they're on a crusade to block services new hampshire women and families depend on: cancer screenings, birth control, basic women's healthcare. kelly ayotte and washington republicans have put defunding planned parenthood at the top of their agenda... and it's time for that to change. i'm maggie hassan and i approve this message. >> this is 7 news at noon. >> sarah: we begin w in new york and new jersey. police now have a suspect in custody. rahm ahmad khan rahami has been arrested in linden, new jersey following a shoot-out with police. this is video of the suspect getting loaded into the ambulance. it it appears that his arm was wounded. one officer was hit. the injuries are non-life-threatening. these photos were released this morning. and then later we received word of the shoot-out and his arrest.

and that launched this manhunt. >> christa: all right. so things are developing very rapidly in this case. thank you so much for joining us for 7 news at noon. >> sarah: there are huge developments on the bombings this afternoon. let's get out to dan hausle. he is live in new york city for us with the very latest. dan? >> reporter: well, this is where a key element in the investigation happened where that pressure-cooker device was found. right here on the sidewalk an event that eventually led to his capture. ly. 's show you that video from new jersey within the hour. it shows rahami apparently, injured in the shoot-out. you can see him being carried off on the stretcher. his arm wrapped in a bandage after his confrontation with police. one witness account says the police car pulled up on him. he turned and fired six shots. there are reports that one or two officers may have been

and arrest of rahami. the suspect is sa new jersey resident. from afghanistan. he became a u.s. citizen. the f.b.i. put out his picture, asking for the public's help finding him and calling rahami armed and dangerous. he was found and captured within hours. witnesses describing the confrontation. >> just happened to be checking out facebook at the time. and i saw the video of him running by. and then all of a sudden, shots fired. you know, then we come right now. >> what did it sound like? >> it just sounded like, you know, pop, pop, pop. you know what i mean? >> reporter: the capture happened in linden, new jersey. the neighboring town to elizabeth, new jersey. that is where the f.b.i. raided an apartment looking for are hami this morning. the same time... town where a bag of pipe bombs was found overnight. president obama is here in new york for u.n. meetings and

investigators were making today's arrest. >> you know, at moments like this, i think it is important to remember what terrorists and violent extremists are trying to do. they are trying to hurt innocent people, but they also want to inspire fear in all of us. and disrupt the way we live. to undermine our values. and so even as we have to be vigilant and aggressive, both in preventing senseless acts sure that we find those who carry out such acts and bring them to justice,... >> reporter: president obama crediting the work of investigators. in a matter of hours after the bomb went off in chelsea saturday night, 29 people injured, by the flying shrapnel. all of them already out of the hospital. that bomb said to be similar to the pressure-cooker with a phone taped to it found here just a few blocks away.

type device that apparently looks like the bomb that went off a few blocks away from here. you've got pipe bombs found in a bag overnight in new jersey. and a pipe bomb that went off earlier saturday morning outside a charity run. possibly avoiding injury simply because that race went off late. all of it believed connected to this suspect caught within the hour and possibly connected to as many as five people who were taken into custody overnight after a traffic stop no word on whether any of those suspects have been actually arrested or charged. this investigation moving quickly. coming to these developments less than 48 hours after the bombs went off here in new york. we are live in new york city, dan hausle, 7 news. >> sarah: thanks, dan. massachusetts state police have released a statement that reads in part, "massachusetts state police have checked identification information for ahmad khan rahami, a person of interest and the man had tan

systems to. this point, no nexus between ahmad khan rahami and the state of massachusetts has been found." >> christa: however, for many the bombs set off in new jersey and new york are bringing back memories of the boston marathon bombing. investigators say there are similarities between the attacks. here is victoria warren with that part of the story. >> reporter: on new york city streets, an explosion. then a second device found made from wires and a pressure-cooker. >> well, it sounds, you know, hauntingly reminiscent of the boston marathon bombings in 2013. >> they are looking at improvised explosives. the discussion seems to be about pressure-cookers. it brings back a lot ofive is id memories of the boston marathon. >> i can tell you they are doing the same things that we did following the marathon. they are looking at all the evidence. >> reporter: both the former head of the state police and the former boston police commissioner say new york city

and a massive crime scene, especially given the nature of how pressure-cooker bombs explode. >> they will be collecting every piece of evidence they can locate on the streets. we found it in boston on building pops, you know, on adjacent streetways. >> reporter: one in big difference: in new york, they have a bomb that didn't go off. that could hold vital clues. just like in boston, surveillance cameras are everywhere. >> the biggest break came from quite frankly, it is the most important piece, this digital evidence that we can access now is the single most important piece of evidence. >> reporter: some similar dis. but also some very important differences. here in boston at the finish line, three people were killed by the bombings and more than 200 people injured. in boston, victoria warren, 7 news. >> sarah: now to the race for the white house. hillary clinton and donald

