donald trump compared his sacrifices to the sacrifices of two parents who lost their son in war. how would you answer that father? what sacrifice have you made for your country? i think i've made a lot of sacrifices, built great structures. i've had tremendous success, i think... those are sacrifices? >> christa: the latestn't the federal prosecutors now building a case against the accused bomber now in custody. he is being held on more than $5 million bail for a shoot-out with police and charges for the bombings are due to be next. thank you for watching 7 news at noon. >> kris: we are learning more about this man who officials believe left those bombs scattered across new york and new jersey. ahmad khan rahami moved to the u.s. in 1995 as a child. he became a naturalized citizen in 20 11.

the country a few days before the bombings. the u.s. is now working with officials in pakistan and the united arab emirates to try and get access to her. the "new york times" is reporting now that rahami's father told police his son was a terrorist two years ago, prompting a review by federal agents. our team 7 coverage begins with dan hausle in new york city. >> reporter: terror suspect ahmad khan rahami wounded by captured alive after desperate shoot-out oth >> you see gunshots. boom, boom, boom. >> reporter: one of the officers was hit, saved by a kevlar vest. rahami trying to run from police. the bar owner told a friend he thought the man sleeping in his doorway was the suspect whose picture was plastered all over tv on the internet. >> this guy looked exactly like him. let's call the cops. wloort happened when the police came up to him?

maybe 20 seconds. that is when he went for his gun. he just shot, boom, boom. >> reporter: investigators have evidence that ties rahami to the bomb that exploded in chelsea, injuring 29. the similar pressure cooker device found nearby, the pipe bomb that exploded near a new jersey charity run, and the back-pack full of pipe bombs also found in new jersey, one exploding when a police robot cut a wire. new yorkers responded to police calls to help showed me some of the surveillance pictures he gave investigators. he says this shows rahami dragging a suitcase police think contained the pressure cooker device. jane shotted the device and called 9 11. >> there was something so weird about it. i came back and took a second look. i taught it looked suspicious. i called 9 11. >> reporter: do you feel like a belated hire row? >>.

>> reporter: federal investigators continue to weigh their case in connection to any charges rahami might face for the bombing here. right now they don't have to worry about him going anywhere, though. he remains hospitalized. held on more than $5 million bail and facing five counts of attempted murder of police officers in connection with the shoot-out that led to his arrest. we are in new york city, dan hausle, 7 news. >> kris: we are also learning more about a potential connection between those bombs in new york and new jersey and the boston marathon attack. pe reporting that there was a note left on one of the unexploded devices that mentioned the tsarnaev brothers. our 7 team coverage continues now with byron barnett. >> reporter: from the surveillance video to the shoot-out with police to the pressure cooker loaded with b.b.'s and ball bearings, there are striking similarities between the new york terror takedown and the boston marathon bombings. but now a direct link. cnn reporting that a note found on the unexploded bomb

the tsarnaev brothers. the pressure cooker bomb that failed to explode was the same sort of improvised device that killed three people and wounded more than 260 in the boston marathon attack. one of the big questions that remains unanswered, did ahmad khan rahami work alone? the former boston police commissioner ed dais does not think so. >> they don't do this by looking at the internet. they have to have someone show them how to do it. and it is strange to me that there are so many statements coming from the investigators that these are lone wolves. it doesn't seem possible. >> reporter: in the wake of the terror takedown, increased security across massachusetts. state police say they will have an increased presence at gillette stadium for thursday night's patriots game. and at public transit stations and regional transportation centers, state police are increasing patrols to supplement normal patrols by

jimmy garoppolo? or will it be the back-up to the back-up jacoby brissett? we wanted to know what the coach felt about it. after all, we are only two days away from this big game. but he is not telling. espn is reporting patriots quarterback jimmy garoppolo could play thursday night. depilot spraining his shoulder on sunday. >> coach, how concerned are you about the quarterback position? is it possible that jimmy could be ready in time to play >> well, we haven't practiced today. we will filele the injury report after practice based on how it goes today. report tt coach sparred with the print reporter who pressed him on how he balances jimmy g's health concerns with the best interest of the team. he seems to contradict himself. >> the players' personal situation, his health always comes first. that always comes first. that is not a football

