wind direction. if wind direction is on shored. yesterday we were gusting 50-60 miles per hour down through the cape and the islands. today, gusting about 25-30. we have cut those wind speeds

so we are not dealing with nearly as windy conditions as we had yesterday. is breeze will continue at times throughout the day. a lot of clouds around so far. the first half of the day. but i think we will get more patches of some sunshine trying to break on through the clouds this afternoon. for some towns. it's been scattered about in terms of any breaks. then we get into wednesday. tomorrow, breezy. some scattered showers. a little warmer. because i think we will get more breaks of sun and the shower activity not quite as widespread as what we saw earlier this morning. we will talk more on whene in the 7-day forecast. >> christa: all right, thank you. take a look at these pictures. a huge hole in the side of that boat. flipped right on to its side. some heavy surf there. earlier, we saw a video of some boats getting tossed around in the rough surf as well. >> kris: the wind and surf slamming those boats into the dock. things much different, though, this afternoon. it is kind of the calm after

boats were smashed up against docks. vehicles stranded on beaches. it was common quiet tuesday on horseneck beach. a far cry from yesterday. when wind gusts blew the rain sideways and waves were rolling out to sea in westport. >> a lot of home owners in the area just anxious to make sure that there is nothing that really is of any size that rolls through. >> kris: by high surf and heavy winds during the storm. the warnings were up. it didn't stop some people from showing up at the beach. high winds on the coast sent towels, hats, and bags flying. blowing sand covered the walkways. we were expecting building swells throughout the day. probably anywhere from four to six feet. maybe a little bit bigger occasionally. >> kris: a similar situation on the cape. heavy wind and constant rain on gnaws ept beach in orleans. the effect felt into the

they also had water issues. nos one was at home at the time. the home reportedly belonged to the late owner of the pawtucket red sox. also on 7: on this tuesday, a dangerous device found on the front lawn of a boston police officer. police say something similar to a molotov cocktail was tossed there on the grass. so now they are questioning whether officers are being specifically targeted. >> reporter: boston police concerned about an explosive find sunday morning, an officer found what's described as a molotov cocktail-like device in their yard. the bottle intact with what appears to be a burnt rag attached partially inside. the grass charred. no damage to the officer's home. bpd and boston fire are now investigating. trying to determine this this was a random act or if someone was trying to send a message to this officer. it comes weeks after another investigation looking into whether city officers were

... a power outage. >> reporter: they scuff their shoes along the bottom of the floor to get more squeaks. noise at that the teachers don't want to hear on the first day of school. right in yes, we have had some puddles out there as well as the dampness. thanks to a northeasterly wind bringing in some scattered showers. right now in boston, mostly cloudy. temperatures, 68. north, northeasterly wind at 16 miles an hour. that 6, we are pretty close to that throughout much of metrowest. although a l across the cape and beginning to see more breaks of sunshine working in across the islands and down through the cape. speaking of the wind, it is not as strong as what we saw yesterday. not even close for hyannis, nantucket, over to the vineyard. yeah, at times, we have seen some gusts, 20-30 miles an hour. this pales in comparison to the 58, 59 you had yesterday. including the vineyard. 59. nantucket at 58. these were the strongest wind gusts yesterday afternoon across new england.

sandwich. by time you work your way from boston to brookline, we were pushing about 40 miles an hour. a gusty day yesterday. not as windy today. we don't have as many breaks of sun as we had yesterday either. from boston north and west. it was nice to sneak in the sunshine around midday. although it did yield to some scattered showers. we continue to see some spotty showers working through the area. a lot of rain is light. it is not drought-denting out there. enough to keep it on the damper side. the center of circulation, well-defined. you can clearly spinning its wheels. it is backing in to the west. it will do so fading to the west, southwest over the next day or so before slowly working off to the north and the east. i don't expect the winds that we had yesterday to return to the forecast in week. wave heights, i showed you this yesterday. they are running close to 20 feet on some of the buoys south of us. they are now down to ten.

well. close to 5-10 feet. that is throwing the rip current risk back into the north shore. the national sea shore of cape cod. a moderate risk of rip currents here closer to the boston area. we continue to contend with. that the storm system lifts off to the north and east. we will eventually have the scattered shower action fade away and the heat return. for more on what's expected, over to danielle. >> danielle: thanks, chris. the rain has not been impressive. nantucket picked up over an inch. chatham and plymouth right around half an inch. hyannis and new bedford, just below. that the rain is what we really need. we haven't gotten much of it. as hermine lingers around, it doesn't look like we will be getting much more. most spots will see an additional quarter to half an inch through thursday morning. this isn't going to be a drought-buster for us. from january 1 until now, actually, this is the driest on record. we have picked up 20 inches of rain. we should have 29 inches by this time in the year.

showers. they are not going to amount to much. into thursday. that is when we have a cold front that will move through in the later part of the day. then we are drying out friday. >> chris: building the heat. looks like a warm weekend. temperatures back in the 80's. a slight risk of showers or maybe a thunderstorm on sunday morning. 70-75 this afternoon. again, some scattered showers around there. some bright spots in the overcast. the issue across the beaches today, of course, rip currents. as we do continue to see those not only today. i will likely see it again over the next couplele of days. that ocean slowly churns it way down. we will get less shower activity and more in the way of breaks in the overcast for tomorrow afternoon. as we get into the second half of the week, really turning on the heat toward the end of the week itself. friday, 90 degrees. le 8's over the weekend.