9:44 this morning. all of the passengers got off the plane. no one was injured. they are now senning maintenance crews out to inspect the plane to determine if, indeed, it was a lightning strike while it was en route back tos with. again, the plane was headed toward bermuda when it had a noncritical equipment issue onboard. that prompted the pilot to reroute the plans back here to boston. we had an announcement a few minutes ago now. a final call for people to board that flight, flight 1731 to bermuda that originated at j.f.k. airport in new york. it looks like those passengers will be arriving in bermuda sometime soon. that flight should be leaving here at any moment at logan. >> christa: all right, thank you. also at noon, the man police say was at the wheel in this fatal crash into the sweet tomatoes restaurant in newton called to court. two people were killed. 7 others injured. in that crash. back in march. let's go live to jennifer eagan with the latest on what

west of boston, there will be some spotty showers out there. look at this. we are also picking up three inches of rain in royalston. jaffrey, new hampshire, close to three inches as well. beneficial stuff. i mean, right over parts of the area that have had the extreme drought. even worcester, just close to two inches of rain. just under it there, pepperell an inch and a third. lunenburg coming in about ann an inch and a third as well. pouft, new hampshire, an inch of water. kind of skipped over the heaviest rain from north of boston now south of boston. boston area and down through the south shore saying, hey, where is my downpour? you know, we could use some rain. overall, though, we will have two areas that tend to be jackpot areas. one mere the massachusetts-new hampshire border. and one near the south coast of new england. we have a flood advisory in place near buzzards bay. up through southern portions of plymouth county and bristol county until 1:00 p.m. then the secondary flood advisory across parts of the cape. essentially, close to hyannis.

worked in and a lot of towns in and around the buzzards bay area, falmouth, and barnstable, up into plymouth have quickly picked up on some rain the last hour or. two even some spots, when you start getting underneath these reds, showing indication of rain rates, one to two inches per hour. you can quickly pick up half an inch of rain when that comes on through. we have seen that. mainly down pinned to the coastline. now, you work your way up route 3. up 24 into boston. a gentle light rain right now. some light rain still steady into worer right along the south coast. although we are starting to see this blossom up a little bit back into central connecticut. that is going to keep some shower chances going. in boston. and up through the merrimack valley. at least into the late afternoon hours. again, not consistently heavy rain. once in a while, there may be an embedded downpour in that. we go through overnight tonight into tomorrow. we start to dry it out. although a couple of lingering showers likely around southeastern massachusetts overnight tonight and early tomorrow. by the afternoon, getting back to partly sunny skies.

arrests, there are several huge developments on the bombings this afternoon. so let's send it out to dan hausle. he is live in new york city for us. with the very latest. dan? >> reporter: well, that unexploded pressure-cooker device reportedly with rahami's fingerprint was found right here in new york city on this sidewalk. we are waiting for the news conference any minute now. i wouldn't be surprised if it was delayed a bit. i think it was scheduled before they were going to have such momentous less than an hour ago. take a look at that video again. you can see ahmad khan rahami on the stretcher being loaded into an ambulance. apparently, injured in the shoot-out. there is his arm wrapped in a bandage after his confrontation with police. one witness account says a police car pulled up on him and he turned and fired six shots. there are reports of one, maybe two officers injured. but the earlier reports are those injuries are minor. he is a 28-year-old new jersey resident from afghanistan.

>> kris: change of plans this morning. this plane took off going toward bermuda. two situations developed while onboard. first there was a noncritical equipment issue. that forced the pilot to change the plans and head toward boston. while entruth logan, though, apparently, that plane was struck by lightning. and again, jetblue is saying that the rerouting, the changing directions to come to boston had nothing to do with the lightning strike. they are sending out their maintenance crews plane landed safely at logan to try to determine, if, indeed, it was a lightning strike that hit that plane. all of the passengers did get off the plane safely. it landed at 9:44 this morning. jetblue had made accommodations to take those passengers over to bermuda to finish their flight. we are some developments here this morning, actually. >> you look up and come out here live to the big board, you see bermuda. this is flight 171. the flight that left j.f.k. this morning. it has departsed.

the one condition for his release that, he not operate a vehicle. in woburn, 7 news. >> christa: also on 7: fast man fighting for his life after being shot outside a nightclub in allston. this was on linden street. near the garage boston nightclub late last night. plils say someone shot the victim several times and then drove off. right now he is listed in critical condition and investigators believe there was some sort of fight that led up to the shooting. >> there is always altercations when >> any time we have any kind of violence, especially involving guns and individuals are now fighting for their lives, it is a big concern to us. >> sarah: police have not made any arrests soer fa. >> christa: a 14-year-old was struck and killed by a commuter rail train in newton. police say he was standing on the inbound track when he was hit on friday night. police do not suspect foul play.

