>> christa: police arrest a man in east boston after he used this nine-inch knife in order to threaten parents and students outside of the thanks for watching us here on 7 news at noon. i'm christa delcamp. >> kris: i'm kris anderson. it happened outside otis elementary school. it left the witness there is shaken up. nicole oliverio has details on the story you saw first on 7. >> reporter: last thursday, on the first day of school, police say a drunk man was threatening parents and students outside of the east boston school with this knife. parents we spoke with didn't know what happened and were

>> well, that is really scary. i mean, the number one priority, for sure, is to make sure the kids are safe. that is really crazy to hear. >> reporter: the man threat and mother as she was walking her four-year-old son to the front doors. the mom told officers she grabbed her child and crossed the street to avoid the man. when police arrived, they found the 36-year-old suspect still holding the nine-inch kitchen knife. his intentions unclear. but investigators say the man was heavily intoxicated. officers arebsed the suspect. >> that is amazing. yeah. it is good that... you know, because this is a bunch of crazy stuff that happens around here all the time. it is not the best area. you know, it is good to know that the police got ahold of him. report tt school's principal didn't want to talk on camera. administrators say they appreciate how officers handled the situation, saying "they promptly apprehended the suspect and made every effort to disarm the man in such a way so as not to alarm or

that suspect now facing a number of charges, including four for assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. in east boston, nicole oliverio, 7 news. >> kris: new details today in a murder in methuen. we are learning more about the criminal history of a person of interest in this case. as police search for a killer. that person of interest is the victim fess east ex-boyfriend. vicker to qa warren is live in methuen with the very latest here. vicky? >> reporter: yeah. we have leard to a protection order, but there was no restraining order that would keep him away from his ex-girlfriend. in fact, we have learned that the ex-girlfriend went to a judge this year. fvbs asking the judge to allow her ex-boyfriend to spend time with her and their child as a family. candles honoring a 29-year-old wan darosa, the victim of a history of violence. all leading up to her tragic

>> it breaks my heart. she was so giving. forgiving, kind. you know, it was tough. >> reporter: sources say rosa was strangled to death, telling 7 news neighbors heard chilling words. her four-year-old son calling out "stop, daddy. stop, daddy." police now searching for the boy's father, emilio de la rosa, saying the 32-year-old is a person of interest. >> yeah. the boy was in the premises and at some point in time, mr. de la rosa took him rosa's house. >> reporter: the couple had violent past. de la rosa pleading guilty. in court paperwork, she said "he slammed me towards the wall and said he would kill me if i got the police involved." de la rosa got out of jail this year. and court papers show his ex-girlfriend had a judge change an order to allow him to once again, see their son. >> she told me, you know, they were kind of talking things

there is nothing she could have done to deserve it. you know, none whatsoever. should have saved in jail the first time. >> reporter: methuen police continue their search today for this ex-boyfriend, calling him a person of interest. the child, we are told, is safe, was unharmed and remains with family members. live in methuen, victoria warren, 7 news. >> christa: now a developing story out of danvers. a 70-year-old woman was struck and killed by a car. sky 7 over the scenea let's go to jennifer eagan in danvers with more on what happened here. jen? >> reporter: chris that, accident happened around 7:00 this morning. just at the time that neighbors say the son does tend to blind drivers coming down road. police are considering that as a possible cause of this accident. the victim was crossing the road to meet a friend. police shut down hobart street in danvers as they investigated a serious accident. a woman in her 70's hit by a

rita keenan says the victim was her friend who was coming to meet her for a morning walk. >> i thought she had tripped. i open the door and i ran to see her. she had traumatic trauma. i mean, i'm a retired nurse. so just looking at her, i knew you know... >> reporter: the driver stopped at the scene. neighbors say he was visibly upset. >> he was very distraught. he was sitting on the grass, and just waiting to see what his t police. it was very unfortunate. >> i didn't see her because the sun is bad here in the morning. >> reporter: the accident happened around 7:00 this morning. local and state police kept the road closed while they collected evidence. by late morning, the driver's honda was towed away and the scene cleared. leaving rita keenan in shock over what happened to her friend. >> to see her this morning, walk... you know, to the edge of the driveway, and shot

