publicly say that he believes that barack obama was born in the united states. he's refused to say so as recently as this week. he's refused to say so repeatedly over the course of this campaign. he was one of the nation's most prominent birthers. it actually launched him into national politics. his campaign is hoping with its new statement on his belaugh they'll help put this issue to rest. with donald trump fanning the flames of the birther movement for years, his campaign, over fires. the trump team issuing a reversal saying, "mr. trump believes president obama was born in the united states." the statement also crediting trump for a "great service to the president and the country" by getting president obama to release his birth certificate and falsely accusing hillary clinton's 2008 campaign of first raising the issue. notably the statement comes from the campaign, not from trump himself who in a "washington post" interview just 24 hours earlier still refused to say

if you are on a plane. does that change now that there is an official recall? could it be airlines say don't bring them on at all? >> i think so. the faa now expected to ban the use of the note 7 onboard commercial planes. that's no longer voluntary. banning the use of them. the fear is that a run-away fire involving batteries onboard a plane is just extremely dangerous. >> terrifying to even contemplate. thank you so much. now to the frightening scene here in new york city on thursday. a man attacked an off-duty police officer wn cleaver. it happened near penn station at the height of the evening rush hour. police say officers confronted the man when they saw him trying to remove a boot from a car he apparently was living in. this video was taken moments before police confronted the 32-year-old. when they approached him, he pulled out an 11-inch meat cleaver and ran. after a brief chase, the suspect hit one detective in the face with the cleaver. three police officers opened fire wounding him. he is in critical condition.

mesh lining? >> a lot of people don't know about this but they make these mesh liners which are breathable for your baby. if it rolls over to the edge of the crib, you don't want it to suffocate. definitely make sure to invest in a mesh liner and make sure your baby has that open ventilation. >> after people give birth, you are given a lot of flowers. >> sticking with the floral theme, we went with some floral them into art. i love the idea of taking the bouquets that your family and friends give you when you have the baby, drying them out and hanging them upside down in the nursery. this is a simple wooden plank. we hung the flowers just with some twine. and it is beautiful. it also has a nice floral scent for the baby. >> a nice natural scent, too. instead of the phony fragrances of all the wipes and everything. amanda on our "today" parenting

repurpose an old curio cabinet. >> you can find these on craigslist, or a flea market. you may even have one in your house. this year we repurposed it into a dresser which is really great because it has see through windows. you can always see where things are. you don't have to dig through drawers. we painted the backdrop a light soft pink to match the theme of the nursery. you get that nice pop of color. >> i love that. mine if i had an open cabinet would just be a ball of organized. over here is more of a modern take on the nursery. i'll start with some of the wall decor because this is a little unusual. we used drawer knobs and turned them into these colorful pegs you can use for virtually anything. >> how do you attach those to the wall? >> use an anchor. change the screw in the back of the doorknob and it passes right into the knob. these cost literally dollars.

if you need to. >> nice. then i see shapes and hexagons and triangle type shelving. >> geometric shelving is really popular in the decor market right now. i love the idea of playing it up for your nursery. use succulents. you can bring some of these natural scents in to the nursery with greenery. succulents are easy to keep alive. you don't have to worry about watering the plants which is always nice. if you do some of these geometric shelves, it is a huge en >> furniture wise, a nice space saver with the corner changing table. >> nurseries are usually the smaller rooms in the house. >> yes. it is very small. >> you into ed to maximize all the space you can. this is a corner changing table. it is so great. it comes with a hamper right underneath it because you are constantly changing your baby, of course, and it has everything you need. all kinds of compartments. fits right into the corner. amazing for maximizing your

rocket in chicago is here with a great one-pot meal. >> what are we making today? >> this is one of my favorite dishes at rocket. it is hearty, it's got some spice but it is really healthy with ingredients like chicken, garlic, green peppers, jalapenos, tomatillos, all kinds of good stuff. first we're just something really easy here. season with a little salt and pepper. i'm using chicken thighs here. i like chicken thighs because they're just tastier. and we're just going to brown them on each side which will also kick up the flavor profile a bit. you're just doing this right here in your pot. you are going to use the same pot the whole time. once you brown it, it will look great. add some chicken stock to cook it all the way through.

separate it. you can use turkey or pork, if you want, by the way. totally mix it up. then you go et to your vegetables. we've got green peppers, on yoenonions, just sweat that out to get nice and tender. then hit it with a little bit more salt. then just add the garlic, jalapenos for a little bit more heat, cayenne for some heat. you do it in stages because you want it to sweat at the appropriate rate and also get the good mix going. tomatillo -- >> you're putting some spice in here. >> i know. >> we are also going to be sweating at the appropriate rate. >> i know. then shredded chicken. you can use rotisserie chicken if you want to cut all those steps. or even leftover chicken. throw it all in. after about 30 minutes of turning the heat down and letting it simmer, now smell
