>> and counter combust caught on camera. the small spark that caused the blast. breaking news in methuen. >> yeah, authorities releasing new information about a murder suspect and here's a look at tattoos on amelio delarosa. one is the big cross and the other below the bicep, the tattoo says wanda, the name of his exgirlfriend. delarosa is accused of strangling her inside their home and police say their 4-year-old son witnessed the crime. delarosa is still on the run. we're also following news from

just dealing with an audit, calling it deeply troubling, unacceptable, finding tens of thousands of dollars in cash, drugs and guns missing. the mayor says some of that have evidence has been recovered. a police officer killed herself after the chief ordered an audit of the evidence locker. >> also breaking, sky 7 hd is live over plymouth where rescuers are searching great herring pond there. several divers are on the water and a coast guard chopper is circling the area from above. we have scene and right now it appears that they're looking for somebody or perhaps a vessel. we're working to get more specifics for you right now. we just know that rescuers are searching that pond in plymouth right now. breaking in bridge water, crews are battling a fire at a junkyard. you can see multiple firetrucks sprang water on to those -- spraying water on the flames and other areas. hopefully not the tires we see there. there are crews trying to contain the fire to deep from spreading even more. another concern they have,

or anything toxic that might be burning right now. and up we go to brentwood, new hampshire. a tense standoff has finally come to an end. s.w.a.t. officers say they found a person dead inside a home, families were kept away from their homes for hours but now we understand they're allowed to return to their home. 7news will stay on top of all of these breaking stories and bring you updatings as we get them here and as it's warranted. in the newsroom, i'm adam williams, 7news. also at 5:30, a sharp man in court today. police say road rage drove him to grab a machete and threaten another driver. >> he says the other driver was the angry one who threatened his kids first. 7's kimberly bookman is live in worcester with what we know. kimberly. >> nick, police say this all happened at the bottom of this street. they say it happened not only in front of the driver's own two children but in front of a bunch of school kids. >> reporter: a gentleman in front of a judge...

you, sir. >> reporter: but witnesses say 41-year-old alder riviera's behavior was dmoind afternoon when he allegedly pulled a machete during a road-rage incident. >> i heard someone say -- and i don't know who -- how'd you like to get your head chopped off. >> reporter: dave reeve was sitting on his driveway where all this happenedded. police say the person driving in front of riviera slowed down in the school zone to let students cross the street and that didn't sit well with riviera. >> t vehicle. he retrieved the ma chety and threatened to cut his head off and at some point struck him in the face. >> reporter: riviera's family says it's true he carry as machete in his car, but not to use as a weapon. >> you fish, we go through the woods, you cut wood. you know, there's a bunch of wood, you know what i mean, so you need a ma chelty to make way. and that's the only reason he had it. >> reporter: his family says he's the real victim here and he

threatened so he acted in self-defense. >> he didn't, you know, pretend he was going to hit the dude with the machete. basically he was just -- his kids and wanted to drive off and the guy kept tailgating him and tailgating him. my brother's not violent. this could happen to anybody. >> reporter: riviera is being held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing on december 1st. a report of an attempt abduction. police say three teenaged boys told them a man jumped out from behind a rock during the townsend library yesterday and tried to grab one of them and another boy was hit on the neck with a rock. the boy says the man has a long gray beard. police searched the woods but couldn't find anybody that fit that description. >> my son wanted to come with me when i went out of the house because he felt a little bit

you want to make sure you're living in a safe town. unfortunately things are happening. it's scary. >> police say they looked at the surveillance video from the library today and they didn't find anything conclusive. >> two people are in custody after two police officers were hurt in a crash in roxbury. police say the driver was trying to get away from them when he plowed his car head-on into an unmarked police car. the police officers inside the car at the time were taken to an area hospital and later released. the suspects were initially on the run for unlawful possession of a heroin and other drugs inside the car after the crash. a man wanted for gunning down a north carolina police officer tracked down in rhode island opinion police raided this providence home last night after reports someone saw the suspect in the area. they didn't find him there, but he was found and arrested in the early hours this morning in coventry. police say the suspect had been on the run since this weekend leading to this tense search for rhode island police. >> we treat every case the same

threat level. obviously he's taken one police officer down and who knows if he wants to do it again. >> reporter: the 23-year-old male suspect was arrested and taken to hospital. police say he had a bullet wound likely from the shoot-out from over the weekend. three others face charges now for harboring a fugitive. >> george zimmerman back in court testifying in a road rage trial. zimmermann took the stand to testify against a man accused of shooting at him during a road-rage incident last year. zimmermann says the man confronted him and shot window. the defense says zimmermann was the aggressor and that the defendant shot at him in self-defense. >> when they found it, they found it hidden, cocked and ready to fire. that was a pistol it that was in mr. zimmermann's hand when he pointed it at mr. ackerson. >> i looked down at my shorts and i saw blood.

