office all still investigating the circumstances surrounding what happened here along those train tracks. now, this is in the area under the mass. pike. it is between buick street which is right off of commonwealth avenue here and storrow drive. police got the call just after midnight, we are told. a short time later, they located the body of this 17-year-old male. investigators say the student appeared to be crossing the tracks when he was hit by an outbound m.b.t.a. commuter train with 38 passengers now, no foul play is suspected at this hour. and the student's name is being withheld until his family has been notified. as you can imagine, students who just started school are in shock this afternoon. >> it is numbing. there is a lot of students at b.u. you kind of hear about something once a year. but it's numbing. you know, it's very sad. >> very sad.

on the b.u. campus that this student was a freshman here on campus. because his name is not being released until family members have been notified, the dean here at b.u. is urging students to call their families at this hour and let them know that they are okay. and the investigation into what happened is ongoing right now. we are live in boston this afternoon, steve cooper, 7 news. >> sarah: new at noon, two people are hurt after a crash on 495 north. you can see the veh i the highway. it happened near exit 23 in marlborough. police had to close two lanes. >> christa: 7 news now turning to your forecast. it has been gray out there. maybe some peeks of sun, though. we take a live look at the zakim bunker hill bridge. there have been some scattered showers. really humid. it is going to be muggy for a while. although chris was telling us about a little bit of a warm-up. as we head later in the week.

90 by friday. it has been a process, getting some breaks of sun. finally seeing it. in the lower 8's, plymouth to new bedford. the dew points have jumped back up into the mid-6's to near 70. that is the humidity. that is the mugginess you feel outside. the radar, after tracking quite a few morning showers, especially near boston north and west has gone mostly quiet. there have been a couple of spot sprinkles up in the merrimack valley, southern new hampshire as well as near the south coast of new england. it is nice and dry in boston right now. is a little bit of spoke of moisture and energy coming on in to trigger off an isolated shower this afternoon. but the main center of circulation which is the remnant low from hermine continues stay well to the south of us. that is just it. you know, a spot shower or two. temperatures, upper 70's and lower 8's this afternoon. maybe a few mid-8's down through southeastern massachusetts. we have had most of the sunshine. mid-80's likely tomorrow. as we get into tomorrow and turn the corner and go toward the end of the week, we are

that. since no one had volunteered, he assigned a hundred officers instead. officers were about to hit the streets before this injunction. >> we support the cameras. >> it is lousy to see this in-fighting. i think it takes away from the job they do. it gives the perception that we have something to hide. we have nothing to hichld i think most officers will see the once it gets going. >> reporter: evans says there has been signs at police stations telling officers not to wear them. a judge is expected to make the decision on friday by noon. if he does, well, officers will suit up with them first thing monday morning. >> sarah: the principal of weston high school remaining students to be careful what they post on social media. according to the superintendent, someone

some sophomore boys may have sent inappropriate pictures of themselves to that account. no victims have come forward, officers say. police met with sophomores yesterday to talk about the implications of sharing explicit photos. >> christa: now triggering trouble: police say a lawrence firefighter was drunk when he apparently shot himself in the leg. now he is facing some charges. let's head out live to lawrence. >> reporter: christa, that firefighter was arraigned at the hospital yesterday. today paperwork. it paints a clear picture of what police say happened. with that firefighter and his dog. just after midnight tuesday, lawrence police responded to a domestic incident at a house on south boylston street. a man was reportedly drunk and trying to get into his safe stocked with guns. the man inside is a 39-year-old lawrence firefighter. according to court paperwork, police heard one obvious gunshot from inside the house. officers saw a large dog come

say someone on scene yelled that the firefighter was sibbing the dog on them. the firefighter was lying face-down. he was taken to lawrence general hospital. he was treated and also arraigned. we are told he did have a license to carry. that has since been revoked. meantime, his dog was treated by an emergency vet. and is expected to be okay. that firefighter is being held without bail fbs. he will have a dangerousness hearing on friday. we are live from lawrence, john cuoco, 7 news. >> sarah: u.s. marshals arrested anymore bridgeport, connecticut last month.

