the details. >> reporter: the officer who fired his gun is on administrative leave today. keith scott's family insists he did nothing wrong. protests erupting in charlotte, north carolina after a police-involved shooting. keith lamont scott was killed by an officer on tuesday. police were looking for another man at an apartment complex but came across scott. >> at this point, all we know is they are in the and this subject gets out with a weapon. they engage him. and one of the officers felt a lethal threat and fired his weapon because of that. >> reporter: scott's family says he wasn't armed. >> he didn't have no gun! he wasn't messing with nobody! they said hands up! he got a gun! pow, pow, pow! that's it! >> reporter: the officer who

the shooting sparked protest. the windows to police cruisers smashed, traffic on i-85 shut down. the goods inside track or the-trailers dragged out and set on fire. police say 12 officers were injured in the protests which lasted until early this morning. officers using what appearedk to tear gas to break up the crowd. >> there was a terrorist, new jersey, new york. he was taken alive. they said they wanted to question him. so because of you wanting to question him, does his life mean more across the nation? it doesn't make any sense. >> reporter: this morning, the city's mayor called for peace. >> give us the time to get the right information and then to continue dialogue going forward. how we continue to be a peaceful community. opportunity is open to everyone. >> reporter: the city's police chief says the officers who were hurt during the protest have minor injuries. in the newsroom, jennifer

roughly 200 protesters gathered last night outside the tulsa police department last night. oklahoma governor is urging residents to remain calm as authorities investigate another shooting. on monday, police released video of 40-year-old terrence crutcher being gunned down by a tulsa police officer. the lawyer for officer betty shelby says slb crutcher was on drugs. she described him as uncooperative when his car stalled in the middle of the road last friday. shelby shot and killed crutcher because she thought she was reaching inside his s.u.v. for a gun. attorneys for crutcher's family, they disagree. >> she clearly believed him to be under the influence of some type of narcotic, possibly pcp. because she has a drug recognition expert. >> this department, like many police departments around america, sees people of color

>> nancy: officials are still investigating to see if criminal charges should be filed. >> sarah: also breaking at noon: an attacker armed with a knife tries to enter the israeli embassy in turkey and is shot by turkish security officials. the man is identified as a turkish national and a preliminary investigation indicates he appears to be mentally unstable and has no known links to any terror groups. the israeli foreign ministry spokesperson says that all embassy staff turning now to the terror takedown at the... they are searching for two more men in connection with the bombing investigations in new york and new jersey. this, as the men accused of setting off the bombs is now facing federal terrorism charges. federal prosecutors say ahmad khan rahami bought bomb-making equipment on-line. investigators say he also wrote about planning the attacks in a journal. one entry said he hoped the sounds of the bombs would be

officer peter hammer receiving thunderous applause as he was released from the hospital tuesday morning. he was shot in the head while he was trying to arrest rahami. hammer says he is lucky to be alive. >> feels like i got shot in the head. i'm glad to be alive. i'm glad to be home. i spoke to the president. the director of the f.b.i. everybody is concerned. it is overwhelming to me. investigators are looking into rahami's travel to the middle east to see if he received money or training from terror groups. >> nancy: now turning to our forecast. looks like a sunny end to summer. temperatures set to hit the 80's today. today is, of course, the last full day of summer, chris. fall is just around the corner now. >> chris: yes. we can keep the summer going for a couple more days after this, nancy. 81 right now in boston. 82 in plymouth. 79 in bedford.

40's and 50's. for the most part. still a little bit on the muggy side. overall, gorgeous day. very comfortable out there. and just some thin clouds to try to filter out the sun at times. this afternoon, may not get... may knock it back a few degrees once the sea breeze kicks in. no sea breeze, close to 84 this afternoon. a warm afternoon up and down the area. well above the average. the average high this time of year, running into the lower 70's. even acrosshe high-level clouds. temperatures running into the 70's. warmth continues for one more day or two more days, i should say. a big cooldown over the weekend. more ahead. >> sarah: a black bear spotted wandering nearby at a local high school. >> nancy: students are on alert. byron barnett is live in acton with more. byron? >> reporter: yeah. a bit of excitement here in acton this morning. the environmental police believe that the bear has

far away from the police department from where we are right now. we have a picture of the bear. you can see it looks like a fairly small bear. black bear. this picture was taken by a woman who was driving by on route 27. she saw this bear crossing the road. the woman took a picture. now, the bear continued moving on. and it was actually seen on school property. the police notified all the near the high school, all the schools were told to get the kids inside and they have pretty much been that way ever since while this bear kept wandering around. we have sky 7 vild owe. as you can see, the environmental police. they were called in. they are just sort of fooling the bear. literally, one of them said she were shooing the bear along, sort of trying to move it along to a wooded area outside of town.