we will warm temperatures up to near 80. if not above it. especially north and west of boston. dew point levels running into the upper 60's. that is the higher humidity in place. we have had a couple of spot showers down through the cape and the islands. this won't last that much longer. you see the trend of more sunshine breaking on out. i do expect more sunshine and mainly dry weather to prevail mid to late afternoon. a few locations running into the mid-80's north and west of 495. close to 80 in boston. southeastern massachusetts. not much rain in the forecast. does look like a warm workweek. much cooler weather into the weekend. >> kris: a physical education teacher in wilmington returning to class after allegedly assaulting a woman and breaking her nose. after officially being put on paid administrative leave, this man was allowed to return to work. some parents and teachers are concerned, saying they wanted to let the legal process play itself out before this teacher was allowed to return. the school superintendent issued this statement now.

election days now. 49 days to go in the race for the white house. and hillary clinton is leading in a key poll after hitting the campaign trail again over the past few days. 50% of likely voters are backing her in the latest nbc survey monkey poll while 45% are backing republican donald trump. now, this comes as trump has been catching up to clintnon recent polls, even passing her in some. hillary clinton, meantime, may have the support of a former republican president, h.w. bush is planning to vote for clinton,. kathleen kennedy townsend said bush told her about his plans when they met in maine on monday. bush's spokesperson says his vote will remain private. one of donald trump's sons grabbing headlines this morning. donald trump jr. tweeted this image comparing a bowl of poisoned skittles to syrian refugees that read, "if i had a bowl of skittles and told

walking out the door this morning, did not feel like fall. 72 in boston. 78 in fitchburg. humidity is up there. dew point levels, upper 6's to lower 70's. this is some humid stuff. it helped fuel the downpours we had yesterday. at least north and west of boston. and down across the south coast. the wind is on-shore in the city. localized sea breezes kicking in there. we will have temperatures coolest along the immediate afternoon. a couple of rain showers still prevailing down across the cape. solid band of clouds still extending from the cape, back into buzzards bay. you get north of route 44, up into the boston area, some breaks, some thinning of the overcast. and then north and west of town, up across 495, getting close to the merrimack valley, southern new hampshire, northern worcester county. we do have the sun working in. the dry air working in. as we kick out the shower

this was what julia was in terms of the tropical storm. creating a lot of heavy rains across the outer banks. as well as into virginia. we will miss out on that moisture. that will get kicked out off to the east coast here. as this cold front west of us crosses the area. that will lower the humidity. we are talking about warm weather wednesday and thursday. but we are not talking about consistent high humidity in place. we will keep it down here. dew points within the including on thursday. comes up a little bit on friday. the next cold front comes through on friday night. that one means business fbs. we are talking about a big air mass change for the weekend. a couple of tropical storms out in the atlantic. karl and lisa. neither one will be a threat to the united states. there will be a close call at bermuda with karl as it continues to strengthen and move off to the northwest and eventually off to the nooebs. curving back out into the

that area. this year alone, charter schools will take more than 400 million dollars away from neighborhood public schools. that's not right. instead of draining even more money from neighborhood public schools and giving it to charters, let's devote public resources to all of our students... not just a select few. don't lift the cap on charter schools.

tuesday. kind of 50-50 when it comes to the chance of sunshine. lent's get a check in on the forecast from chris lambert. we hope for the better half of that 50. >> chris: we will get the better half this afternoon. more sunshine does reappear here. 71 in boston. east and southeasterly breeze at eight miles an hour. where you have had more of the sunshine already, the last couple of hours, fitchburg, up to jaffrey, new hampshire. temperatures running close to 80 degrees. i think a lot of locations north and west of 495, low to mid-8's this afternoon. through places like norwood, should hit 80 degrees. if not 82, 83 this afternoon. leftover showers down near buzzards bay, the cape and the islands. this activity is wayneing. we are continuing to thin out the cloud cover. for the rest of the day, much of the time will be spent on the dry side. yes, it is still muggy. tomorrow, we are back in the 80's. with much lower humidity.

