police say their 4-year-old son witnessed the crime delarosa is still on the run. we are following breaking news out of bridgewater where a junk yard fire continues to burn. sky 7 hd over chick rabbled's auto junkyard on old plymouth street. several trucks on the scene working to knock down those flames. no word yet on what started the fire. >> also breaking, hundreds of criminal cases from the city of braintree are now in jeopardy. they could be thrown out because of police department's evidence room. >> this scandal is really rocking the law enforcement community. let's get out to byron barnett live in quincy with how all this started. byron. >> yeah, well, the mayor just a few minutes ago released this 50 page audit of the braintree police evidence room which is located right here in the braintree police department, this after dozens of guns and hundreds of thousands of dollars and seized cash and seized drugs turned up missing.

of drug cases there's concern that hundreds could be put into jeopardy. now this alarming turn of events began back in may when the braintree police officer in charge of the evidence room committed suicide after learning that the evidence room was being audited by an outside agency. the audit released by the mayor found that between 60 and 70 guns were missing from the evidence room as well as $400,000 in seized cash and lots of seized drug michael morrisey has asked judges to throw out six drug cases this week and many more are expected. now here's what the braintree mayor had to say when he released the vineddings of the audit a short time ago. >> i find the auditor's report of unaccounted for items and poor recordkeeping practices by the police department to be deeply troubling and

supervision of elisa mackey has and will continue conducting an investigation to determine the scope and the cause of the unaccounted for items. this audit makes clear that there were significanted a straifng errors in the handling of the storage of evidence by the department. >> sources tell 7news that two of the missing guns were found in the home of the braintree police officer. the mayor says all but 12 of those missing guns have been accounted for and that about $140,000 in seized cash, missing cash, has been be found. the mayor also says that the police department will now be following the recommendations from the auditor for new practices and procedures inside the evidence room and the investigation he says is ongoing.

plymouth, a water search underway for a missing person. sky 7 hd over the scene of great herring pond. we do understand that a dive team is there. >> and the coast guard also helping out with the search. let's go to 7's brandon gunnoe. he's on the phone for us right now and can tell us more about what's going on. brandon. >> yeah, it appears to be a recovery effort at this point. you said the coast guard was here. they didn't find anything. they haven't person to search but we're told it was a 26-year-old swimmer who was in the water, a boater. police and fire officials aren't saying much but they have about five votes out there, about half a dozen divers have been in the water since a little bit before 4:00 p.m. or just around 4:00 searching for this missing person. we're told 26-year-old man after people who live in the idea, again, we're waiting for official word from the rescue

told is that three people are on a boat and jump in the water to take a swim. it's pretty windy out here and the boat actually started to blow away. we're told the woman was able to swim to the boat but the two men were having a problem and one of the men did not make it. again, it appeared to be a recovery effort, a lot of divers out there in the water and they've been out there for sometime but we're still waiting to hear the official word as it starts to continue. last the latest live on the phone in gunnoe, 7news. traffic still a mess on route 9 eastbound six hours after a bad wreck. two people were sent to the hospital after the car crashed into a telephone pole. that's what you're looking at. that pole snapped in half bringing down the wires with the sky 7 hd over the scene this afternoon. the right lane is still shut down and is expected to stay that way until crews are able to repair that pole and then remove the downtown wires. after the crash, the fire department had to use hydraulic
