most brownstones in the area. let's get out to john cuoco live on the scene with more for us. john? >> reporter: we've been told there is extensive damage to a few brownstones here. one where the actual fire is and two others that have smoke and water damage. crews are still onscene. their ladders are pointing up to the roof. that is where most of the damage is concentrate and that's where firefighters are trying to put out hotspots. the boston f rutland street. the fire has you can see has since been knocked down. no injuries have been reported yet but we're told multiple families and multiple units will likely be displaced. the boston fire department about find propane tanks. one valve had been broken. they're investigating to see if that caused the fire.

explosion. the latest here from the south end, we're total about $500,000 worth of damage to these brownstones. john cuoco 7 news. >> kim: to a developing story on the south shore. flames consuming a home in cohasset. fire crews on the scene for much of the afternoon trying to get fund control. it was actually a neighbor who first spotted the flames and called for help. >> adam: no one was inside. let's get to kimberly bookman live with more kimberly. >> reporter: the fire chief says the home owner had lived in the house since he was a young child. he is dealing not only with the loss of the building but also the fact that his dog is missing. >> when i saw the magnitude of the smoke coming out, obviously i called 911 and said that is a big one. >> reporter: p.j.murphy was getting his mail when he noticed the home across the street was on fire. >> it originated out of the kitchen. deck was on fire. >> reporter: no one was

the flames with his phone. he was concerned because it's so dry and the flames were getting out of control. >> i want to make sure that it wasn't going to spread. >> reporter: people reported seeing smoke a mile away. crews arrive and they say they immediately needed backup. at least five towns arrived to help. >> the biggest challenge was the location. it's far enough away from the fire station and the fire had a big head start on us. >> reporter: less than an hour later the roof collapsed an the entire home damage. the family learned their pet dog was missing. >> they're distraught. i've spoken to both the home other than and his mother. they're in a little bit of disbelief at this point. >> reporter: at this hour the fire is out. crews just dealing with hotspots. it's under investigation what cased all of this. kimberly bookman, 7 news. >> kim: a tractor trailer

north carolina law that some say leads to discrimination again the lgbt community. they're pulling out of events. in a state where the sport is part of its culture and pride north carolina's house bill 2 continues to cause controversy. the ncaa is moving seven of its championship events out of the state over the law some say is discriminatory against the lgbt community. >> embarrassing for our state that this is happened and our state is going through. >> reporter: thes bill to use bathrooms corresponding to the gender on their birth certificates in government buildings been it removes state anti-crimination protections for the lgbt community and the blocks local governments from expanding the locations. duke is one of several division one schools taking a huge hit. >> i wish that the law had not been passed. i wish it would be repealed.

normal high is 74 so numbers with way above normal. here we go. noon tomorrow nothing around the metro then as we advance your timeline here comes the cold front kicking off a scattering of showers and storms and some of the storms may have a little bit of fiestiness in terms of the wind. there may be gusty winds with this. we'll watch and we talked about this last half hour, but because of the drought, the soil is dry so the root systems are stress and compromised so take wind values that you normally associate with damage to knock over some trees so not to be an alarmist. i don't think it will be a repeat of sunday but there may be one or two cases where we're talking a a little bit of tree damage. by 8:00 pm everything will settle down as the front blows offshore which is good because we have the boston in gillette. i do think there will be a few isolated storms then as we continue into the evening the air dries out and it's
