>> sarah: we begin with breaking news at noon. tragedy in westport. head-on crash. investigators say one of the vehicles crossed over a median, slamming into another car. >> christa: that collision closed parts of 95 this morning. let's go to 7's dan hausle with more for us. dan? >> reporter: well, this is a bit of a bizarre crash on a busy 195 near fall river. actually, in westport behind me. this accident happened on this side of the highway. but the other car crossing that grassy median to hit another car coming at them head-on.

were killed. there were two people in the car that was coming across the median. that car described as a livery car. one man would be the driver, possibly the second would be a paying passenger. that car somehow crossed 40 feet of grassy median and hit head-on, a car in the passing lane coming the other way. state police say one person was in that car and was killed. state police have yet to release the names of anyone involved killein state police also not explaining how to accident happened. but according to a witness who talked to one of our affiliates, this person was driving behind the car that he said was driving erratically, and at one point, it actually went off the road on to that median, across the median, struck one car coming the other way and was turned straight into the vehicle that it hit head-on. the reasons on why that car was driving erratically, enough to come across this

state police have not released the names of the victims or further explanation of the crash. that is something we may get as the day goes on. we hope to let you hear from the witness of the crash. dan hausle, 7 news. >> christa: a man has died after a serious crash in east boston. police say he crashed into a pole on route-a at logan airport around 1:30 this morning. the man was rushed to the hospital with severe injuries but did not survive. the cause of the crash is now unde i >> christa: a former priest called to court today. michael walsh who also served as an altar boy coordinator in dorchester is facing rape and assault charges. nicole oliverio with more on the case. she is in boston today. >> reporter: well, christa, this man was a priest in michigan. but only for a few months before allegations were brought against him back in 2002. now most recently, a victim has come forward just as recently as this summer to say that he was raped by this

80-year-old michael walsh leans on his cane and listens to charges that he raped a child back in the late 80's, early 90's, when he served as an altar boy coordinator for st. brendan's school in dorchester. >> the defendant was frequently seen with children out in the neighborhoods. he was away on weekend trips... >> reporter: the victim, now 38 years old, just came forward and reported the abuse to law en limitations hasn't expired because walsh lived out of state for more than a decade which puts the statute on hold. prosecutors say walsh repeatedly raped the victim who was in grade school at the time. >> the sexual abuse occurred in several divent areas.

>> reporter: walsh had been love living in florida and michigan. it was there he became a priest in 2002. he was relieved of his duties months later, when allegations were brought against him. the archdiocese never revealed what those allegations were. in court today, defense lawyers say walsh will stay here and face these charges but warned he is in poor health. >> mr. walsh is going to be 80 years old at the end of the month. he has significant medical hardships. he is 100% dabld. ... disabled. >> reporter: now, walsh was released without any bail. he does have to be on a gps monitoring bracelet. we reached out to the boston archdiocese. we haven't heard back. we have questions about the 2002 allegations. what, if anything, was done with them and if there could possibly be any more victims. nicole oliverio, 7 news. >> reporter: a missing boater found at sea returns back home. the man was rescued from a life raft off the coast of

tim caputo has more. >> reporter: after a week alone floating on a life raft in the atlantic, 22-year-old nathan carman is back home in vermont font. >> i feel healthy. emotionally, i have been through a huge amount. and my request is just to be allowed to mourn naturally. >> reporter: carman and his 54-year-old mother linda left rhode island on a deep-sea fishing trip back on september 18. they didn't come home that night as planned. >> in the engine compartment. i looked and saw a lot of water. >> reporter: the coast guard released audio of a feen call nathan made after he was rescued by a chinese freighter as he explained what happened later that day. >> i got to the life raft after i got my bearings. forecast i was looking around. i didn't see her. >> reporter: his mother hasn't been found even though the

>> i would like to thank the public for their prayers and for their concern for both my mother and for myself. i would like to thank the crew of the ship that rescued me. both for rescuing me and for treating me very well. >> reporter: on monday night, police searched nathan carman's vermont home. police took a modem with cable, a gps similar card and a letter written by nathan, all possible evidence that could reveal nathan's destination for the fishing trip police also seemed to focus on a maintenance and upkeep of nathan's 31-foot aluminum boat. tonight, the 22-year-old's father offered very little about their conversations on the long ride home. >> it is tough on him right now. i would rather not say anything more at this point. between the two of us, it has been a very rough day. investigators are trying to figure out exactly what happened on the boat. there is another case adding more mystery to this

see temperatures in the mid to upper 50's. wind gusts at times, again, 20-30 miles an hour. close to that in plymouth right now. 20-mile-per-hour gust in norwood and 18 in beverly. flying under the radar has been some patches of mist and some patches of drizzle. we are not expecting a whole lot of rain here over the next couple of days. basically, a cloud-producer. the most significant rain staying south of us. in fact, many towns pick up a tenth of an inch or less of water over the next 24-36 across the area. they are going to get soaked down through the mid-atlantic, though. this is where flash flooding will likely take place. and portions of central pennsylvania working down toward the d.c. and baltimore area into northern virginia. this area of low pressure not moving all that much.

a strong northeast wind coming toward that high. this will retreated a diminish as it moves off to the northeast. then you allow more of the moisture to get into southern new england. then the opportunity for sustained showers with some more appreciable amounts of water rolling. in that is not going to happen until we get into friday afternoon and into the weekend. tropical storm matthew, he is the latest tropical storm on the board. formed just after 10:00 this morning. winds at 60 miles an hour. hurricane in the caribbean by the weekend. and then strengthen as it takes that northerly turn toward jamaica, and perhaps over to cuba as we head into early next week. something we will continue to keep an eye on. meantime, those water temperatures down that way, very warm. you get into the caribbean. we are running 84-86 degrees. breezy and cool today. patchy drizzle around. 56-62. there is the 7-day forecast. heading into the weekend. yeah. temperatures stuck close to

>> sarah: now we are hearing from a person who witnessed the crash. dan hausle has breaking details. >> reporter: well, this is something of a by crash on 195 near fall river. a fast-moving and busy road, as you can see behind me. the accident happening when a car crossed the median. the grass about 40-50 feet wide and ran head-on into a car coming the other way. state police say that the car was traveling westbound... traveling westbound on i-95 en for some reason and smashed head-on into a vehicle coming the other way. they say the vehicle that crossed the median had two people in it. a livery vehicle, one person in the other car. all of them killed. state police have yet to release the names of those killed in this accident. the question is why did this car come across the median? well, we talked to a man who was right behind the car. he said it was driving erratically for a time before it went into the grass.