>> zimmermann is a former neighborhood watch volunteer who shot and killed 17-year-old trayvon martin back in 2012. zimmermann was not convicted of any crime, sparking protests and a nationallal debate on race relations. caught on camera in new jersey, an explosive transaction at a cash register. a woman's purse burst into flames, smoke pouring out of it. tiers out the woman's ecigarette exploded and she was so startled she didn't realize it was in her bag. >> reporter: it was a typical sunday shopping day at the mall for mara mcenurny until this happened. her purse seems to explode just as she's paying. turns out it was a battery for her vaporizer that exploded. >> i had the battery in this pocket, and it was by itself. and what it did was, it exploded

unding away from regular public schools in that area. this year alone, charter schools will take more than 400 million dollars away from neighborhood public schools. that's not right. instead of draining even more money from neighborhood public schools and giving it to charters, let's devote public resources to all of our students... not just a select few. don't lift the cap on charter schools.

a somerville school promising to rip the script on traditional education and now leaders have $10 million to make their vi the school just won a national competition beating up thousands of schools. >> and now they have the resources to make some major classroom changes. 7's chris anderson walks us through it. >> all this is getting developed and connected to what's now in your school. >> reporter: a lack resnik has tens of millions of reasons to smile. >> we were like, oh, we won $10 million. >> reporter: resnik and his team at steam academy, a small innovation school in somerville,

loreen powell jobs. >> i think it's close to 1,000 by the end of the competition. so really we weren't expecting to win at all. >> reporter: but they did and it couldn't have come at a better time. resnik is the director of the new public school being developed in somerville called powder house studios, an expanded version of steam academy that rethinks the traditional learning model. >> really is project competency based, allows us with our students to be able to retrieve each one working individually which sometimes can be lost. >> this will be turned into a park along with a little bit of a promenade. >> reporter: the city is going to renovate the old powder house community school. powder house studios is what resident and skipper mary tenant believe school should look like in the future, taking a vocational, artistic and hands-on approach to teaching and learning.

drive, needed to be towed. >> the woman had her big great dane with her and was stranded on the highway, so the trooper decided it was his duty to lend a helping hand. 7's jonathan hall has the story. >> reporter: this medford woman sure loves her dog cowboy. >> he's my best friend. my husband always jokes that i married him for the dog. >> reporter: the great dane was along for the ride when 21-year-old sherry perrault smashed up her toyota yesterday. how did cowboy end up riding shotgun in a massachusetts state police cruiser. >> it might not seem like a big deal what he did, but it was the world to us because he would not have survived on a tow truck the driver suggested the big dog stay in the rav4 as it was towed down the streets of boston.

local police department. many criminal cases now in jeopardy. also breaking, a desperate search in plymouth after reports of a missing woman who was last seen near a body of water. >> reporter: and developing now, the s.w.a.t. teams surrounds a local home and asks neighbors to stay in. the alleged threat that led to this. >> cold front blast through new england this evening. much cooler for first at 6:00, breaking news, a standoff at a brentwood new hampshire home comes to a deadly ending. for hours, neighbors were told to stay inside. >> and the people who were not home were forced to wait in a local clubhouse. jonathan hall joins us now with more on what's going on. >> definitely very tense situation here in new hampshire. one man is dead but luckily no one of his neighbors are hurt after the standoff that happened

dramatic one. a regional s.w.a.t. team trained their guns where an armed suicidal man was holed up inside. there was a talk of a shot fired and turned out the unidentified man had committed suicide. police found him dead in his home where he apparently lived alone. neighbors had to stay in their homes, though, and those who had tried to get back into the complex after leaving were told, no, they can't. they went into a home area where they waited. they say they like this neighborhood but bad things have happened here. let's take you back a couple of years. this firey scene in may of 2014, police here called to a domestic dispute at the complex, an officer was ambushed, murdered on the job. the killer then set off multiple explosions in the home and that burned for hours. police say they acted today out