carrying groceries near her home. police arrest a man in amherst after they say he posed as an uber driver. and indecent assaulted a umass student. the student was offer campus when an 18-year-old approached her and offered to drive her to campus saturday morning. that is when he allegedly assaulted her. she was able to escape. >> sarah: now the race for the white house. the first of its kind commander i airing live tonight on nbc. hillary clinton and donald trump will be answering questions about national security, the military, and veterans. spacing their first... facing their first fierce battle, donald trump and hillary clinton will portray themselves as credible commander in chief. clinton blasting her opponent as unfit to lead, tarlg targeting his controversial comments. >> john mccain, a war hero: he is not a war hero. he is a war hero because he

we have seen some breaks recently of sunshine in boston. wind is due east here. that is also helping key keeping things on the cool side. hey, with the sun, we are at 81 degrees. the winds out of the east, southeast. down across the cape. well into the 70's. visibility, still somewhat limited out into the worcester hills. as we do have some patchy fog. at this time. it is radar, mostly quiet. it was active morning. just in time for the rush hour commute. it will slow you down, right right now, though, we a in fact, in boston, it is dry throughout much of metrowest. it is dry, a couplele of sprinkles up into the merrimack valley, southern new hampshire. i can't rule out a spot shower once in a while triggered offer here by the instability. and a little bit of humidity pulling in from what was hermine. the national hurricane center no longer issuing an advisory on. this it has weakened substantially. you still have that swirl south and east of us. it is not a huge wind-maker for us. we are dealing with winds at

hour. by the time this thing is all said and done and meanders out to sea. we are not going to see much more wind and rain out of it. isolated shower, a possibility. a front crosses on through thursday night. it is possible we get another passing shower or thunderstorm overnight on thursday. very early on friday. when i say early on friday, we are talking 3:00, 4:00 in the morning. then it is over and done with. as winds turn more out of the northwest, the humidity comes down a bit on friday aften. but the heat goes up. behind the front, we are pushing 90 degrees. for more on the forecast, over to danielle. >> danielle: thanks. the humidity definitely back today. those dew points in the upper 60's today. and then tomorrow, it will still feel muggy. dew points even climbing close to 70 degrees for tomorrow. they will start to drop a little bit as we head into friday and saturday. but it is going to be humid for today and tomorrow. and then friday and saturday, we finally get back closer to that comfortable category. good news there.

>> sarah: a new policy at a school in holyoke has everybody talking. teachers at kelly elementary won't give out homework this year. the prince palg saying she wants kids to focus on spending time with family and getting a good night's sleep. >> christa: can you imagine? no fights at night. chef doesn't want kids to be tired. there is a camp. here is nicole oliverio to explain. >> reporter: new assignment for students at the kelly

the school has implemented a homework-free policy. >> if you look at the research, there is no direct correlation that homework improves student performance. >> reporter: the school district was classified as underperforming. part of the turnaround plan was to extend the school day by nearly two hours and to focus on engagement in the classroom and high-quality instruction. so administrators wanted to try a year without work after school. >> we want them to go all the brain power that they needed during the school day. >> reporter: the school has more than 500 students in grades k-8. and parents seem to support this no-homework policy. >> they are doing more work in school. >> i think it is cool. now they are able to go to the ymca, have more interaction over there. parents, we have a lot of things we have to do after school. sports and things like that. laundry. and stuff like that. it kind of makes more time for

it happened under the mass. pike. not far from b.u. >> christa: today investigators are trying to figure out exactly how this happened. let's head out to brighton. steve cooper with more. >> reporter: at commonwealth avenue, a lot of kids walking around in disbelief. we just learned from b.u. officials that that student that was struck and killed by a commuter train overnight was, in fact, a freshman here at b.u. let's take you to the scene. where transit police overnight got that call. just after midnight. and the tracks near buick street and storrow drive. right under the mass. pike. police got the call. telling esaround mud night, and a short time later, they located the body of a 17-year-old male. now, investigators say the student appeared to be crossing the tracks when he was hit by a commuter train. no foul play is expected. investigators have been on the scene all day long. the student's name, not being relesioned yet. but students here on campus