79 now in bedford. very close to the low 80's. we will eclipse that and get into about 83, 84 by midafternoon. looking at all of the sunshine across new england, you have to extend back into the midwest before you can find a front that will provide some scattered showers and storms. that will happen tomorrow. until then, enjoy today. temperatures are 82-84 across the region. tomorrow afternoon, especially after 3:00, 4:00 p.m., we will track the scattered storms in re another warm day. 86, 88 degrees. another cool front with fall-like air comes in to end the week. that forecast ahead. >> kris: a woman suffered minor injuries when a tree fell on her car while she was driving. take a look at this video. it happened in dover at farm and bridge streets this morning. the woman was taken to the hospital. crews have cleared the tree off of the road since. >> christa: police searching for three suspects who apparently threw rocks through a window at the islamic society of greater nashua

a total of three rocks were thrown at the window. one went through, almost hit somebody who was inside. the president of the society says they believe they were targeted because it was the 15th anniversary of 9-11. >> we pray here, sometimes five times a day. if it happens, people will be afraid to come here at night. >> christa: police are collecting surveillance video from businesses in the area to try to track down the vandals. white house is getting closer. this is the weekly nbc news survey monkey poll. take a look. donald trump now only four points behind hillary clinton. she has 48%. trump with 44%. earlier this summer, hillary clinton held a ten-point lead over her republican rival. meanwhile, hillary clinton continues to stay at home and rest after she announced a diagnosis of pneumonia over the weekend. and she is opening up about this health scare that has raised some questions.

maybe 87 or 88 in a few towns. humidity sneaks back up. scattered storms. not for long. other side of the front will cool us back down on thursday. the pick of the weekend will be on saturday, sunday. some showers and storms scattered about. >> kris: all right. a story about ice cream that will warm your heart. this is out of chicago. an 89-year-old man, you see him here, sells popsicles out of that push-cart every summer. he is not going to have to do that any longer. when a photo of this man went viral, the neighbors pitched in and helped him >> christa: they were able to raise more than $200 thouf for this man in two days. 89-year-old struggling to push his cart through chicago. he was later found with his cart on 26th street in the windy city, selling his ice cream and popsicles. it is a job he has been doing for 20 years. but only in the summer. and on nice winter days. he leaves every morning, pushing the 50-pound cart for as long as he can.

>> kris: now, oppong will be on the field for friday's game. he plans to, once again, kneel during the anthem. >> christa: more news now. fast man breaking down during his arraignment. he is facing murder charges for allegedly stabbing a woman to death. in danville, new hampshire. here you see him. richard moore. wiping away tears during his arraignment monday. police arrested him late friday night. they charged him with second-degree murder. police say moore killed the woman over the labor day weekend. and they allowed who is a registered sex offender to rent a room in her home in order to help pay the mortgage. >> kris: >> kris: a saugus mother will be spending four years behind bars after pleading guilty to raping two teenagers. she admitted to having sex with the two boys in 2014 and sharing nude photos with them. a judge sentenced the 40-year-old to three years probation. boston police are trying to solve a 40-year-old murder mystery that involves a teenage girl.

the cool overnights show their teeth here as temperatures dip down into the 40's. we had that the last couple of mornings in the suburbs. look at the afternoon. we are already back in the upper 70's to near 80 degrees. we will head to 82-84 across the area this afternoon. low humidity air mass. when off lot of sunshine and the southwesterly wind. you warm it up quickly during the day. we have certainly seen that throughout the afternoon. buffalo, new york, dew point, 58. 62 in d.c. not oppressive stuff. there is some more humidity off to the south of us. that will work on in. as we go through wednesday. not today, though. sunshine, low humidity. we will continue the theme of where we are early this afternoon. cold front west of us. that will move through with some scattered showers tomorrow. a couple of showers and storms that we do get will likely contain some gusty winds.

with the damaging wind gusts. we will keep an eye on that. any time after 3:00, 4:00 p.m., it is fair game, starting initially, north and west of boston, through southern new hampshire and western massachusetts. then progressing into the boston met role area. then off to the south. through 7:00 or 8:00 in the evening. doesn't mean it is going to rain for four hours. it is just that that is the timing of it. between 3:00, 4:00 p.m. for the start. then ending around 8:00 p.m. to see this line of storms go from northwest to southeast ro sun-filled skies. warm afternoon. temperatures in the lower 80's. great night at fenway. baseball weather, perfect. in september here. at times. we have that... we have temperatures holding into the low 70's initially. then faying back into the upper 6's in boston. in fact, late overnight, i think we will be about 65 in boston. 58 in the cooler suburbs. not quite as cool overnight tonight. as the last couple of overnights.
