norfolk police say it happened at 8:30 this morning. eyewitnesses tell us the child was crying when emergency responders arrived. they say this is a school bus stop and the child was with his brother. witnesses described hearing screams. >> i heard the screaming and the yelling. the children and the parents that were out there waiting with their children. and obviously, i went out because i didn't know what happened. i didn't hear a crash or anything. like. that i went out there. there w children waiting for the school bus and a lot of parents waiting with the kids. and this little boy was, you know, lying on the side of the road. not really moving at the moment. a couple of minutes later, he did start to moan a little bit. then he started to cry. >> reporter: and that child was med-flighted to the hospital. we are still waiting for an update on injuries. one thing a few neighbors have told us around here is that this street, this intersection

speeding drivers. that is the latest live in norfolk, john cuoco, 7 news. >> sarah: also breaking right now, sky 7 over the scene. all lanes of route nine eastbound in newton are closed. major route here. this is because of a crash into a utility pole. that is a look at the scene right there. wow. two people were taken to the hospital. non-life-threatening injuries. massachusetts state police are on the scene. this is at dudley road, if you know the area. you can see that the actually broken and hanging. so that stretch of roadway will stay closed until the power company can secure the pole and of course, clear the wires. that is a hazard as well. danielle gersh has the latest. >> danielle: thanks, christa. as you can see, no cars getting by there. as you mentioned, the road is closed on route nine eastbound. let's go to the maps. exactly where this happened in newton. the road is closed between parker street and dudley road. traffic is backed up to chestnut street because of

eastbound because of this accident, over half an hour. major delays because of. this back to you guys. >> sarah: also on 7: a well-known police chief in gloucester off the job. chief leonard campanello was recently honored at the white house for his effort to fight the opioid crisis. but now he is under investigation. victoria warren live in gloucester with more. >> reporter: sarah, this afternoon there are a lot o is going on. but they are not releasing any details. not giving specifics about what this internal investigation is about. or how long they expect it to take. nationally recognized gloucester police chief leonard campanello suddenly off the job. placed on paid administrative leave by city officials. the mayor breaking the news to the chief on tuesday. but publicly, only saying there is an internal investigation.

the fight against opioid addiction. he launched the police department's angel program and the acclaimed police-assisted addiction recovery initiative that helps addicts get treatment without fear of arrest. his efforts recognized by the white house this year. in a statement, chief's attorney didn't provide details of the internal investigation except to say it is our understanding that it has nothing to do with his duties as chief of police. we intend to cooperate fully th now, at the chief's home, there was no answer. but there was a note posted saying he is not there. and they have no comment. his attorney, though, did go on to say that he expects to be back on the job quickly. and he is looking forward to it. live in gloucester, victoria warren, 7 news. >> christa: tropical storm

st. augustine, florida. in fact, six million people are under a flash flood watch right now. officials say the storm is expected to dump three to six inches of rain on florida. let's go to chris lambert who has been monitoring this system. >> chris: big rain-maker for savannah, georgia up to charleston, south carolina here. that is where the bulk of the rain is going to fall. the center of circulation now north of jacksonville. close to sa vanna. it continues to pinwheel in. plenty of moisture. we are not talking about high wind speeds here powerful tropical systems. we do have gusty winds. sustained at 40 miles an hour. localized higher gusts. you notice these little lines and l's stacked on top of each other. this is going move very slowly over the next few days. i wish we could get some of the tropical moisture into new england to give us some rain. it is not going to happen. a lot of the moisture gets kicked out to sea early next week. in the meantime, we are baking in the sun here. 85 in boston. 85 in norwood.

intentional. phoenix police said the driver plowed right through the group of officers before hitting a patrol car. then the front of a sewer. the three officers, thankfully, are expected to be okay. the suspect was arrested and charged with three counts of attempted first-degree murder. he has been booked on suspicion of aggravated assault also. the car came close to hitting two clerks inside the gas station. police believe the driver targeted the officers and may have been impaired. >> this is a act on all police officers and it's simply unacceptable. our phoenix police officers were targeted. >> sarah: one of the injured officers was working his first shift on the job. he has a head injury, but like the others, is expected to be okay. >> christa: police raid a home in rhode island in search of a killer. officials are on the hunt now for a man police believe killed an officer from north carolina. a rhode island state police tactical team raided this home

might have been inside an apartment in the home. officers used tear gas and gave warnings before entering the home. but they didn't find anybody inside. >> we treat every case the same. when a police officer is slain, it definitely heightens up the threat level. obviously, he has taken one police officer down. >> christa: he was shot in the chest looking for the suspect who apparently had mised a >> sarah: 7 news now turning to worcester: a man there preparing to face a judge. he is accused of pulling a machete on another driver during a road rage attack. police say it happened near burncoat high school. they believe the suspect's 13-year-old daughter and 17-year-old son were in the car at the time of the incident. >> christa: a state trooper injured in the crash. his cruiser collided with an s.u.v. on 190.