everybody jumped out before the crash happened. no one onboard the plane or inside the house was seriously hurt. and a plane off the runway. authorities say a united airlines flight was taxiing sunday. the plane's brakes failed. they sent the aircraft into the grass. the pilot used an emergency reverse engine maneuver to stop the plane from going into a ditch. no one was hurt. passengers safely exited and then boarded a second flight to their destination. a driver in china has his car removed from an unusual spot. crews moved a car off the roof of a home. police say the car ended up there after the driver tried to back out too fast. boy, you don't see that every day do, you? luckily no, one was hurt. >> chris: we have rain outside today. a lot of us picking up the drops. some locations, beneficial stuff. we will go over the numbers coming up. >> sarah: the very latest on

the rain. but it's been beneficial out there. you are taking a look at the drought monitor here from extreme drought stretching through southern new hampshire out through central and northern worcester county. and across much of eastern massachusetts. where did we put down a lot of the water? a lot of the rain did fall across parts of that extreme drought. in fact, it is raining hard enough where it has been... a couple of flood advisories in efek for the cape as well as southern bristol and plymo in the last couple of hours. in terms of the heavy rain, it's almost been like a split decision. not all of us enjoying that soaking rain. we have lost out on the heaviest. cape ann through boston. south of the mass. pike. all the way down through southeastern massachusetts. you start to get south of route 44 and especially near buzzards bay, we picked up on quite a bit of rain. how much rain? one to two inches, generally, a theme here across southern new hampshire. the massachusetts-new hampshire border. even a few towns picking up

royalston, massachusetts, three inches of water coming out of. this even worcester, just under two. then you have to skip all the way back down to the south coast. to get close to one to one and a half-inch reports. you can see some of these cells. they are isolated in nature. you get a burst of rain. then it pulls back a little bit. then you get another burst down near falmouth. boston, out to worcester, generally, a steady light rain at this time. we continue see some steady rain out through connecticut and some embedded downpours percolating back up across western massachusetts. the theme of some scattered showers and storms certainly there in the forecast throughout the rest of the afternoon. 70 in boston. 74 in norwood. soupy air mass in place. you feel the tropical feel to the air. there is a ton of water vapor

front slides off to the east of us in its wake. we dry out. wednesday into thursday, another beautiful stretch of weather. warm but with low humidity that go-round. mid to upper 70's this afternoon. wind is out of the southwest. you have to start changing that wind direction out of the northwest to dry us out. we will do that tomorrow. this evening, overnight tonight into tomorrow morning, a couple of showers around leftover. mostly acrossth by the afternoon, partly to mostly sunny skies. temperatures lower to middle 80's. this is going to be a pleasant night at gillette. thursday night football in foxboro, 72 degrees at kickoff. back into the 6's throughout the game. not bad. right? fall officially arriving on thursday. although it won't officially feel like it until the weekend. breezy and cool saturday and sunday. >> sarah: a bizarre beach rescue taking place in rhode island. a man gets his head stuck in some rocks.

>> christa: yeah. they had to work against the rising tide here. and very fast. certainly, not your everyday type of call for first responders in narragansett who say a man got himself wedged between two rocks on a jetty. >> the area was off-limits. he was pretty far down there. >> christa: after two and a half hours, they were able to free him with an outside the box approach. >> olive oil did trick. we managed to spray him down and apply a lot ol olive oil. we were able to dislodge him. reporth firefighters say the man was there with one other person when he dropped his phone. when he bent down to pick it up, he got himself stuck all the way up to his chest. they knew they had to get him out before the tide came in. >> that was one of our concerns. where we would be later on. in the event. had the event lasted longer. f >> reporter: firefighters didn't use air-bags out of fear the rocks would shift, making matters worse. the man went to a nearby

>> christa: we have breaking news on the bombings in new york and new jersey. over the weekend. and overnight. police now have a suspect in custody. his name is ahmad khan rahami. this is video of him into our newsroom. he was arrested in linden, new jersey. after a shoot-out with police. what you are looking at here is video of the suspect getting loaded into the ambulance. it looks like there is a wound on his arm. we knoll one officer was hit. those injuries are non-life-threatening. what you are looking at here are photos earlier released of the suspect. investigators say they found his fingerprint on an unexploded device. that is when they launched the manhunt. we have a news conference from the officials in new york in about-- let's see-- a half hour from now. we will bring it to you live