now, we talked to one police officer here who tells us that every couple of years, a bear does come through town. >> early this morning, i don't know what time, around 8:45. on hayward road, we got a call from a resident. explaining that they had seen a bear cross the road. running across the road. they were alerting us to its whereabouts. yeah. it has been seen in the general area of police department. near route 2. and route 27. it has crossed many streets. in some areas, there are shopping areas where people are out and about. >> reporter: once again, the environmental police tell us that they believe the bear has moved on. this is a wildlifer management area. this is next to acton here. they think it is a good chance that that is where the bear may be. they say the bear will be safe there. generally, again, this happens every couple of years here in acton.

where anyone has been hurt. they generally tell people to stay away from the bear. kind of use your common sense. they say it is a good thing to make sure you don't leave food out in the yard. like bird-feeders and things like. that those attract the bears. i'm byron barnett, 7 news. >> sarah: more news today: a boston man wanted for rape caught upskirting at an m.b.t.a. station. officers arrested the 51-year-old james colors after a female passenger on the "t" accused him of videin her skirt. it was later discovered he was also wanted for rape and two counts of indecent assault and battery. colors is expected to be arraigned today in cambridge district court. >> nancy: also on 7: a toddler rushed to the hospital after he was hit by a car in brockton. and now that boy's grandfather is talking about his condition. nicole oliverio is live in brockton with more. >> reporter: that grandfather tell us that little

they don't know how he is doing. he did suffer life-threatening injuries. all of this happening just feet from his home. you see the markings on the street where the car tried to swerve but hit that little boy. it happened in an instant. police say the two-year-old ran away from his mother and darted into the street. seconds later, he was hit by a car. just feet from the front door of his brockton home. >> the boy's grandfather tells us he survived the night at mass. genal the little boy has brain swelling and isn't sure if his condition is improving. >> so-so. yeah. i don't know. >> reporter: the driver of the toyota that allegedly hit the boy told investigators he slammed on his brakes and tried swerving. right now, that driver isn't facing any charges. the mother told officers she was walking with her son on market street when he took off. she chased after him but it

paramedics rush him to the hospital. >> i went over there and saw the ambulance. i saw him moving. i don't know if they was moving him or not. i was so shaky. >> reporter: his family by his side at mgh. and a neighborhood prag that the toddler recovers. state police are now handling the accident reconstruction. but investigators say they believe this to be nothing more than a horrible accident. we know the little boy his mother farx they are, and grandfather at the hospital. we are live from brockton, nicole oliverio, 7 news. >> sarah: a violent night in boston. police are investigating three shootings. a man was shot and killed in dorchester. this happened on downer avenue just after 8:00 last night. the victim was taken to boston medical center but he later died. so far, no arrests have been made. officers are also looking into reports of shots being fired

tuesday night in several cars. according to e.m.s., no one in the area appears to have been injured. and a man who was shot in a separate incident in roxbury is expected to survive. police say the man was shot in the leg on dudley street just before 9:00 last night. the victim was rushed to boston medical center and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. investigators have not said if they have identified a suspect in the shooting. >> nancy: the family of a new hampshire woman who was raped and murdered now court to try to reverse an order to unseal records of the victim's past sexual history. the controversial order comes as her murderer appeals his conviction. advocates say the court order is in direct opposition of the rape shield law to protect a victim's privacy. >> sarah: the election just 48 days away. after taking a day off to prepare for next week's debate, hillary clinton is heading to florida to lay out her

