tropical depression. not a repeat of what we are dealing with. there is the eye wall off shore. critical and the eye never made landfall. the wind stayed off shore. jacksonville and saint augustine getting out of the brunt of the rain and the wind. concern will be the storm surge because the storm has been childrening east of florida all day, shoving water ahead of itself water will get piled up leading to a storm surge possible between 6 feet and 9 feet. waves come crashing right in, rising almost to the top of that glass. flooding has been a information concern, leaving homes, businesses and streets under water. alex is live with the impact of the storm. >> officials have urged people

we continue to track hurricane matthew. taking a live look at myrtle beach, south carolina where srabg/ s are in order. the governor there telling everyone to get out because the storm is approaching. >> we have been following this all day. the storm has been downgraded. >> w once were, moving from a category 3 to category 2 storm. think of it as the stove making your dinner, when you suddenly turn the stove off, there is heat there. even though the storm as gone from a cat 3 to a cat 2. a lot of energy, wind, rain, not much stpaebgt/ ed guy georgia and south carolina. you are not g going to notice the difference.

storm surge, 6-93 feet on the georgia coastline as well as south carolina up to charleston. north of there, 4 to 6 foot storm surge. you have heard that all day. what is it? well, you have the hurricane over the ocean, there is land back there, as the storm is barreling towards the coastlin coastline, it's generating a lot of wind, the wind is helping to actually lift the level of the sea as it have almost like this wall of water that heads toward the coast and the wind, generating the wave. that's the surge in the water. the concern is that georgia and south carolina, the shape of the coastline, the water is piled in there. you can see the shape of the coastline. similar to what we had with hurricane bob. that's