massachusetts emergency management agency is warning everyone to watch out for the rip currents until at least tomorrow. kris anderson, 7 news. >> christa: all right, kris. thank you. be sure to stay with 7 news as we continue to track this storm. get up to the minute forecasts any time with. our interactive radar on-line and our 7 news app as well. >> christa: a driver pulled from the water afterhe loses control and ends up in the cape cod canal. john cuoco has been there. what happened here? >> reporter: well, christa, we spoke with the fire department here on scene. we have some brand new information. so just before 10:30 this morning, a driver was coming down perry avenue. and as perry avenue sort of turns, there is an area called three-mile look. we are told he went into this area of three-mile look. that is where he went through and then up and over an embankment. the fire department says he fell 35-40 feet down into the canal below.

he clipped power lines on the way down. now, amazingly, this driver was actually able to get himself out of his car. first responders found him on the rocks near the water. now, they did take him... he was seen on a stretcher in a neck brace. they did take him to the hospital. we are told he was speaking. he was a man in his 50's. we are told he is extremely lucky and people in the area are also lucky. because from what we are told, this is an extremely popular area. now, first responders, the next thing they have to do is get that car out of the water. there were divers on scene here. they are going to go in the water and see where this car is. how it is positioned. they are going to hook it up and they are going to try to use a tow truck to get it out of the water. >> sarah: the patriots minus tom brady, of course, gearing up for sunday night's game right here on 7 news. today bill belichick answering

the former stanford university swimmer was released from a california jail friday after sexually assaulting an unconscious woman at a fraternity party back in january of 2015. >> christa: crews dyeing underwater to try to recover an historic paddle boat after it sank in california. officials say that a mechanical problem caused that boat to capsize sunday. and officials say the boat also contains gallons of diesel fuel which is now leaking. two people, though, jumped out and they made it to shore safely. >> divers with the coast guard and global diving and salvage team spending labor day underwater, trying to come up with a plan to hoist up the spirit of smen co. this video is from sunday.

sheriff's office saw the historic paddle boat had capsized. >> immediately, they put booms around the area to keep the sheen inside the area around the vessel. >> reporter: the 87-year-old-foot boat contains 600 gallons of diesel fuel which began leaking sunday morning. >> we are asking people to please stay clear of the vessel their diving operations. >> christa: an official with the department says the boat had been anchored near an island for weeks and had no current documentation. and the coast guard and local law enforcements are trying to come up with a plan to salvage that historic paddle boat and the surrounding environment. >> sarah: more news today. congress returning from its 7-week recess. lawmakers have a long to-do list when they return. items on the agenda include funning for the government.

>> chris: we take a look at a couple of showers still lingering down across humarock. overall, the a mostly cloudy sky. we have seen more sunshine across nantucket. that is well-deserved after yesterday. with winds gusting to 58 miles per hour. and some soaking rain bands have backed on in. hermine south of us. this wobld its way to the north and to the west. now fading back to the southwest. we are not going to shake it off any time soon completely. you see this area of low pressure by thursday, we are talking about winds sustained. 30-5 miles an hour across the center. we are not going to see a return of the strong gusty winds. even if that center of low pressure gets close to the cape and the islands on wednesday high in, thursday morning. the wind is steady out of the northeast. 10-15 miles an hour.

that is pretty much it. the storm system is backing up to the west. it's been that northwest side that's been having the stronger winds. we are kind of getting in closer to some of the northeastern side of it. you can see the buoy reports. not all that impressive. 18-25 miles per hour on peak gusts. this is where we stand occasionally. a bit of a breeze for the rest of us. seas still turned up. of course, it takes a little while for the waters to calm down. although the high as they were yesterday. and we will continue to see them subside. high surf advisory in place today. likely seeing a moderate risk of rip currents over the next couple of days. here we go. we end the week and head in toward the weekend. finally, seeing this thing kick out to sea. the heat returns as early as thursday afternoon. at least away from the coastline, mid-le 80's, the likelihood here on thursday. a lot of us pushing close to 90. how much rain did we get?

saw the brunt of this storm: and they only got just over an inch of rain. chatham and plymouth right around half an inch. and hyannis, new bedford, four-tenths of an inch. this didn't bring us much rain. really, we just saw those damaging winds. those strong wind gusts and the dangerous surf. over the next couple of days, hermine hangs out off the coast. they will probably bring us a quarter to half an inch of rain when all the said and done. we have picked up around 20 inches of rain. and on average, by this time in the year, we should have 29 inches. the drought conditions continue. and these rain chances over the next couple of days, as i was talking about, not going to amount to much. and then heading into friday, we are drying out. for the rest of the forecast, back to you. >> chris: rain chance going down. we will watch the temperatures

you will get your dry hours in here. milder overnight tonight. instead of the 50's and low 60's, a lot of towns in the mid-60's. mostly cloudy skies tomorrow. a bit breezy. scattered showers in the forecast. although we will get a few bright spots, too. that allows temperatures to jump up a few more degrees. 75-80. ragweed. pollen counts have been bothering you. the rainfall knocks some of that out of the forecast. at least for now. that count will likely go if we get any rain over the weekend, a couple of lingering showers and maybe a thunderstorm on sunday morning. otherwise, expecting more dry times than anything else. that front that comes through on sunday, behind it, refreshing air. a lot of low humidity to start next week. >> christa: tennis star serena
