jairm me reiner is here with a latest on the storm's track. >> moving west-northwest up toward the bahamas and it will be a rough go later on tonight and through the day tomorrow for the bahamas. category 3 storm. winds at 120 miles per hour. so likely to move over the bahamas, nassau particular, freeport, as a major hurricane, a category 3 hurricane. the number here indicating the category strength. anything higher than a 3 -- 3 or higher, i should say, is considered a major hurricane. you notice the number actually

peninsula. early in the day on friday, in fact, it's been 10 years since florida has seen a major hurricane. category 3, make landfall in the state, wilma back in 2005, over 10 years, i should say. so this might be something that makes landfall. again, some of the models are indicating that it may try to make landfall near vera beach or titusville sometime on friday, and in any event, even if it doesn't make landfall on friday, it's gonna be a rough day, basically right up and down 95 in fda daytona beach and st. augustine in jacksonville. on the other side tampa as well as fort myers, not anticipating significant weather conditions on that side of the state. so to be basically along and east of interstate 95. from there it parallels the georgia coastline as well as the south carolina coastline and loops back to the south. more of a threat for south carolina as opposed to north carolina, and no threat to new england, back to you guys.

copayment. >> reporter: in a statement to 7news, a spokesperson for the university says, quote, harvard deeply values the contributions of its dining service employees as evidenced by the fact that they've received some of the most generous hourly wages and benefits for food service workers in the region. we have proposed creative solutions to issues presented by the union and hope union representatives will contribute to find creative workable solutions at the negotiation table. they have been unwilling to do so. >> you see hundreds of people still protesting this noon, holding signs, they say they'll be out here picketing. until they are back at the negotiating tail. keli o'hara , a 7news. two motorcycle riders rushed to the hospital after a crash in quincy. the crash happened late last night on liberty street. the rider suffered serious injuries. police are still investigating what caused that crash. we're following more news today. new dash-cam video is released in the trial of a man accused of leaving his 22-month-old son in

police found the empty atm the next day in a drainage ditch. they're hoping the video will help them find the people responsible. and a 9-year-old michigan boy says he was attacked by a knife-wielding clown. justin belter says he was climbing a tree outside of his home in sterling heights when he got down and the clown was standing there. justin says the clough unhad a knife and cut him before running away. police are investigating and justin's mother is standing by her son. >> i was like a lot >> what if you would have had a knife to his throat or something, he could have killed my kid, you know. apparently this ain't the only clown that was in the park today. >> police did say there was a second report involving a clown in the same area. >> 7news turning to an alarming new report, tech giant yahoo accused of secretly spying on millions mails and then handed over the information to the federal government. it's reignited concerns over cyber privacy.

>> reporter: according to a report from the reuters news agency, yahoo's ceo, marissa mare, decided to obey rather than to fight a u.s. government direct tifer, to have its own -- directive, to have its own computer scan all incoming email messages last year looking for a specific term that had intelligence agencies on the lookout. the company says just this, yahoo is a law abiding company and complies with the laws of the united states. ceo mare said at a tech yahoo does fight some government demands. >> they request it, rereview it, we scrutinize it, we push back on a lot. >> privacy matters. >> reporter: three years ago edward snowden's leaks revealed that the national security agency tapped into email traffic, so its computers could search for specific terms to stop and investigate potential terrorists. but last year yahoo began encrypting itself e-mails making it impossible for the fo. to scan them. reuters say yahoo itself was

northwest through the bahamas and very close to the florida coastline. this is the brand-new track, the 5:00 update which is a little bit closer now to east coast of florida. perhaps make landfall right around cape canaveral. daytona beach, sometime on midday friday, friday afternoon. and then from there, it does begin to live northeast, holding on to category iv strength. gonna be devastating along i-95, there's no way to get around that with the red line, the track of the storm so close, with 130 mile he kind of chewing up the eastern seaboard here of florida, during the day on friday, and friday evening. from there, it does begin to parallel the georgia and south carolina coastline and then it is going to loop back around to the south and weaken but never make it north of north carolina, so there you go, that's the brand-new forecast track from the hurricane center. awful scenario set up for the east coast of florida. there's no real other way to spin this. the numbers go down from a 4 down to a 1. so it will weaken as it

coastline and then loop back around. it means new england dodges a bullet. there's no significant weather expected with matthew at anytime. temps at this time, 50s and 60s, boston at 58. worcester at 62. fitchburg at 67. high pressure is across maine, and it's set up to northeast winds. that's why we've got clouds on the cape as well as the south coast. farther west the air is dry back through portions of pennsylvania and new york, and will hold on to that dry weather. tonight, mostly clear, patchy fog. and again as we move down the road, we're thinking a northeast wind keeps the air somewhat moist with clouds. but i think they will break apart as we step through later on this evening and overnight tonight. temps tomorrow, mostly sunny and pleasant. coolest along the coastline. 66 to 72. so it's a nice day tomorrow. friday is another nice day with lots of sunshine, pleasant on friday. femps tomorrow and friday between 71 and 74. topsfield fair going on.

a powerful storm on the move. >> if you don't get out in time, you might actually get stuck. >> reporter: devastation and destruction left behind. the u.s. now bracing for impact. >> we want to you prepare for a direct hit. >> reporter: we're tracking hurricane matthew. >> up and down the atlantic seaboard, coastal residents are getting ready. >> many being urged to get out of the danger zone. matthew storming out of haiti. check out what the hurricane left behind there, water rushing into streets, debris piled high but the storm is changing course while florida and the carolinas could see the effects. new england no longer in matthew's sights right now. the new advisory is out. let get over to our chief meteorologist jeremy reiner. >> and ryan, matthew is moving through the bahamas, again, coming out of cuba last night, going through a little bit of restructuring right here. notice the warm colors indicating -- that's the tropical thunderstorm activitied exploding, and so there may be what we call eye wall replacement going on where the center of the storm actually

winds right now, this is is the 5:00 update, no change from the mid afternoon update, 120 miles per hour, moving northwest at 12 miles per hour. category 3 storm, and we'll maintain that intensity overnight tonight through tomorrow morning moving through the bahamas, right over nassau most likely during the day tomorrow, and approach florida late tomorrow night, around midnight tomorrow night through friday morning. and it does intensify. and this is not a good scenario for the east coast of florida. basically miami up through so corridor, all the cities and towns gonna be under the gun for several hours on friday with incredible wind. winds around 130, 125 miles per hour, just offshore, as well as very heavy rain. and then it does begin to curve northeast, head toward the south carolina coastline and then loops back south. you see this looping back south, so it never gets north of north carolina. new england is out of the threat and likely will stay out of the threat for the duration of the storm. we'll talk more about your forecast in a few minutes. right now we're talking about the devastation in southern haiti.
