notre dame will play duke here. the bigger picture of this comeback that might fall a drive start, as kelly tries to get the answers from his defensive coordinator. notre dame is going to lose two of the first three. and you can recover from an early loss to get back in the playoff picture. you can recover from early loss, especially when you're in a conference. the stated goal of being part of a college football playoffs, like the spartans were last year, is slipping out of the gr unless they can make something special happen. second and five for msu. holmes is stopped. spartans snap it with 1:10 left for third down. the spartans next week, play wisconsin.

>> anchor: breaking news out of manhattan. an explosion rocking one of the neighborhoods. three buildings damaged. at least 25 people were hurt. >> anchor: a news conference taking place right now. mayor de blasio speaking to the media. let's listen in. >> preliminary information is something we will be investigating very carefully. there is no evidence at this point, of a terror connection. i also want to affirm that

connection to the incident in new jersey. it is, again, too early to say anything definitive on those questions. but there is no specific evidence of a connection at this point. i want to say more broadly, there is no specific and credible threat against new york city at this point in time from any terror organization. so as we are analyzing what happened here, we are doing that against the back-drop. we have no credible and specific threat at this moment. clear, the early indications, initial indications is this was an intentional act. we will have a lot more to say in the coming hours as we have more detailed analysis. we believe at this point in time, this was an intentional act. i want to assure all new yorkers that the nypd and all other agencies are on full alert and our anti-terror capacity in, particular, is at

and our other key units, our strategic response group, our emergency services unit, all are on alert and all are dealing with this situation and being vigilant all over the city at this point in time. and we have, in this city, the most advanced antiterror capacity of any city in this country. obviously, the largest police force of any city in the country. all ready to ensure our safety. now, i want to be clear. whatever the cause, ev yorkers will not be intimidated. we are not going to let anyone change who we are or how we go about our lives. we have the best police force in the country and a number of other key agencies, fdny, et cetera, making sure we will be safe. we are, at this point, of course, tracing every lead and every potential. it is too early to give you any details of the

hours. i want to say up front, we are not going to go into a lot of detail about what we are finding so far in an investigation that will certainly take more hours before we can give you more. we want to urge all new yorkers, anyone who may have information related to this incident, anyone who was an eyewitness, anyone who may have video, the nypd needs. that please reach out immediately if you have any information that we can use. call 1-800-577-tips. if you have any pertinent information. finally, a second site, as we speak, is being treated by the nypd. it is 27th street. between sixth and seventh avenues. there is an investigation under way and a substantial nypd presence on that street. and that street has been cleared as this investigation continues. with that, i want to turn it over to commissioner james

at approximately 8:30 this evening, officers from the tenth precinct were on patrol, driving westbound on west 23rd street when they witnessed a large explosion in front of 131 west 23rd street. the officers immediately called for additional units and ambulances. f.b.i. joint terrorist task force were requested to respond. as of this time, the exact cause of the explosion has not been determined. the investigation into this incident is active. at this time, an extensive search is being conducted. as the mayor spoke, there is an ongoing situation on 27th street right now. the area around the explosion site is being treated as a crime scene.

evidence to indicate that this explosion is the result of any natural gas cause. again, the exact nature and cause of the explosion has not been determined yet. as of the most recent information, there have been 29 injuries reported. one of these injuries may be considered serious. and the commissioner will talk about that in a couple of minutes. the fire department is currently assessing the extent of any possible structural damage explosion. as further information is developed, we will provide it and give you updates. commissioner? >> our units heard this, actually, from their locations and joined the nypd members on the scene search the buildings that were affected. and as commissioner o'neill said, there were 29 injuries

24 of these people have been transported to area hospitals. with various degrees of scrapes, abrasions, from glass, from metal. thankfully, none of these are life-threatening injuries. and the 24 patients that have been removed are not in a serious condition other than the one patient with a puncture wound. >> thank you very much, commissioner. okay. we will take your questions now. >> was there a bomb i dumpster, mr. mayor? >> again, it is too early to determine specifically what the incident was caused by. what we are telling you this evening, we believe it was intentional. a full investigation is under way. as soon as we are able to determine what specifically caused this explosion, we are going to report that to you. >> anchor: okay. you have been listening live there to new york's mayor. they are saying that explosion was not terrorist-related, but it was, in fact, intentional. >> anchor: yeah. the investigation is is

we will kind of break down what we know as of right now. >> reporter: well, nick and nicole, reports of the explosion came in just before 9:00 tonight. new york city fire officials confirming at least 29 people are hurt. and they are calling this, as you mentioned, an intentional attack. police and fire crews say the explosion happened near 23rd street and sixth avenue in the chelsea neighborhood. tonight, traffic is restricted in the area as crews continue to investigate. police say the victims have non-life-threatening hospitals. witnesses are talking about the terrifying moments, saying they fell the explosion. >> it was scary at first. and then it sounded like thunder. and it just sounded really heavy. and if you are close, it did kind of, like, you felt it in your heart. you know? like, when you are hearing fireworks, it felt like fireworks. >> right now, i feel... i'm scared. i don't know what happened. if you live here, like the

to get groceries now. >> it sounded like a million pianos just dropped. or a big thunderstorm. >> anchor: you see right... take a look at these photos. car windows completely shattered. investigators say these pictures imply the blast was caused by an explosive device. law enforcement officials say the explosive device was placed in or near a dumpster. multiple agencies are on the scene, including the nypd counterterrorism unit and the bomb squad. for f any other explosive devices as a precaution. again, at this hour, they are saying this appears to be an intentional act. we will be sure to keep you updated on this story as we learn more. >> anchor: now, this comes hours after a device went off in seaside park, new jersey. this happened just before thousands of people were set to run in the marine corps charity race. the event was canceled as officers dressed in tactical

securing the scene. >> if the race did go off on time, there would have been a lot of injuries. >> it's so scary. you know, there is nowhere safe anymore. we love it here. you never hear anything like that around here. >> anchor: now, the blast went off inside a trash can. debris was spread thousands of feet away. no one was injured in this. we just got an update from mayor de blasio as well as emergency officials in new york city. they do not bel both investigations are ongoing. >> anchor: also from the night team: a water rescue in nahant. two dyers pulled from the water. one of them was unconscious. >> anchor: yeah. both rushed to salem emergency room for treatment. the night team's kelli o'hara is in nahant with the details. >> reporter: yeah. and police now tell us the district attorney's office is investigating what happened here out on the water. but people here say it is