donald trump will be in ohio with running mate mike pence. a day after attacking clinton as the ultimate insider and friend of the rich. this comes after trump's campaign was criticized for defending donald trump, jr.'s tweet comparing syrian refugees to a bowl of skittles. as election day gets closer, massachusetts officials want to remind selfie-takers, you are not allowed to take a picture of your completed ballot. even if it is your own. if you are voting in new hampshire,he banning the publishing of a completed ballot punishable by a fine. >> nancy: coming up, cleared of charges. why investigators say the off-duty officer in this video did nothing wrong. >> sarah: a 911 call from across the pond. why one woman from the u.k. reported a car crash to barnstable police. >> chris: sunshine. summer-like feel to the air this afternoon. temperatures into the 80's.

every time a new charter school opens in massachusetts, it takes funding away from regular public schools in that area. this year alone, charter schools will take more than 400 million dollars away from neighborhood public schools. instead of draining even more money from neighborhood public schools and giving it to charters, let's devote public resources to all of our students... not just a select few. don't lift the cap on charter schools.

>> nancy: we are following breaking news at noon. the f.b.i. is now looking for two people of interest in the new york and new jersey bombings. you see those two men right there. detectives say the two men in this photo took a suitcase that was left on a manhattan sidewalk on saturday. the f.b.i. says they want to talk to these two men and recover that suitcase. anyone with information is urged to call police and authorities are giving an now. let's listen in. >> what's in there, it has to be identified. it could be a rich environment to pull other things from. we don't know. we don't know exactly what they did. we need to speak to these individuals. >> chris: 12:25 on this wednesday afternoon. beautiful summer-like weather continuing. into late september. 81 in boston. the wind is out of the northwest. we kept the warmth around. but we lost the humidity. dew points down in the 40's and 50's right now. it is warm all the way to the cape cod canal. even across the canal. down across the mid-cape there, temperatures in the mid-70's at this time. northwesterly wind. 12 miles an hour. just strong enough so far to hold back the sea breeze in boston. if we get a sea breeze along the coastline and temperature kick-back, they will fall back in the mid-70's this afternoon. all in all, gorgeous-looking

we continue to see summer-like weather for the next couple of days. despite, you know, turning the page here and flipping to fall tomorrow. equinox, by the way, 10:21 tomorrow in the morning. take a look south of us. plenty of rain. some locations, six to ten inches of rain across virginia down into north carolina. those locations continue to get rain today. for us, the dry air is intruding from the north. that will continue its theme here over the next couple of days. we keep the warm air around. no question about that. today and again tomorrow. in fact, mid-80's tomorrow. even on friday, it is warm. s if although late in the day, we could have a passing shower or thunderstorm. this front that drops on through, likely creating some scattered showers at night. then on the other side of the front, that is when we see the big changes for the weekend. so there it is. the autumnal equinox. 10:21 tomorrow. flipping the page to fall. it still feels like summer outside. temperatures running similar to what they are today. that will get a lot of us into the lower to middle 8's. comfortable overnight tonight.

>> sarah:woods casino reopens after police gunned down a suspect there. police were trying to arrest a man in a parking garage when he pulled out a gun. investigators say officers then shot the suspect, causing him to fall several floors to his death. the incident leaving many in the area on edge. >> there was a lot of hotel staff that were, you know, activated: a lot of security. we were just waiting. >> we didn' somebody right outside the building shooting into the glass. we kind of stayed away from the windows and stuff. >> sarah: no other injuries were reported. state police say that suspect had an outstanding arrest warrant. they are still investigating what led to the shooting. >> nancy: boston police officers cracking down on drag-racing. during this three-day

citations and 5 criminal complaint applications. >> the m.b.t.a. is looking at removing potentially hazardous tree branches along the green line. according to the "globe," officials are going along the d branch today looking for any limbs that may be in danger. of falling on to the tracks. they will then contact home owners to ask them if the "t" would be allowed to cut down the branches. >> a texas man under fire for the way he disciplined his the customer who took the picture says she tried to stop. this man told her to mind her own business. >> while he was dragging her, though, she was saying please stop. you are hurting me. it is hurting. i promise i won't do it again. please stop, please stop. people are saying i embarrassed this man. that little girl was embarrassed when she was being dragged by the hair of her head in wal-mart. >> witnesses called 9 11. police are now investigating.

