threatening millions that live in the south and along the coast. people in south carolina and florida forced out of their homes, told to evacuate if they can. turning all lanes of traffic to head away from the danger zone. jeremy tracking matthew. jr. >> here he is right here. matthew moving northwest at 10 miles per hour, winds hold at 115 miles per hour and we have the hurricane for the bahamas and then after that it's the united states, miami, daytona beach, and jacksonville. here you go, category 3 storm holds the intensity overnight. as it approaches the east coast of florida late in the day and then tomorrow night and friday morning near daytona beach early

near 130 miles per hour. devastating winds, rain, and coastal concerns for the state of florida late tomorrow night and through the day on friday. then it parallels the georgia and south carolina coast line and then looping back out to sea. this is the wind speed forecast from the european model indicating winds likely to approach 100 miles per hour as the eye of the storm nears the florida coast line. west palm beach may have winds near tomorrow night and early friday morning. we'll talk more about florida as well as your forecast in a few minutes. >> caribbean nations dealing with the damage. this hurricane has ravished nations like haiti. this hurricane also leaving behind an eerie image, have you seen this? the shape of the storm. what does it look like to you? some people think it looks like a skull in satellite imagery.

caribbean. brandon has more on the devastation and preparation. >>reporter: kim, nowhere has taken a direct hit from matthew like haiti. 25 or more people have died. some say it's the worst thing that's hit haiti since the earthquake six years ago. families fight to cross a raging river, this woman almost swept away by the water after a key bridge collapsed in southern haiti. this bridge is a life line for south west ones off from each other as well as food and supplies they desperately need. >>man: we're concerned people are dying because they can't get to us. >>reporter: hurricane matthew now has his sights set on the southern east coast of the u.s. >>woman: it's a little scary. >>reporter: inland, it's a race to hunker down. this family leaving central florida. >>man: our concern isn't so

try to get him out from underneath the car. >>man: he goes to me are you okay, daddy? i'm like i'm fine, are you okay? >>reporter: dad, relieved he was able to free his son but says crashes are all too common on this stretch of north shore road. he claims three happened in recent weeks. unable to stay in their apartment, they packed up and he said his dad is the hero to make sure he could walk away unharmed. >>man: i know he's always there for me and i know that the second he heard like one rumble against the wall, he barged in before anything collapsed and pulled me out. >>reporter: and the driver of the car was taken away from the scene for medical treatment. at this time, they have not filed any charges. also from the night team --

now. on the ground. >> a wild wreck after an overnight police chase in new hampshire. an officer not far behind after a driver topped speeds of 80 miles an hour. that came to a crashing conclusion. alex is on the side of the road live from new hampshire tonight. >>reporter: kim, it was like something out of a movie here in new hampshire. tonight, that driver is out of the hospital and high speeds and high drama on the streets of new hampshire as police say justin soem flips a car in a desperate and unsuccessful effort to outrun an officer. >>man: get on the ground right now. on the ground. on the ground. >>reporter: how come you ran? why did you run? >>man: i can't speak right now. sorry. >>reporter: the 22-year-old not answering questions afterbeing

after several students were diagnosed with the mrsa infection. >>reporter: ryan, there was an admin day scheduled for tomorrow so they're going to bring in a cleaning crew to clean up the school. everyone is on the same page at this school, they want it gone, fast. west ford academy students learning some of their with mrsa and staph infections being told to watch out for cuts. >>man: get medical attention and stuff like that. just the basics. >>reporter: a parent called wednesday confirming their child has mrsa. a total of four students have been affected so far. a note was sent out to the parents today about the contagious bacteria. >>woman: it definitely concerns

a retired marine sergeant gets a new beginning after losing all four of his limbs while serving overseas. doctors performed a double arm this american hero could not be more excited. >>man: i would never think six years ago that i would be here in front of everyone and up here on the podium talking about this. >>reporter: former marine sergeant john peck can hardly believe how things have changed since his first encounter with an explosive device nine years ago. he recovered from that and then

ied and that explosion ultimately cost him all four of his limbs. now, he's got two of them back. in august, a team of 12 surgeons were able to transplant two arms successfully. the rare 14 hour operation has only been done three times before. the bilateral transplant has given john a new life. sensations can take months to reestablish and learning to make use of the limbs will take time. >>man: every day that i look down at my new drive on through the pain and i will never give up. >>reporter: he's newly engaged. three weeks ago, john proposed to his girlfriend jennifer in boston. >>woman: he's always positive and makes everything easy. >>reporter: john says he enjoys learning the new sensations like holding jessica's hand. >>man: now i can feel deep

trouble kind of hard, maybe. >>reporter: john hopes to now be able to pursue his dream of becoming a chef. so we are tracking hurricane matthew. it is a monster storm and obviously we're very concerned about the people in our country and the whole coast is threatened. you really don't know exactly where it might hit. >> jr has been tracking it all night. what's going on right now? >> well, ryan, here he is right here. he's moving northwest through the hurricane. winds at 115 miles per hour. as it approaches the florida coast line tomorrow night, likely to intensify to a category 4 storm at 130 miles per hour. that's the problem that had will essentially ride along interstate 95 and as it's doing, churning and grinding on the east coast of florida with likely to have widespread devastation if this track verifies.

as well as portions of georgia and south carolina although i get something here, it's not as intense but we're talking category 2 storm and then it does loop back. we have a lot of confidence that it's not going to bother us in southern new england. that's the good news there. high pressure is with us and not going anywhere any time soon. mostly clear sky. the city at 54, there are cool pockets of air developing under the cool sky. out on the cape and afternoon. even right now, skies clearing out slowly overnight with a wide range in temps. upper 30s to 50s in boston. after the early morning chill, it's a nice one. 66-72. the city around 67 and further to the ocean, upper 60s. friday, another nice day,

here comes a cool front from the great lakes states. there's going to be a couple of rain showers tied with this cool front that sweep through new england saturday morning. some of this moisture coming out of matthew. some of his moisture does get drawn north along the cool front even though he stays where he is and then the front shoves the moisture off shore and then we talk about clearing skies on towns less than a tenth of an inch of rain. red sox back home for game three on sunday afternoon will feature mostly sunny skies, breezy, playoff weather.
