worcester police racing out to this home after a man says he killed his nephew. >> i heard, like, a little kid just crying and, you know, screaming and crying. . >> four obviously undercover cars, plain cars down lincoln 80 miles an hour. >> reporter: inside the lincoln village town home, police found the three-year-old boy. he had injuries to his face and neck. he was alive and he was alert. the 21-year-old uncle them in. >>. >> i can't imagine what he has gone through. he must have been so scared. >> the uncle was arrested, accused of attempted murder, indecent assault and he is accused of strangling the child. he told police he was watching his nephew while the boy's dad was at work. investigators took pictures and removed evidence from the home. neighbors left hoping the child is going to be okay. >> it's just really sad. you wonder what would make

>> reporter: at the hospital, the three-year-old boy is stable. his injuries are considered non-life-threatening. the department of children and families is also investigating this. again, the uncle set for arraignment at some point this afternoon. live in worcester, victoria warren, 7 news. >> christa: overnight, police in middletown, connecticut search the home of nathan carman's mother. linda carman is the woman presumed to be dead after being lost at sea for two weeks now. last night, detectives wer hour and we are told they took several items from the home. what exactly was taken is still unclear. right now, law enforcement agencies in four different states are trying to figure out what happened during that fishing trip that carman took with her son. nathan carman was found in a life raft sunday night, reunited with his father on tuesday. the discovery is also reopening some questions about the death of carman's grandfather who was murdered back in 2013. there are reports that linda carman was a person of

nathan was also considered a person of interest in the case as well. he has never been charged with the crime. and he denies any involvement. >> sarah: the latend oohest on the deadly train crash in new jersey. fbs investigators say they will spend the next week trying to piece together exactly what went wrong. all the damage at the station is making things more complicated. john cuoco has the latest. >> reporter: in just minutes, the thursday morning rush unraveled. >> i have heavy structural damage. train. major, major casualties. >> reporter: train 1614, on the new jersey transit line sped into the hoboken station, slamming into, then over the bumpers at the end of the track. >> it was just... it was horrific. an explosion of concrete dust, electrical wires. >> reporter: the canopy above the terminal collapsed, falling to the ground, along with steel beams, bricks, and shattered glass. a 34-year-old was standing on

the hoboken resident and mom was killed by falling debris. >> we just heard people screaming in the first car. they were trapped. they couldn't get out. >> reporter: more than one hundred on and off the train were injured. including the engineer who is said to be cooperating with the national transportation safety board investigation into the crash. witnesses say the train never seemed to slow down. n.t.s.b. agents hope to get the key data from the crash from the train's black box. >> the only place we have been able to access is the rear, where we were able to get the recorder. >> reporter: investigators have access to the locomotive to. this point, structural damage to the station has kept them out of the rest of the train. investigators hope to have access to the other cars later today. the n.t.s.b. expects to be here on scene for the next week to ten days. in hoboken, new jersey, john cuoco, 7 news. >> christa: "t" officials are taking new steps to fix things around the so-called money room.

surfaced from a surveillance camera showing a worker in the money room lying face-down while cash is scattered on a nearby table. the incident was never investigated. the worker never identified. but the m.b.t.a. is releasing a statement this morning. here is what it says. the m.b.t.a. has made significant progress in improving the management and productivity of the money room. since this troubling image emerged in february. there is no logical reason for a transit system to be in the cash-handling business. that is why the m.b.t.a. is eager to enter into a contract nast can perform this function more efficiently. police in braintree searching for suspects after a violent night at the movies. officials say two men were stabbed in the amc braintree movie theater parking lot. this was just after 7:00 last night. the victims, both 36 years old, from hingham. they were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. >> sarah: hurricane matthew has been strengthened to a category three. we are quiching an eye on where it is heading next.

lambert with more on the forecast. >> chris: certainly has strengthened quite a bit here. down in the caribbean. the west to southwesterly motion at 12 miles an hour. expected to take that right turn, though. and go due north. this is jamaica right here. and this is haiti. this is cuba. high-impact for those islands. and perhaps even into the bahamas by wednesday. that much, we are confident in. in terms of the next few days ahead of us. the question is mid to late week next week, where does the track hit? the eastern united states or does it curve back out to sea in this ethe pends on the interaction with the trough coming out. too early to say, for sure. you can see a lot of models focused, coming through the bahamas. they start to make their way up the east coast again. whether it turns abruptly or not, we will wait and see for late next week. anyway, we have some rain to deal with over the weekend.

