>> sarah: we are tracking hurricane matthew. the deadly storm is heading matthew is currently a category three hurricane with winds of 120 miles per hour. cuba and haiti saw powerful winds and flooding. forcing thousands of people to take cover. we are seeing new images of the storm. here is the satellite photo from space. right now, people are evacuating in florida and south carolina as they brace for the worst. >> christa: for the latest on the track and this possible east coast landfall, we turn

dangerously close to east florida. canaveral. came out of the caribbean, over cuba. notice how the ragged look is getting more symmetric. you are watching the thunderstorm activity around the center of storm develop more. it is losing any influence of land. and it is not a good sign for folks in the bahamas and across the east coast of florida. this will likely pick up strength. you are already seeing it beginning to do so. winds up to 120 miles an hour. center's forecast. if it does regain category four strength. by the time we get into thursday night and early friday morning. passing very close to the florida coast right here. again, over that eye comes over this land here. this coastline. that is going to cause big problems for florida. if it does track a hundred miles offshore, it is a much better situation. i don't think we will get much impact here in new england. look at the track sunday into monday. this is suppressed well south

showers pulled in here to start the weekend, it does look like we have a quiet weekend ahead of us. more on the forecast ahead. >> christa: hurricane matthew on a deadly path. this is the strongest storm in nearly a decade on the atlantic ocean. while the exact track is still unclear, many people in florida and the carolinas are making sure they are prepared for it. let's go to nancy chen with a closer look at. that >> nancy: hurricane matthew was down-graded overnight to a category three. today after battering haiti and cuba with torrential rain. now the united states prepares for impact. dubbed by the u.n. as the worst humanitarian crisis to hit haiti since a devastating 2010 earthquake, hurricane matthew whipped cuba and haiti with 140-mile-per-hour winds on tuesday. pummels towns, farmland, and resorts. at least 11 deaths have been blamed on the powerful storms so favr. as it makes its way across the

because of extremely difficult travel conditions. a key bridge washed away, cutting off villages from much-needed aid as well as communications. meantime, here in the united states, people in florida and south carolina are bracing for impact. there were long lines at gas stations on tuesday. as mandatory evacuations began today in the miami area. the governor urging residents to prepare for a direct hit. and to have three days' of food and water stock-piled. ls guard members. >> many coastal counties are preparing to open shelters today. these are shelters for special needs. for pets and for general population. there are shelters for everyone. there is absolutely no excuse not to evacuate. >> nancy: the governor says that because the storm is slowing, by the time it hits north carolina, it will not be necessary to evacuate some one

behind a wild shoot-out appearing in court this afternoon. tracking down the men took hours and now they are both facing serious charges. jennifer eagan has more. >> reporter: police going door to door in roslindale. >> as you can see, you know, it was a long thorough search. >> reporter: k-9 units and helicopters covering the area. tactical units and officers blocking the street. they were looking for this man, a 25-year-old eric gonzalez. he was arrested after hours of searching. on custody earlier in the evening. it began just before 5:00 on tuesday. undercover boston and state police were conducting a joint investigation at a home on newburgh street. >> they encountered the suspect. the suspect opened fire on the officers. report tt chaos spilled outside and on to the street with police and the suspects firing back and forth. >> all of a sudden, it was a frightening situation.

>> chris: all right. hurricane matthew now beginning its journey into the bahamas here. you can see the convection around the center. the eye of the storm. has regained itself. and there is not much to stop it here. because any of the islands, any interaction with that is too sparse to really deflect any of the intensity that is going to be ongoing here. hurricane warnings in place through the bahamas. now into florida. this does include much of the eastern coast of florida. even across north florida. the hurricane watch is posted. essentially, close to miami, jrt just north of miami. pulling north. most concerned from west palm beach north through the space

hurricane. if it gets even very close if not moving over the east coast of florida. water temperatures running to mid-80's. you are talking about some of the warmest waters, you know, that there is to offer. down across either atlantic, the caribbean or gulf of mexico. so there is plenty for this to feed off of and upper-level winds are favorable for development. that is why you are already seeing this begin to cluster around some more thunderstorms around the eye. there is likely going to be a category four hurricane very close to if not just on-shore you notice that hook. once you get late into the period. the reason why we are watching that and the potential hook you see off the carolina coastline is because this front and the trofer with it, it is a little flatter. meaning it is more like west to east. it is not reaching down and pulling this hurricane up. in fact, once the front slips through and the high builds over, it is likely that the hurricane itself gets pinned offer the carolina coastline. for several days down here. as high pressure protects us