nancy chen, 77 news. >> christa: boston police officials and the union back in court today. they are continuing a hearing on body cameras. the union filing an injunction to delay the body camera program. after police commissioner william evans ordered a hundred officers to wear them. the commissioner making that decision after no officers volunteered to do so. >> the request for injunction is about our bar gaining rights. we supported body cameras. >> infighting. i think it takes away from the job they do. and it gives the perception that we have something to hide. we have nothing to hichld i think most officers will see the benefits of this program once it gets going. >> christa: the judge expects to make a ruling by friday. if he rules in favor of the cameras, officers could be equipped with them by monday morning. >> sarah: now a snap-chat warning at weston high. someone with a fake account has been soliciting explicit photos. now the school and police are

victoria warren has the latest. >> reporter: internet concerns for parents and students at weston high school. >> i think once something goes out there, you can't get it back. i think we are always reminding them. you know, not to put anything out there you don't want everyone to see. report t superintendent was told someone created a fake snap-chat account and some sophomore boys may have sent an inappropriate picture of themselves. >> we don't know whether or not it is from a student. it could be from somebo and that is the danger in all of. this you don't know who is on the other end. who creates these fake accounts. >> i'm very shocked. i guess. no one knows really who it is yet. report tht girl is a sophomore. the school asked police to investigate, but officers say they are limited, because so far no, victims have come forward. and theynd even seen any of

>> christa: a man from swansea surrendered peacefully after a 7-hour standoff at a hotel in seekonk. the 1-year-old now facing several charges including, kidnapping, assault with a dangerous weapon and failure to register as a sex offender. according to investigators, the suspect had a knife and kept a woman inside that motel room for several hours. the woman was not physically hurt. >> sarah: people in portland, maine covering up a controversial mural of the governor wearing kkk attire. with mickey mouse ears and a message saying "no hate." a city spokes penn said the mural should stay to promote freedom of speech. lepage has been the center of several scandals surrounding race. a driver slams into a building in connecticut. and then makes an incredible escape. police say the driver lost control and went airborne. the point of impact, eight feet off the ground. investigators say the suspect

police believe they know who the driver is and are working on getting a warrant for his arrest. >> christa: there is more news today: a minnesota family finally has answers in a cold case dating back to 1989. a man has now come forward confessing to sexually assaulting and murdering a little boy, jacob wetterling. danny heinrich confessed to the crime against jacob who was just 11 years old. he was originally a person of interest in the case. but so recently police arrested the 53-year-old on child pornography charges. on tuesday, heinrich told a federal judge in detail, about how he kidnapped and abused jacob during an emotional day in the courtroom. >> after almost 27 years, danny heinrich was willing to talk. and we had to grab the moment. >> jacob, i'm so sorry. it's incredibly painful to

still lingering with the low clouds and patches of fog, though. close to 495. points north and west at times. radar, rather quiet. not completely quiet. there have been a few spots, sprinkles, and showers: the seacoast of new hampshire. close to the merrimack valley. certainly, had more showers around for the morning commute. that slowed things down. especially north and west of boston this morning. didn't amount to a tremendous amount of water. sometimes picking up a quarter of an inch to a third of an inch of rain. there are a few showers southeast of connecticut. a couple of spokes of moisture to rotate around what was hermine. enough instability for a spot shower or. two otherwise, a mix of clouds and sun. even north and west of boston, some breaks in the overcast. solid overcast overnight tonight and tomorrow morning. a couple of spot showers around then. by the afternoon, we are going to start to warm things up again.

terms of wave heights today compared to the last couple of days. still some rough surf south of new england. pushing in toward the coastline. high surf advisory in effect down across the cape and the islands. for those seas. three to five feet. with the high risk of rip currents there as well. heat and humidity building this week. for more on that, over to danielle. >> danielle: kra. the humidity definitely back today. dew points in the upper 60's and tomorrow, they will get closer to 70 degrees. you will be feeling the muggies for the next couple of days here. as we head into the weekend, the dew points little bit. we are not quite going to make it into that comfortable category. tomorrow, probably going to be the worst day. humid. by friday, temperatures going to climb back to the 90's. so if we do get there in boston, that would be our 21st90-degree day of the year. on average, we are only meant to see about 14. we have already seen 20. we are already above that. we did start off september with some blue squares. below-average days.