the mass. pike by noon, 1:00. a couple hours after. that okay, let's call it maybe k or so. i do expect for the evening commute, to have more widespread wet weather across the area. the exception, that may be far northern massachusetts, up into southern new hampshire. it remains mainly dry. regardless, the rain isp coing overnight tonight into tomorrow morning. a good deal of showers coming in. some showers may be locally heavy. quite a bit of moisture working in with the atmosphere. all the talk in the trot ins focused on matthew. this will slow down and all of a sudden, take this northward turn. taking a 90-degree turn here. across jamaica or close to it. over eastern cuba here. high impact for these islands here. a major hurricane will likely make landfall and then going into the bahamas after that. this is your five-day forecast. from the national hurricane center.

four or five days down the line. thereafter, it works its way close to the east coast. 55-61 today. cool and breezy. once the showers arrive. the temperatures fade back a couple of degrees. yeah. 51-55 overnight tonight. showers locally heavy. areas of fog as well. breezy. that breeze continues tomorrow. with rain a little more consistent in the morning. versus the afternoon. again, we may taper offer to some drizzle later on in the day. there is the 7 on 7 forecast. i don't think we will have a lot of rain in terms of heavy showers on sunday. could have some patches of drizzle around in the morning through midday. some dry breaks in the afternoon, a possibility. it will be a cool one out there. if you are joining 7 news for the making strides against breast cancer walk on sunday morning in boston, plan on damp weather with temperatures running mid to upper 50's.

so no witnesses saw the attack. a couple recovering after they were hit by a tow truck in newton center. this happened on beacon street last night. police say the man and woman were in the crosswalk when the truck hit them. the driver stayed on the scene. there is no word yet on the conditions of the victims. >> christa: four day care locations had to get shut down. terry's little pumpkins lok located in medford, chelsea, reve a down. after losing their license when state investigators found that the day care violated several state regulations. according to court documents, state investigators say there was insufficient food and drink for the children. dead mice were found behind a refrigerator. staff members nodding off while taking care of children. a day care worker also allegedly left a child unattended in a transportation van. parents say they are shocked about it. >> are you surprised it is closing? >> yeah. i'm surprised.

these numbers not moving much as we go throughout the day. perhaps even fading back a couple of degrees. once the run starts on in. you can see a lot of that shower activity here down through southern connecticut, the coastline of rhode island. a few showers across the cape and the islands. nothing tremendously heavy at this point. this whole band of slowly edging its way northbound. it will take some time here. maybe north of the mass. pike. you don't see much until after 3:00 this afternoon. as these showers gradually to 3:00. south of the mass. pike. from south to north. by the evening commute, a lot of us seeing some showers around. doesn't mean it is going to be intense the whole evening. through the overnight hours. at times, a few showers could put down quite a bit of water all at once. we will get some appreciable rain out of it. a half an inch to an inch. localized areas may see more than that. especially the south coast of new england. and by saturday afternoon, this may, indeed, taper off to

if you are going out over the weekend, you know, trying to figure out, hey, apple-picking, saturday, sunday. sunday afternoon, off better shot of getting some dry periods in there. as sunday, we don't see as much rain. still starting off the day with low-level moisture. some patches of drills. maybe a spot shower. overall, thinking saturday is the wetter of the two weekend days. spot shower still around on monday and tuesday. we will catch our dry hours in there. brightening the skies here by wednesday and thursday. >> christa: a world war ii veteran is he jups received his high school diploma. >> sarah: now he is talking about why the degree means so much to him. 91-year-old charles was on the u.s.s. gillette the year he was supposed to graduate from merryville high school. he spent his senior year serving our country instead of walking across the stage. but tailed he can now call himself a high school graduate. >> we are here to honor. world war ii veterans.

starting sunday night. that is when the jewish new year, rosh rork,... rosh hashanah, begins. they are getting ready. >> rosh hashanah literally translates to the head of the year. >> sarah: they will be welcoming year 5,7777. each year, the foods are always sweet and abundant. like chala, a holiday bread. round challah. the cycle of life, the circle of the year. >> sarah: so let's get cooking. >> we put in two teaspoons of yeast. a cup of warm water. >> sarah: let it sit for 15 minutes. then add honey, vegetable oil, and egg and kosher salt. >> give that a quick mix. we can start with our flour.