plane to crash in northern california. the plane crashed during a training mission tuesday morning. both pilots ejected from the plane before it crashed. one pilot is dead. another injured. pete spears was in the plane flying a crop-duster and watched the crash from the sky. >> i looked down. then i saw the wings of a plane. i just thought that is a u-2. i knew exactly what it was. s is recovering in the hospital at the time. the cause of the crash is still under investigation. a massive tire slams into a home in vermont. police say it caught fire and flew off of a farm truck and crashed into a living room window. you can see the damage to the home. nos one, thankfully, was home at the time. the truck driver has not been cited. >> nancy: the mayor will withdraw a city's backing for the bid to host the 2024

the administration had expressed doubts about staging the sporting spectacular, saying the heavily indebted city could ill-afford the investment needed. boston withdrew its bid last year for the olympics. the mayor will hold a news conference later on today. >> sarah: driverless cars gaining popularity on the road. the safety of these vehicles still a top concern. now the federal government is stepping in with new rules to keep the roads safe. the rules of the road are changing. just months aftera man dipd at the tesla model sedan on autopilot. now federal regulators are rolling out guidelines for driverless cars. >> the policy is about establishing safety as a cornerstone of autonomous vehicles from the outset. >> the transportation department recommending a 15-point compliance plan, requiring car-makers to report on a range of issues. including data-sharing, cyber-security, and how passengers will be protected in the event of a crash. plus, federal authorities may

driverless cars for safety inspections before they hit the market. in an op-ed monday in the pittsburgh gazette, president obama said in a self-driving car isn't safe, we have the authority to pull it off the road. until now, autonomous vehicle rules have been set state by state. >> we have to crawl, walk, and then run when it comes to autonomous vehicles. it can't be the wild weather out there. >> the self-drive cog lition for safer streets which includes uber saying they are onboard with the guidelines. no matter who or what is behind the wheel. and boston could be getting its own self-driving cars. mayor marty walsh announced last week that he is launching a program to explore the safety of these cars in the city. still ahead, something comical created in this cornfield. how one farm is paying tribute

>> sarah: this is the 20th year of the festival. it includes hayrides, zip lines, and of course, a pumpkin patch. looking at that from bo above, knowing they leave it up to chance, that is crazy. it is so precise. i love this time of year. because of the apple-picking. i go apple-picking for the cider doughnuts. you can get apples anywhere. you can't get homemade cider doughnuts every everywhere, chris. >> chris: i'm with you on that one. they are hots. they are the best. here i am trying to get the lines in my lawn straight. these guys are doing perfect artwork in corn fields.

anything. the drought index, the drought monitor across much of eastern massachusetts up through southeastern new hampshire on the extreme side. we have been talking about this. brown was the theme this summer. right? boston rainfall, not only this year but going back last year, in totality the last couple of years, running close to 18 inches below average. if you want to back that up, you know, 2012 through 2016, the last four and what half 28 inches below average. a few years before that, between 2008 and 2011, you add up those four years. we were running about 25 inches. it comes in waves here. a few years a a time. it has been dry the last couple of years. certainly, putting a stress on the farmland, the crops as well as the trees. 81 outside in boston right now. 79 in bedford. 74 in hyannis. look at the dew points. what a change from yesterday. in the 60's to near 70

lower to middle 50's. for the most part. still a smidge of humidity down through buzzards bay, the cape and the islands. rain to the south of us. back into the mid-atlantic. this will stay to the south of us. what else is new, right? kind of the ongoing theme here. we will stay warm today. and even again tomorrow. even on friday, we have to wait for the cold front to arrive. sometime late friday or friday night. as that crosses, it l produces some scattered showers. a rumble of thunder maybe. we could have one or two of them leftover on saturday morning. then it is drying out and cooling off big-time. this is a huge pattern change for a few days at least. going into the weekend and early next week. as we struggle to get out of the 60's for highs. and widespread 40's for overnight lows. 78-84 this afternoon. localized sea breeze is a possibility. for some towns. especially down through the south shore. comfortable. clear tonight. cooling.