temperatures right now running into the mid-8's. so after that taste of fall over the last couple of mornings, quite the difference here. summer comes surging back. in the humidity up a bit as well. with the dew points now running into the low to mid-60's from boston on south. notice the slightly drier air in bedford and worcester. at times, we will have some dry air trying to mix on down. the dew points kind of holding in the upper 50's to low not oppressive. but enough humidity to make it feel like summer once again outside. we are not tracking any rain at this hour. across southern new england. in fact, a lot of showers and storms having trouble getting going. as we still have some dry levels of the atmosphere in place. i don't expect a whole lot over the next couple of hours. as this cold front does push in, mid to late afternoon, we will likely see some scattered showers and storms start to fire on up.

north and west of 495 by 3:00 p.m., a couple of storms may fire on up. again, scattered about. not all towns will see it. the best chance in boston down to providence. maybe between 5:00 and 7:00. that will slide off to the south and east after. that cape cod could have a lingering gusty shower or thunderstorms. then it is over and done with. temperatures this afternoon running well into the 80's. the risk of severe weather today is marginal. severe limits with strong wind gusts. again, more of the exception rather than the rule. i think 30% or 40% of us picking up on a shower or thunderstorm. anything in terms of severe weather is rather limited. behind this, high pressure builds on. in huge change-up for tomorrow. highs closer to 70 degrees. a good 15-20 degrees cooler on

in the control room, nancy chen, 7 news. >> christa: all right, nancy. thank you. new details out of syria this afternoon. the u.s. and russia helping to broker a cease-fire there. it appears to be holding. here is reporter matt bradley with the latest. >> reporter: the syrian observatory for human rights reported there hasn't been any civilian casualtities since the guns fell mostly silent on monday night. a special envoy for syria sai that is something of a surprise considering the pessimism that surrounded this deal. at sunset tonight, the two sides will reevaluate their progress. if everything goes as planned, then russia and america will extend the cease-fire for another 48 hours. but there is one crucial element that's still missing. the syrian government has been blocking aid convoys from reaching rebel-held eastern

200,000 civilians. the u.n. envoy said that convoys car rig much-needed supplies have mostly not crossed the border into syria. he said that only two convoys have gone so far. and there is still some 20 that are idling on the syrian border, waiting to go through customs. now, he said that regarding humanitarian assistance, there is still some homework to be done. but still, optimism among diplomats appears to have spiked. if the truce holds, some 20 leaders at the u.n. in new york next week to hash out a broader resolution to this five-year-long civil war that has killed nearly half a million people. syrians are certainly hoping that this cautious optimism continues. matt bradley, nbc news, london. >> christa: more news internationally today. russian hackers have released what they claim are medical records of several u.s. olympians. the world's anti-doping agency

temperatures there in the 70's. with that wind gusting. 20-30 miles an hour. a little bit cooler for the cape and the islands. the rest of us, mid to upper 80's this afternoon. dew points, drop off substantially. back into southern canada. that is the low humidity that will be with us on thursday into friday. to get to that low humidity and the cool temperatures, a cold front has to come on through, of course. we have sunshine out there now. more clouds into the mix this afternoon. and we are going to watch a broken line of some scattered showers and storms form along the cold frontnd little bit behind that front as it slides into southern new england. our best opportunity to pick up on some of these scattered showers and storms, between 3:00 and 7:00 p.m. initially, the first batch will form across southern new hampshire. then across western massachusetts. perhaps as early as 3:00 in the afternoon. 4:00, 5:00, 6:00, getting closer to the boston area. then anything after 6:00 or 7:00 is south of boston and we could have a lingering gusty shower or thunderstorm down across the cape until 8:00. then that's it for a couple of

every time a new charter school opens in massachusetts, it takes funding away from regular public schools in that area. this year alone, charter schools will take more than 400 million dollars away from neighborhood public schools. instead of draining even more money from neighborhood public schools and giving it to charters, let's devote public resources to all of our students... not just a select few. don't lift the cap on charter schools.