now, there is an opportunity of some rain working in as the fronts crosses through. some of the moisture gets pulled north. that opportunity would be late saturday into saturday night. it's highly likely at this point. that the brunt of that storm, though, in terms of the core of its winds, the powerful winds will stay well south of new england. 59 right now in boston. how about the last couple of days with the sunshine returning? it has been nice. now you have more clouds down across the cape and the islands. into southeastern massachusetts. most of the sunshine, close to boston n a next couple of days. we are some gorgeous weather ahead of us on thursday and into friday. with highs into the 70's. for more on the forecast, over the danielle. doip thanks, chris. aside from matthew, keeping an eye on tropical storm nicole. obviously, not as strong a storm with winds of 50 miles per hour. moving west, northwest at eight miles per hour. it will take a turn over the next couple of days. and stay south of bermuda there. and this is our 14th named storm of the hurricane season.

>> christa: hurricane matthew ruining a vacation for 600 passengers onboard a carnival cruise. the ship left from baltimore sunday destined for turks and caicos. because of the storm, they ended up in new york city. from new york, carnival planned an alternate trip north tot canada. that had to be canceled as well. the ship is sailing home tomorrow. frustrating passengers. they want to get home sooner. they also want a refund at this point. you know? >> sarah: yeah. you set out on a cruise. sorry. matthew is on the way. >> chris: frustrating. getting held up there in new york. the trip to canada now cancel as well. here is matthew. a little bit to the west here of the turks and caicos. this is going to continue to motion off to the northwest here. and this is going to get very close to nassau and the bahamas. and eventually, dangerously close to the east coast of florida. so you may notice a lot of trips planned to the east coast of florida. they have been postponed or

expecting a category four hurricane. very close. now, the hurricane-force winds extend 45 miles away from the center of circulation here. the most powerful winds right in that core, within 45 miles either side of the hurricane itself. but it doesn't take much to move a little bit to the west. all of a sudden, that eye is over land. they are really paying attention to this, essentially, from west palm beach all the way out through the space coast. close to jac notice what the models are doing. down the line in the forecast period. instead of making its way up the coast, slides off to the east. some of them actually, pushing these back to the south. the reason for that, is high pressure building in. there is no connection with the front to pull it up the east coast. the area of high pressure likely will protect us over the weekend. at least the second half of the weekend. now, as the front comes on through, some of the moisture could get pulled up into new england. there is some rain that is a possibility.

saturday night. again, a possibility at this point. likely seeing high surf rip currents on the south coast. in terms of the hurricane itself with the powerful winds and greater coastal concerns, that will stay well south of new england. as we go through the holiday weekend. temperatures right now, upper 50's. lower 6's. a good deal of sunshine for most of us. not all of us. the wind is on-shore. that keeps us cool on the coastline through the afternoon. most of the clouds have been across the cape and across plymouth countsy so far today. that w high pressure building in. this will allow for beautiful weather thursday and friday. temperatures take a run at 70-plus both days. some mid-70's away from the coast out there. for more on the forecast, over to danielle. >> danielle: thanks, chris. we are also watching tropical storm nicole. northeast of matthew. not as big a storm. but it is packing winds of 50 miles per hour. it is moving west, northwest at eight miles per hour. it is expected to stay a tropical storm.

show-stopper. janet jackson's web site says refunds are available. the official sellers of tickets for this concert, ticket-master and the td garden box office are give regular funds. but kathy, paula and lisa bought from on-line third-party resellers. which buy and resell people's tickets. when they all asked for refunds, they were told no way. all three web sites had the same bottom line and their... in their terms and conditions. no refunds for postponed events. si completely canceled, they were out of luck. >> very frustrating. >> very disappointing to get the answers that we got. >> reporter: we contacted all the three reseller sites and said come on. it sure seems unfair to be stuck with tickets to a concert that's indefinitely postponed. and soon after, kathy and paula were given refunds. and lisa's seller is looking into it. now state officials are, too.