>> kris: take a look at this. investigators say the man in these surveillance pictures went into a cvs, handed the pharmacist a note, demanding oxycodone. the suspect got the pills and then walked out of the store. a mother in providence, rhode island facing charges after police say she threw her toddlers out of a window. investigators say benita barbour tossed two-year-old boys out of a first-floor window on sunday. the children had some scrapes and bruises. they are now in state custody. >> christa: 15 criminal cases have been dismissed so far in response to that evidence scandal at the braintree police department. the first recent person to have charged dropped after a breach at the department's evidence room. investigators say nearly 500,000 dollars had been stolen along with thousands of pieces of evidence, including guns, drugs, and personal property. >> it is really surprising. i'm very disappointed in the police department. allowing this to happen.

puts in jeopardy, the court system and you know, the innocence or guilt of many defendants. >> christa: many more cases are expected to be dismissed after a recent audit of the police department. >> kris: disturbing video in oklahoma. the video shows the moments just before an unarmed man was shot and killed by a police officer. now, that officer is on paid leave. and the incident is under investigation. 7's jni a cruiser's dash cam cap churpd it all. another angle from a police helicopter up above. the last moments of terrence crutcher's life playing out on a tulsa, oklahoma road. someone had called 911 and reported crutcher's s.u.v. was stopped, blocking traffic. his family says he was simply having car trouble. an officer is heard saying crutcher wasn't cooperating. crutcher, a 40-year-old father of four, did put his hands up.

schools are starting now. my son had bronchitis already last week. >> christa: i hope he is feeling better. >> kris: he is. >> chris: too soon. too soon. right? a huge temperature swing by the weekend. low 60's for highs by sunday. a breeze as well. it will feel like fall outside. in the meantime, still feeling like summer this afternoon. temperatures will warm up into the low 80's. and you look at the extension of the extreme drought that we have had across much of eastern new england it. you can see that a lot of this red shaded area goes back into worcester county. southeastern new hampshire as well. that is where there was beneficial rain yesterday. we had about two to four inches of rain in the swath from northern worcester county up into southern new hampshire. although before was more isolated in northern worcester county. two to three inches common across that area. then into boston. a third of an inch. that was it. south of the city, a couple

that is where we constantly find some scattered showers in here. throughout the day. they are going to be scattered about the last couple of hours. these showers pretty much over and done with. you note the trend here for the rest of the area. clouds thinning out. returning to sunshine. once that sunshine gets to work, temperatures quickly warming up. in fact, we had a couple of hours of it out at fitchburg. close to 80 out that way. that trend will continue this tonight, mainly clear for a lot of us. the exception, some low clouds, likely lingering down across buzzards bay, the cape and the islands. then as we get into tomorrow, we do feature quite a bit of sunshine. almost looks like i'm showing you a blank map here. that is the forecast. not much in the way of cloud cover or precipitation on wednesday. thursday will look like that as well. there is an ocean breeze. we will hold coolest at the coastline this afternoon. despite getting into sunnier skies. you take a look inland.

we have, indeed, started to warm on up. the other thing that we have going that makes it feel like summer outside today, the muggy start. dew point levels still running into the mid to upper 60's. notably dry air back across sudbury, ontario. that is going to be working in for tomorrow. we are going to drop the dew point levels back into the low 50's. for wednesday and thursday. we will bump it up slightly on friday. out ahead of the cool front. then behind it, not only are we ushering in much cooler weather, but very dry weather with dew points into the 0's here comes that change in the pattern. again, saturday, sunday, and even into monday. temperatures in the 60's. for highs. likely, the coolest day sunday into sunday night. 76-83 flarn. developing sun, coolest at the coastline. clearing overnight tonight. 50's in the cooler suburbs. 66 in boston. the forecast for tomorrow, mostly sunny skitz. lower humidity. 78-84. the 7-day forecast does feature a change in the temperatures. as we get in towards the end
